He showed up on time and went up into the attic, checked the system. Turned our system on and hooked up the hoses to fill with Freon but as the system began to cool he said none was needed even though initially he thought it might. He recommended an appropriate air filter (as I asked him too) and said he just received training on the Hepa filtration systems should we want one (because I asked about that too and I have pets). The price was as advertised and he sad my system was working fine and looked actually pretty good.

They came and were honest with me. They said they couldn't look inside the unit to do a full check because it was so old, it was from 1950. He couldn't remove the cover and the bolts would have had to be cut off. He did notice water from underneath the unit and said it was probably from the pvc drainpipe. He thought it needed to be flushed, but wasn't able to do that either since the cover wouldn't come off. He looked at where the pipe drained and found out that it drained to the gutters that were backed up. He flushed the pvc pipe the best he could from the oustside. After he left, I cleaned the gutters and haven't had a problem since. They're very honest and really know their stuff.

The girl on the phone though very nice told me it would be a week before they could get there. Are you kidding me? Get more help.

The experience was excellent. It is family owned and they have been in business for many years. They do plumbing, air conditioning and they service furnaces. They are reliable and they come on time.

I contacted them in early Spring to get an estimate. They were very prompt in returning my call and quickly scheduling an appointment to estimate the job which fit into my schedule. The sales person was knowledgable, and actually came up with a creative way to access the attic in such a way that allowed them to remove the old air handler. We increased the size of the return, air handler, compressor, as well as added two more drops. The installation team showed up exactly on time, they were very neat, using drop cloths from the entry way and everywhere they were working. The work was done timely, it was neat, and they took away all of the old equipment. They actually pointed out 2 areas on the wall in the upstairs hall which got very slightly marked up and requested a follow up appointment in which they would touch it up (paint and spackle) at their expense. It was so minor I told them not to worry and I did it myself, took about 5 minutes.

Every employee I dealt with was very courteous and professional. When I initially called I was going to just have the a/c & gas burner inspection and preventative maintenance. I decided to ask what a annual contract would cost; after weighing the cost of the preventative maintenance for both items, and the fact that they were included in the service contract I called back and ordered the service contract. There was no pressure from the representative what so ever. She quickly changed my appointment to a covered call, the tech arrived on time, checked my Heat and AC, added some freon and was on his way. Knowing that both my heat and ac are now covered gives me peace of mind. Thankfully I haven't had to use them to fix either unit but will repost if necessary. Based on my experience so far I would definitely recommend them.

From the jump, these guys were up front. We received an estimate from Tim who did not try to hard sell us on anything and was as friendly and knowledgeable as could be. Turns out Tim is one of their head tech guys and we were grateful that he made himself available to us throughout the whole process. Installation day had some hic-ups (one member of the crew hurt his back, and the battery died on one of the crew's trucks) but the crew were unwavering and were very knowledgeable and courteous. They displayed great professionalism and a willingness to work with us. Everything works like a charm and we are very satisfied. The guys and gals at Universe helped us save a few bucks too by Tim providing us with a coupon for $200 off and also helping us to receive a $880 gift card from National Grid for making the conversion. They also told us about a rebate program with NY that we have applied for. Overall we are very happy with the conversion. As in any big job, you should be their to let the crew know about any specifics you have in mind and you'll find these guys are willing to work with you. The technicians were on time and very professional. The care they demonstrated when removing the old equipment was much appreciated. Excellent price and value, I highly recommend this company. I am also hiring them to install mini-split ductless air conditioning in my home.

I broke the top of my stove when something dropped on it, crushing parts of the glass and also cracking the glass across one of the burners. DO NOT BUY THE PART YOURSELF (as I did), thinking you can "get someone to install it." No one would do that. So, I ended up returning the part, reordering the part (well, Universal Appliances did that for me), and then having them install the part. From the first phone call on March 26th, the customer service was excellent. I felt like I was treated like family on the phone. No, really. Laura was great. The service guy (who ordered the part) who called me about the part, he was really great. The follow-up phone call people... they were all friendly and just really on the ball. I was impressed BEFORE the service tech came out. The technician, Tom, had been on the job with this company for 3 weeks. But what a joy!! He was very professional, friendly to my inquisitive toddler, and worked quietly (with an ocassional, cheerful "okay!" every now and then). He was a pleasure, and I hardly even knew he was in my kitchen (I was working on the computer in the room next door). Laura (the intake lady whom I described above) you were NOT kidding, when you told me "You will be very happy with their work." Understatement. I could not be happier... unless maybe I had another whole brand new stove put in. I mean, he was very clean and orderly. After Tom left, aside from the receipt, you would NOT KNOW that he was in my kitchen. There was no mess left. (Okay, I had to dispose of the box that contained my cracked glass - big deal.) I am truly very very pleased! I thought that the price was FAIR. Look, installing glasstop on stove - that contained wires and what nots... I am not an electrician. Sure, that labor won't be cheap. But, since I know what the part cost (since I bought it, then returned it), I think that an extra $125 (or so) in labor was fair. Was it pricey? Maybe. But I think it was worth it. The level of courtesy, ability and professionalism, well, I think the cost was WELL WORTH what I paid. I highly recommend this company. **My price was the FINAL PRICE (including the website coupon). I have a colleague who lives in R-ville Cntr and he had kitchen (oven) work done with this company. Two diff times. No complaints. So I trusted him. And the Angie's List reviewers too. Thanks!!

It went well. Chimney liner installed on 3/7, burner exchanged within 8 hours. And heat restored all was removed bt 4 PM, incl. Oil tank.

Salesman come for an estimate and was very polite. Their price was SLIGHTLY higher than competitors but I chose Universe Appliance because of the positive reviews on Angies list. Crew was immaculate on doing the oil to gas conversion. Ive heard some messy stories from other companies. These guys were spotless, polite and shop vac'ed the entire boiler room after job was complete. A few days later, I noticed a VERY small and slow drip coming from the pipe above. I called them back and they were there the same day to repair it. Was very happy with the job and would recommend to all.

Overall these guys do a great job but they come at a high price. My family in general uses them for repairs and service. I just wish their prices were more competitive.

The experience with Universe couldn't have gone better. Very pleased.

Repairman was honest and told me it would cost more to repair than replace, even though washer was only 5-6 years old, as the transmission had worn out.

Installation was delayed, approximately, three months purportedly due to prioritizing secondary to Hurricane Sandy's impact on communities. Arrival was prompt on scheduled day. Technicians worked efficiently. Issues noted with the equipment [ Burner], which was brand new. After, a 'master' technician arrived, equipment produced heat. Although an Automatic Feeder (water) was requested on initial order with salesman, one was not delivered with equipment, and was installed 1 day later, Heating Unit performed errratic, resulting with gross leakage of water from one of pipes installed on day of installation, causing flooding of basement on third day, post Unit installation. Plan is to have a technician address the issue of ensuring pipe connections are secured on 01/30. To date Automatic feeder is inconsistent in performance, exhibiting frequently "LOC", triggering the Burner to shut off, unless homeowner manually feeds the water into system, almost daily.

Everything went fine. The two Universe installers did a great job and cleaned up everything afterwards. This is a great company.

HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! HORRIBLE! First off, I joined angies list because i had many bad experiences with companies. Until now, since joining angies list, i had nothing but great companies perform services in my home. I would definitely not recommend this company. I had them come to my house because my washer machine was leaving the clothes very wet after its cycle. I first thought it might have been the dryer and called them a month earlier to look at that. They changed the coil on the dryer(over $200) when they didnt even look to make sure the coil was bad they just assumed! i then called them back up to tell them my washer machine might be the problem because it leaves the clothes very wet and causes me to run the dryer for over a hour each load. The repair guy was nice don't get me wrong but they removed the dial cap off the drain pump to see if there was any lint or coins it turned out there was only a few coins. He diidn't even check to make sure the hoses weren't clogged. He said it "might" be the drain pump and was going to cost $350 to changed it. The part only cost $150 and took a half hour at most to replace it. It didn't help it at all. I would have had to pay $350 and pay more for them keep checking and replacing parts until its fixed. By then i could buy a brand new machine. I was received a 30 day warranty for the $95 service charge fee. When i called them up to have them come back i told them you would have charged me $350 to replace a half hour labor job on a pump that was $150. I told them its not right that t i have to spend that kind of money and it not solving the problem and then i would have to keep paying money on "might" be solutions. Belts weren't checked, hoses weren't checked. After they left i started to inspect the machine myself and replacing the drain pump was the very first time i even worked on an appliance and was super easy. I, not them, found the hose to be caked up with g***. I was so fed up i told them i no longer want them to come.How do you charge someone $95 to come look at the machine and thoroughly not look at it and assume it might be this or that.. Its not right. When i went to buy the drain pump at an appliance store they said charging $350 to change a drain pump is ridiculous. They couldn't believe they wanted that much. I WOULD DEFINITELY NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY! The company gave back the $98.00 but the bottom line is they probably wanted the review to say that the problem was resolved. The problem was not. It still cost a $150.00 for the drain pump that they also said could be the problem my son went to the appliance store and changed the pump. The problem still existed. I still wouldn't recommend them. They were so annoying after the review that they called 5 to 6 times. I have a phone log to prove it.

I called them because my boiler wasn't turning on. This was a Saturday and first they gave me Tuesday appointment because they were all booked, but in a few hours they were kind enough to call me back that they could still fit me in the same day, which was very nice. The technician came and determined that both zone valves burnt out. He quoted me $800 and I didn't have a choice but to accept because we were freezing. Bottom line is, my overall experience was good with them, but they are way too expensive. Probably what makes sense is to have a service contract with them.

The worker spent the entire time at my house on the phone with his company's office to figure out what to do. They said the repair would be over $400 so I declined the work. They charged me $100 and left.
