Contacted Star Nursery to remove a medium sized white birch which was starting to hollow out. After a number of follow-up calls (2 or 3) Gil finally arrived a few weeks after my initial call. Had agreed on a price of $500 for tree removal and stump grinding, which I though was fair. Tree was removed quickly, and Gil came in for payment saying that he didn't have the stump grinder and would have to come back to do that. I did pay the agreed amount, assuming he would be back in a week or two to finish up the job. He didn't provide any receipt for his services, which I found strange. After he and his team left, I went out to inspect the area where the tree was, and was surprised with the amount of sawdust and small limbs that was left. I've had trees removed before by other companies and never had as much clean-up left. I figured he would do a better job cleaning up after the stump was ground, so it didn't concern me too much. It has been about 6 months, and Gil has not returned to finish up the job. I contacted him two months ago and he didn't give me any indication as to when (or if) he would finish the job. Since he has already been paid in full, I have no confidence that he will ever complete the work that he agreed to. *** Updating review - Gil showed up and took care of the stump over the weekend, a little more than 6 months after the start of the job.

The tree was enormous! it's trunk and branches extended from ground to roof, seriously damaging my front porch, siding, and roof. Gil Housel answered my call promptly, showed up early with his crew and equipment, and worked diligently and efficiently for most of the day. My neighbors were watching the whole time from their porches and told me how impressed they also were with the work. Every part of the tree was cleared away. When the insurance adjuster saw the damage and a picture of the tree on my house, he said it was a very reasonable price for the amount of the work that had been done. The only additional charge was for my additional request that they tarp over the hole in my roof. It required hoisting a worker onto the roof with the crane and nailing down the tarp. I would certainly call Gil again for any tree work I needed!

These folks left a flyer in the front door. Saw them a day-or-so later at a neighbor's house, so I went over and asked them to stop over to my house to give me an estimate. Described the desired work to them and they gave me an estimate that I felt was very reasonable (based on prices I had paid for tree removal/trimming in the past) and I hired them on the spot. This was on a Sunday morning, and they said they would probably do the work sometime during the following week. I was a little leery at first, as they had simply scribbled the instructions for the work to be done and the quoted price on a piece of scrap paper and didn't give me any sort of written quotation, confirmation, or a promise of the date. I became a little more leery when I didn't hear from them in the next two days (Monday and Tuesday) but when I arrived home from work in the afternoon of the third day (Wednesday) I found the job completely finished, exactly as I had desired, and the area around the trees completely cleaned-up and raked. A neighbor across-the-street even told me that she had observed them taking the time to clean-up some chips and debris that had been blown from their chipper/shredder a ways up-and-down the street. (Turns-out she asked them if they would be interested in a small job at her house, and they did ti that same day on the spot!). I couldn't have been happier with the quality of the work. I again, however, became a little leery, as they didn't leave an invoice, note, or any other indicator that they had even been there and I heard nothing from them over the next couple of days (my concern was the possibility of receiving an invoice that was different than the quoted price, since I had nothing in writing). On the following Saturday, they showed-up at the original neighbor's house to do the work there, so I went over to talk to them and ask if they would like me to pay them since they were there, again, wondering if because I had nothing in writing that there might some dispute over the price. Much to the contrary, the guy said he would behappy to be paid that soon and actually asked me what price he had quoted me! I told him what it was, he told me how to make-out the check, and I paid him. Also, I noted on that day at my neighbor's house (since I didn't see them the day they did the work at my house) that they seemed to have all of the necessary equipment, including a large, very high crane for limited-access work, and an adequately-sized crew. So, all totaled, they did three jobs in this one small section of my neighborhood with three satisfied customers.
Description of Work: Removed two trees (a large crab apple tree and a large hawthorne tree), including grinding-out the stumps, and trimmed two other trees (considerable amount of trimming of a moderate sized dogwood tree and a small maple tree), all for $700. Cleaned-up and raked areas when work completed.
