Universe Appliance Repairs

On 2/3/18 a technician spent 15 minutes installing a simple valve on the end of a pipe. It is a very simple job. Universe charged me $375 for this. They fooled me. I thought the repair cost was so high because of the part cost. Later, I found out that the valve replaced costs NO MORE THAN $20. I called Universe to complain and they refused to refund any part of their blatant theft. In the end, the repair done did not work. The heater still leaks. They told me I should pay them an additional $500 for a pressure expansion tank. That part costs no more than $35! Beware of these thieves.

They were good. The only thing is, and he was probably right is he was trying to convince me to get a new hot water heater, because mine is twelve years old. His water heaters only have an six year warranty, and they were like $1600 to $1700. I told him to just fix it. It works, its fine. He said, they go and leak at anytime, and you will be left with major problems. That is probably true. I'm not arguing, but that is a lot of money. He was trying to get me to get an regular hot water heater. Once again, I probably need one, but it was an unexpected expensive. I didn't do that, and I had him to fix it. I quickly recalculate if it last a year to two years, I benefit. It gives me time at some point to go out and buy one. I can't imagine the price being much cheaper than that. It works fine. He knew what he was doing, and it works fine. They came the same day. I called when they were closed, and called them back the next morning, and they were here the same day. I can't complain. They gave me an range, and came at the later of the range. I would have liked to say come between three and five, and they said he will be here at sometime that day, and he came at that. It was sometimes between ten and five, and he came at three thirty. I had no hot water all day. It was no good. They were very professional. I have used them, they do all appliances. I used them for my stove. I saw the coupon, and they did water heaters, so I sad lets use them.

They do a good job. You call them and they come. They are very timely, reliable and do good work. Price is fair.

Punctual and professional

Universe told me that one of the parts-the capacitator(electric element)was not working. They said that they installed a temporary new capacitator to see if that resolved the problem and they said it did not ; therefore, they said that the compressor was bad and I needed a new compressor in addition to a new capacitator. They gave me an estimate of $2,384 for the compressor (no estimate was provided for the capacitator). Since I was under warranty for the compressor, I called the company that did the original install of the compressor to come out and take a look at the unit. This company installed a new capacitator (which was bad)- a part they say costs about $14- and the unit now works perfectly fine. There was absolutely NOTHING wrong with the compressor. Apparently, Universe's technicians are either incompetent -or even worse- they were trying to rip me off by telling me I needed an expensive unit when there was absolutely nothing wrong with the unit (compressor) that I have. How disgusting that they try and take advantage of people and/or employ unqualified technicians. I have never written a bad review before but this situation warrants it. Be aware that this company is either unqualified to service your needs or is trying to rip people off by telling them that they need expensive parts when such is not the case.

Jay came in and I told him what I did and what the problem was. He looked at the faucet and said he could try to fix it but it's age was working against him being successful. He had, in the wearhouse the model we wanted to replace it. He did the relacement; This whole job took 1-2 hours. I was expecting a half day to complete the work! He did a great job. Universe has been my "go to" organization when the have been a myriad of problems. I will continue to use them. They stand behind their work.

The only reason we don't use them now is they don't service the type of boiler we have. I would give them A's across the board. They were devastated by Sandy so to try to get them here was terrible. Not of their fault. But they need a disaster plan.
