Cracker Mill Hearth and Emporium

I called Cracker Mill on Sept 8, as I belatedly realized I had an opportunity to upgrade the attic chimney for my wood stove while my roof was being replaced. My existing chimney was OK, but it was old and did not conform to current specifications for maintaining integrity during a chimney fire. Cracker Mill came out on Sept 9 to review the job and provide an estimate. I agreed to the price, and they were able to schedule me for the following day. The crew showed up on Sept 10 on time and with all their materials and tools. They coordinated well with the roofing contractor, and quickly installed the replacement High Temp chimney in my attic and on the roof. The replacement insulation baffle insured that the installation was safe and conformed to required distance from combustible materials. There was a minor problem, because the old interface plate that masked the opening at the ceiling was round, and the new one was square, which revealed an unsightly circle of unstained wood at the ceiling. The installer went back to his shop and got an additional large round interface plate that masked the unstained wood. Installing that plate was difficult, but it came out looking great. I was really impressed with the extra care they took to make sure the replacement chimney installation looked good, as well as improving the overall safety of the installation. Also, the speed with which they were able to complete the job was particularly important, as the roofers closed up the roof and installed the flashing as soon as the chimney was installed. This was followed by several days of rain, and there were no leaks! Great work!
