Technician arrived timely and was pleasant. Inspection report included very little detail. Technician's description of included service not upheld by company. Had to call multiple times to finally get a follow up appointment, taking time off work, only to be told that there was a misunderstanding (that could have been resolved by phone) and that no work could be done that day if I chose to hire their services in any event. Very disappointing and a waste of work vacation time that could easily have been avoided!

The company was awesome! When my hot water heater needed to be replaced, the plumber informed me that I first had to instal a chimney liner. I called several companies, and Northeastern made the first appointment for an estimate. The estimate was within the range I expected after researching the product and process online, and the representatives were very helpful and courteous. Within a few hours, I had a date for installation within that week and financing arranged. Jon and Chris came out for the installation, and they were courteous, efficient, and pleasant. The company made the whole process as painless as possible and allowed me to restore hot water as quickly as possible. thank you!

I met with a representative at my home with concerns in three specific areas that needed re-pointing. I had prioritized the work, in case it could not be completed in one visit. I had the brick on-site; and, only needed a professional installer who would use the appropriate mortar for our historic preservation designation, (in the front). I waited MONTHS for the bid(s); often, calling every other week for an up-date. We had remarkable weather; which only made the wait more painful, as it was perfect for cement! Finally, I asked Angie's list for assistance in the return of my funds. The complete lack of communication or the expected aspect of "follow-through" was disappointing. Regretfully, I can not recommend business with this organization.

They are excellent. They show up when they say they will. They are polite. They are clean and they clean up after. So they do not track soot into your house, they put down protective coverings. They are very careful and conscientious. One time, they were going to be late because something came up, they called me ahead of time. Things happen and there is nothing you can do, but they called so that is all you can do.
Description of Work: I use Northeastern Masonry & Chimney. I had my wood stove chimney cleaned every year. They clean the chimney. They remove any creosote that is on top of the roof. If there is a gunk up there, they clean it. They guarantee their work. They take pictures so you can see all the way up as it is cleaned. They show you what they do.

The fellows that came to do the work were pleasant and performed the cleaning as expected. However, I also needed repair as the ignition unit stopped working after 19 years. The men identified the needed part and called their office but reported back that it was an old part that they probably could not obtain. They said the manager would check and get back to me. They also said he suggested getting a new fireplace which would cost about $6000 or that there may be a showroom floor model I could get for about $3000+. I looked up the needed part on line and found it was readily available from numerous suppliers. I called the manager back and informed him. He said he would check it out and get back to me. He never did. I called him again several weeks later and he said his supplier didn't have the part. When I said it was readily available he said he would not consider getting it elsewhere because if anything was wrong with it he'd be stuck for the money. He then said he would re-check with supplier and get back to me. Again, he never did. Ultimately I obtained the part myself ($85) and had someone else install it ($200). I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY!!!!!!

It went well. We had to contact them to get scheduled even though the advertisement through Angie's list said they would get back to us by Thursday after we purchased the service. Then Angie's list contacted them. They got back to us by Friday. We were hoping the person would show up closer to 8 am since we needed to leave at 9:30. We had asked this 2 times to the person making the appointment and she made it sound as though the person would be there at 8am, but he did not get to us until a little before 9 am. We managed to get the entire appointment in, but we were rushed and ran late. We may use them in the future. We are still reviewing for other prices. They want $2,000+ to replace 14 layers of brick on our chimney. We ended up using them for the chimney repair. Frank came out and did the repair. The chimney work is beautiful. He repaired the bricks and replaced the inside flu at the top. He is very knowledgeable and very good at what he does. I would recommend working with Frank for sure. We are thinking of looking at an insert and working with Frank.

Not very flexible with regard to scheduling. I understand that this may be a busy time of year but when I asked for early morning or late afternoon they said, "Someone will be at your house between 10am and noon on X day". The alternative was to wait over a month for the service. Two gentlemen came to perform the service. They were both very nice and punctual. I felt like one of them was doing everything he could to sell me something new instead of trying to talk to me about prolonging the life of the fireplace I have. Without even looking at the model, I was told it would be unlikely if at all possible to get replacement parts for the fireplace and instead we should buy a completely new one (from them). When I told him the fireplace had a manufacturer clearly listed on the corner of the unit and their parts are readily available online, the response was, "well we would install a better fireplace. It would look more real. This doesn't look at all real." At the end of the day the guys did a great job at the job they came to do. I just think the price was a little high for the work performed and didn't appreciate being inundated with the sales pitch for a bright, shiny, and new unit during the whole visit. But would not deter me from recommending them or using them again.

Northeastern couldn't "certify" that chimneys were safe to use although we had used them several years in a row without any problems noted for either chimney- said camp chimney too coated with creosote and little option but to "rip out the liner" - couldn't run brush up chimney. Was supposed to show up during 9-1 window but didn't show until 5 p.m. - house chimney had issue with "spauling" and mortar joints that would have to be fixed before we could install gas logs. Nice enough guys. Went to Matchless, don't have to do anything to house chimney for gas logs, gave us bottles of creosote build-up to use on chimney before they come to clean.

Incredibly dissatisfied. Bought a package off of Angie's list for a cleaning and video inspection (199$). Prior to purchase I called and spoke to James, who I presume was the manager, told him my set up of a wood stove and chimney and how the exhaust was angled to the chimney. He advised me of which package to purchase and I scheduled an appointment. Day of appointment comes and I have to take a half day off from work because they schedule 2-4 hour blocks like a cable company. Person shows up and drags a shop vac through my house leaving soot and dirt on floors and carpets. Shop vac'd the equivalent of 1 log out of my wood stove and that was the entire cleaning process. Went up to my roof, came down, told me a video inspection wasnt possible and that he thinks it would cost me 2,000$ to fix my chimney but cant see all the way down. If you tell me I need to pay you 2,000$ to fix something, I would expect you to be pretty confident of what needs to be done. I called to speak with James and the woman who schedules appointments to tell them that the service they advised me of purchasing was not possible even though they were well aware of my set up in advance. They told me they would rectify the situation, have someone new come out the following day and complete the inspection. I was told id get a write up, someone would follow up for advisement on what possible issues were and that i would be provided pictures of the problems. The next day I got home from work to a vague estimate which was now 3,200$. I called and asked who i could speak with and when I could see the pictures and I was advised that I would be followed up with the next business day. Two business days later I had heard nothing and received no phone calls. I left a voice message asking to speak with someone to go over the issues and see what was necessary and what could be put off and when I would be able to see the images to assess how drastic any damage was. It is now three business days after that voicemail (a full week now) and I have heard nothing back from them. In my mind I have paid 200$ to have someone vacuum a log out of my wood stove and then leave me with a mess that took an hour to clean up from my floors and carpets. have been provided nothing else of benefit or use. I would highly suggest to not purchase anything from this vendor as they are unprofessional and uncommunicative.
Description of Work: Shop vac'd a handful of ash out of my wood stove then told me there was nothing else they could do, sent someone else the next day to finish job who left a note in my mailbox and never followed up with rest of service, job was never completed.

I just purchased a home with a chimney/fireplace. The pre-purchase home inspection stated the work should be minimal for the fireplace to operate. I purchased a deal from Angie's List to confirm that inspection report; obviously home inspectors are not fireplace experts. Joe, from Northeastern Chimney, came promptly, ready to work, and was extremely knowledgeable. It turned out the chimney needed more work than I thought it would. Joe had software with a camera up the chimney to show me the wear and tear that not having the proper topper had caused due to rain. Although I was disappointed to learn the chimney repair was going to be $2500, it was great to deal with Joe. Because I just purchased the home, fixing the chimney is something I will not do this winter, but when I do decide to get the chimney operable, I will be sure to call Northeastern from the professional experience. I have dealt with various companies since purchasing the home for a few things, and this was probably the best experience despite the disappointing news. He did not charge me anything the day of service. The only money I spent was on the Angie's List offer. Highly recommend if you have any chimney needs. A+

That is ridiculous because I had 2 other guys come and the other guys said only $2000. One guy said $7000, the other said $2000 and the other guy was about $2200. He wanted to do stuff that didn't need to be done. He went down in my basement and said, oh, all this stuff needs to be changed. I had other people down there and they said, my chimney, the air going out was really good. That guy wanted to scam me and he was from Northeastern Chimney so I would never go to them. I don't trust them now. I could tell he was lying to me because he said, oh you need your chimney done right away, it is going to fall down. It needs repairs but I didn't need it done right away. He wanted to come into the house and look inside. I just wanted it fixed from the roof up, that's it, I don't want anything else done. He came down and said, oh down in your basement everything needs to be rerouted and redone, no, it did not. It was outrageous, the price. They came pretty quickly. I don't think that guy was professional. He was shady and pushy.

Response from Northeastern Masonry & Chimney
While we at Northeastern Chimney take all our customers concerns to heart, I am at a loss by this review. Our records show we were scheduled to do an estimate back on 09/09 but never completed it. According to the Angie's list section of job completion date, it shows completion back in 2007. Our techs are CSIA certified chimney professionals who have a long history of working for our company and our quoting system is based on the standards listed by CSIA. (chimney safety institute of America) I am sorry that your experience for chimney work has left you dishearten, and I would request that you contact our office to review your situation.

I have rarely been moved to post reviews, because I have rarely received as excellent service as I did from Jon and Allen with Northeastern Chimney. I cannot rate them highly enough. Joe Schear (who may be the owner - certainly someone in management) came to give an estimate to restore an old insert fireplace into a proper wood-burning one. We knew from other estimates that it was an expensive and difficult job. In fact at least one other company said they could not do the job. Joe was confident the Northeastern team could do it. He outlined all of the steps needed to take place. He gave a fair estimate (which he 100% stuck to) and he walked me through the entire process. On the day of the service, I was told they would arrive between 8 and 8:30 AM. By 8:15 Am they were at work. The techs saw the difficulty of the job and brought in a supervisor to confirm their steps. They worked to get a badly installed cemented liner out of the flue. All along the way they were friendly, explained the work, etc. But most of all - they were clean. It was an extraordinary mess getting the liner out - the chunks of concrete that were flying were dirty - but they had a vacuum going so that the dust wouldnt get on any of the living room surfaces that they hadn't already covered. Clearly their mothers taught them well with clean up as you go along! The entire process took a day. They flashsealed and waterproofed the chimney as well as capped unused flues so water and animals would not get in. AND even though Joe said they would not be the cheapest, they actually were right in line with the other estimates, and were far more comprehensive. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for a professional, responsible and fairly priced project. And apparently I am not alone - when I told some people at work who was doing the job, they all said "Northeastern - they're good people"
