Bob came out and in order to survey our deck and make an estimate. We felt the estimate was expensive, but because we were having trouble finding someone to do the job, we hired Power Wash It Clean. The work done on our deck was terrible. After the deck was sanded, the wood dust was not brushed clean. Instead, the stain was applied over the dust. Additionally, there were large blotchy and uneven patches of stain all over the deck. Bob assured us this was just the "first coat" and he would be back in a few days to apply the "final coat." Needless to say, he never returned and we were left with a splotchy deck we were way over charged for. On a side note, lunch was eaten by Bob or someone on his crew in our front yard. Chicken bones were carelessly thrown on our lawn. This was a nightmare because we have a dog (who attempted to eat them and choked on them), and a toddler (same story as the dog). Bottom line: DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY!

This is the sad story of how to do decks completely wrong. Power Wash It Clean is the definition of a nightmare contractor! Bob first showed up looked around and gave me an estimate on the high end. I tried looking for other deck finishing companies but there were no others listed in the area. So we checked out Bob's references but neglected the important step of going to see the actual decks. Since we wanted the work done swiftly we hired Bob and that's when the nightmare began. Don't get me wrong though Bob is nice enough he just has no idea how to stain decks. He doesn't own a single drop cloth! I asked Bob if the cleaning solution he used would harm the grass. He assured me his special formula was totally non-toxic. I was paying attention to another job at the house and had to leave when Bob and his helper showed up to start work. The first day should have been the day I fired them because Bob's 'special formula' turned out to be Clorox and water which of course killed all the grass around the decks. The second day his helper trimmed out everything like he was painting a wall a total no no when staining. Anyway I jumped in at this point to try and save the job. That's when Bob started spraying not with the grain of the wood down the length of the boards but across them. The resulting pattern was horrible but he claimed his second coat would fix it. The third day I went to the store and picked up some deck staining pads and told Bob only to spray the railings and use the staining pads on the decks. After showing them how to use the pads to fix the awful looking decks the end product became barely acceptable. I still have to touch up a lot of places to even out the finish but it looks like solid paint was used instead of semi-transparent stain. It's also going to take many days for the decks to dry completely if ever!
Description of Work: We had them clean and stain our wood decks. First they used Clorox to clean without laying down ground cloths which of course killed the grass around the decks. Second the stain we provided was a semi-transparent water based product which they applied as paint globbing it on. Third Bob has no clue of how to use a sprayer he's like a bull in a china shop. Again no ground cloths so the grass that survived the Clorox is now stained the color of the decks. The result of this disaster is a blochy looking finish that after three days is still tacky. The work isn't even worth the cost of the paint and is a complete loss. I blame this all on myself of course for having such poor judgement in choosing this company. Don't even consider using this company for anything! The owner of this operation is Bob Albrect.
