LI Prestige came to give an estimate for repair of a leaky skylight. The owner and his son came by, and he went up on the roof to see what needed to be done. He returned with two options - either to tar the exterior of the skylight for $250 or to replace shingles for $900. Since I am selling this house, I decided to try the cheaper option. The owner ( I don't remember his name) was able to do the work then and there. He completed the job in the rain in 15 minutes, I paid him and he left. The rain continued heavily throughout the night, and of course there was a huge puddle in the morning. This is not my issue - I understood that tarring would not be a definite solution. My issue is that when I called to let him know, I was told that he would not apply any of the $250 to the $900 shingle replacement. To me, this is bad business. He told me the bucket of tar was $65, (he didn't use the whole thing), so I could understand paying for that, but a good business person would have happily applied at least $200 towards the larger job. When I spoke to the son, he seemed offended that I would even ask for that courtesy, even when I pointed out that the job took 15 minutes. I wouldn't do business with such a short-sighted company.
