Unique requirement--lifting of furnace (in heating season) as part of the project. Worked with my furnace man to do this. Old concrete was jack hammered out and dirt removed to make room for stones. Added stones, vapor barrier and rebar to connect it with rest of floor, then poured concrete. Had to remove basement window to fit trough into basement. Readymix was delivered and wheeled into basement room where it was used. Concrete was worked and smoothed and he left no bubbles or voids. Also did extra job of power-chipping out edge of existing basement floor (to seal out minor groundwater leakage during heavy thunderstorm) and sealing it with hydraulic cement. Excellent work ethic. Good knowledge of materials. Good attention to meeting and exceeding my customer requirements.
Description of Work: Remove and replace part of concrete basement floor

Fast and fabulous. Marc worked quickly and went beyond expectations. He is extremely reasonable in pricing for quality workmanship.

Marc had to cut and move the wooden stairs leading to the breezeway so he could get to the foundation blocks in the front and then move them back in place. The weather was horrendously hot during the two and a half days they were working. I was anxious about the breezeway for a long time because I knew it was deteriorating but I did not know what do to about it. I had several other contractors look at it before hiring Marc and their suggestions were very different and just did not make a lot of sense to me. I got Marc's name from an electrician who has done numerous jobs for me and was pretty confident in that recommendation. When Marc came out and looked at the job and outlined what he would do to repair it just sounded so reasonable. The breezeway turned out beautiful, essentially completely new and solid and intact. Marc and Nicholas were professional and efficient. The worksite was spotless when they were done and I couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Cement block of my breezeway floor was cracked, the block walls had deteriorated and shifted. The provider broke up the floor and removed it, the cement block foundation walls were rebuilt and the wooden wall enclosing the breezeway was reattached to the foundation. New base fill was brought in and the floor was re-poured with reinforcement bars. Other areas of cement block were repaired/repointed (whatever the technical terms are).

They did a nice job. Coordinated well with the other contractor. High quality results. I'm still very happy with this 4 years later. They removed the old floor and dug out so the plumbing contractor could get at and repair the broken drain pipes. When the plumbing job was finished they finished replacing the concrete floor. Good attention to detail - New floor is sloped slightly for drainage, and they put in a concrete step for the back door of the garage.
Description of Work: Tore out concrete garage floor, dug out old fill, put new fill under floor and resurfaced. Coordinated with a plumbing company that was replacing storm drain piping under the garage floor. (Leaks in the old piping had undermined the garage floor, which was cracked and sagging).

Initially I was given the names of three masonry companies. The first one wouldn't even give us an estimate of the job without a $100 fee. The second one told us we would have to tear out our entire livingroom floor (which we had just carpeted to the tune of $2,200) and even after saying that, was reluctant to take on the job. When Mark came (a very short time after I contacted him) he assessed the situation, gave us an estimate and let us make up our minds without any pressure. We hired him and we are so glad we did. I was very impressed with his work ethic. He arrived on time, called ahead to make arrangements for when he would be there, and made it as easy as possible for us. He thoroughly cleaned up after himself each time he worked on the project. He was precise and clear when describing what needed to be done and answered all of our questions clearly and cheerfully. It is hard to find people to do work these days who have integrity and take pride in what they do. Mark has these qualities. He did a super job and I cannot say enough about him as a dedicated worker and as a person. If you hire Mark Millet he will do the job right, and with efficiency and courtesy. He will treat your house as if it were his own and repair what is necessary in a professional manner. In my former job I sat on a Customer Service Committee which made recommendations for implementation of new initiatives in in a college setting. My background involves extensive research on customer service which includes reading reports, researching new methodologies, and making recommendations to college officials as a member of the committee. I can tell you without a doubt that Mark Millet is a true professional. I recommend him highly and without reservation, knowing that he is an exemplary worker and has the resources, knowledge and ability needed to complete any job he accepts. He knows his business inside and out and you can trust him. He also has the highest work ethic and customer service one could wish for. Outstanding on all counts!
Description of Work: Mark replaced a large section of an old rotted wooden support beam with a new steel one. This beam ran the entire length of the house. It was a big job. The house had to be jacked up several times (to minimize damage to walls, floors, etc.) in order to remove the rotted section (which ran half the length of the house) and replace it with a new steel beam. He fortified the other half of the beam with additional jacks and raised it as well to make it level. That section did not have to be replaced but just adjusted and fortified. The job involved going down into a very small crawlspace (so small he and his worker couldn't even stand up in it) to do the work. He cut out the damaged section of the old one, removed all the rotted materials, and put in the new one. The old crawlspace window also had to be replaced and the outside masonry around it repaired. The new one looks great! He then repaired any cracks in interior walls caused by shifting. He did the mudding/taping and sanded them smooth so those areas could be repainted. Before he left he asked me to inspect the work to make sure it met with my approval and if I was not satisfied to advise him of what still needed to be done. All work was excellent and all specifications of the job were met.

OUTSTANDING!!!! Marc's work exceeded the quality that I believe anyone would expect. Marc starts right so everything goes right afterwards. I have previously done foundations myself and I am familiar with the construction process and I know when corners should not be cut and when good enough is good enough. Marc's standard are considerably higher than mine He works smart and fast without any compromise in quality. This job started with very bad weather and delays but on the day when we could start he was here early to check and recheck plans. To start with, the excavation required less material removal than expected so dimensions needed to be adjusted resulting in fewer courses of block (for which he made price adjustments). A revision to the plan added two short walls that were not previously estimated - no problem!. Marc uses quality laser tools and set all the footer levels quickly. The concrete truck arrived and everything went just as one would expect. He adjusted the count for the delivery of the concrete blocks for the plan changes and all work proceeded. The foundation is level and square. He poured a mud slab for the interior of the crawl space and bull float finished it. All foundation depths exceeded any minimums and as a result the building inspector was impressed. The finished walls were poured solid and proper reinforcement was used everywhere it was needed or specified. All interior and unseen surfaces were struck level and brushed. The exterior parged surface and finish is worthy of the finest construction. Marc's work reflects care and pride without any sacrifice in quality. If you hire him you will not be disappointed! A last comment, Marc and Alan, his helper, are professional in every way. No radios blaring, the site is picked up and organized and he is prepared to work as soon as he arrives! Any family member or guest can walk onto the site and not be offended by comments, inappropriate language or behavior.
Description of Work: This is the third time I have used Marc millet for work on my home. He previously rebuilt a chimney matching the old style construction and also did extensive repairs to a stucco exterior carefully matching the existing color and texture. This time Marc constructed a foundation for an addition to a barn/shop Marc estimated very promptly from the construction drawings and detailed the major components of the job. He coordinated with the excavation contractor and all the suppliers. He showed up on time every day and called when weather would not permit working. The footers were formed and poured by him and a single helper. They laid the block and all reinforcement steel. The plan called for tying into old construction and meeting existing floor levels. Marc completed the foundation, the bond beam, the parging and texturing and foundation coating exactly to the plan. At the end of the job the changes that happened were adjusted for in the bill with no surprises.
