Description of Work: Scott did a variety of projects for my dad: replacing rotting flooring and door, replacing a kitchen faucet, installing shower grab bars, and repairing broken vinyl siding.

+ -1 moreAll of the painting was the excellent quality of work we have come to expect from Scott. He made great suggestions on paint type for location where changing from flat to semi-gloss made sense. Scott was very punctual for his work days and professional in his communications with us. We purchased the wall/trim paint-Scott had some ceiling white and used that/will add to the bill at the end of the process. In addition to the quality workmanship, what has been very helpful has been Scott's flexibility with timing. He understands we are trying to get the house ready to sell ASAP, so has been fitting the painting in around other commitments. In addition, when we had to vacate the house for several days to have floors refinished, Scott built that into his schedule as well.
Description of Work: Scott painted: Interior-2 entryways, kitchen, master bath, family room, hallway and 2 bedrooms in preparation for our home to be sold. He repaired/patched/sanded as needed, painted walls, trim and ceilings. Exterior-2 front doors and trim (which also needed repair prior to painting.)

+ 1 moreScott is very professional, we knew each morning when he would arrive, and what he hoped to accomplish. The kitchen floor replacement took most of a week, and Scott laid out his plan with us the Friday before so we knew what needed to be moved, when the tile needed to be available, etc. When Scott left each day, the work area was clean and neat -he worked to minimize the disruption to the rest of the house/household. A story that illustrates the type of man Scott is-I was leaving to pick my daughter up from the high school, and let Scott know in case he would be finished for the day before my return. Soon after I left, my daughter returned having gotten a ride with a friend. Scott let her know that I had just left to pick her up so she could get in touch with me to update me! Very professional, very thoughtful, great communicator...all contributing to the positive experience we have had working with Scott so far. A further measure of our trust and confidence in Scott: we were travelling as a family out of town when the tempered glass became available for the repair to our shower surround. We gave Scott permission to come and go at the house over that weekend we were away to complete his repair...when we returned, the work was done!
Description of Work: We are repairing/updating in our home to put it on the market. My husband found Scott Olsen using Angie's List (yay!). I can't say enough positive about the work Scott has done for us-from prompt responses to phone calls, on time arrival for making the estimates, and quick turnaround to send us his estimate. Scott did some minor repair work-repairing ceiling dry wall damaged by a leak, repairing grout and a broken tempered glass panel in our shower surround, repairing / replacing trim above a window on the exterior of our home. All carefully completed for a reasonable price. The major work Scott did for us (so far, we have also decided to have him do some interior painting) was to replace the vinyl floor in our kitchen with tile. This also required significant repair work (some of it structural) around the back door where water damage caused the underlayment to need to be replaced. Scott did a fabulous job-the floor is beautiful. I think the best way to describe his work is to say he treats every job like he is doing it in his own home-carefully, using his skills and experience. Scott pays attention to the details that make a difference- he does the RIGHT thing-even when it might not show explicitly in the final project (careful work ensuring good support where the underlayment was replaced) , doing a preliminary tile lay out (the tiles had wide color variations and Scott made sure about a couple of the "brighter" tiles' placement), and finally, suggesting a change to the trim under our cabinets that really sets off the new floor.

+ 0 moreAfter giving his estimate he told me to purchase the tile I wanted to use and then he did the job. He first removed the hardwood in that area and then proceeded to firm up the underlayment , he also went in my basement and. Braced the floor from underneath . He then spent a lot of time placing tiles in and out until he had the best layout and placed the tiles down. He came back a few days later to grout. The job was excellent and has held up very well. I am very pleased and glad I didn't try this myself.
Description of Work: Removed a 4x5 foot area of hardwood floor and replaced that area with ceramic tile. This area was at the entrance to my home.

+ 0 moreAfter our new home was closed, we found there was some discoloration on the 1st floor ceiling and found a pipe is seeping water in the 2nd floor bathroom. We worried that the discoloration was from a past water leak. I called Scott and he agreed to take a look on the same day. He checked the pipe and the ceiling and gave me an estimate. He then came back on Saturday to replace the leaky pipe joint. He also removed the warped shelf under the sink and replace it with some plywood. He checked the ceiling using moisture meter and found no water on the ceiling. He did a very nice job and he cleaned every spot in the bathroom and also in the garage where he cut the plywood. He also painted the ceiling with his paint but there was a noticeable color difference. I later found a matching paint and asked Scott to come over again and put a layer of primer and then the matching paint. Now the ceiling looks like new. Very hard to notice it was only partly painted. Scott provided very professional handyman service and his price is very reasonable. Thank you Scott!

+ 0 moreScott came over and fixed my garage door. It was a very, very easy fix. The sensors just had to be aligned. Scott was very nice about it and only charged me $15, which I appreciated. Then, I asked him to fix the sensor on my lamp post. He took some measurements, and said he could either come back today, or he could come back another day. I said I needed to get back to work and could he come back another day. He agreed. Several weeks later, I have not heard from him.

+ -1 moreScott started out great but then never returned to finish the job. He issued invoices step by step and we paid them but he never finished the job. Scott invested a lot of time and we think he may have gotten tired of working on the project. We have no idea. He just disappeared and never returned phone calls. He would only email despite several requests for him to call us to discuss the project. We were very happy with his work we only wanted to discuss when he'd return. He blatantly refused to return calls and told us he is too busy to answer the phone or return calls.I don't understand what happened, we were available for him at any time. In addition we had hired Scott off and on for three years earlier. Nice guy but be very careful hiring Scott, he may decide not to finish or return phone calls. Our interior of our house was left unfinished.

He was one guy who was able to install the bifold doors I wanted when some else said I couldn't use that type of door. I would use him again and refer him if you need work done.

On the other hand, his follow-up isn't great. It may be that he is juggling many projects and he just doesn't have time to get back to take care of minor details left undone or he just doesn't care to do so. I believe that he is no longer interested in small projects because he does not follow-up on promises to get back to me.

Description of Work: Scott, repaired a rotting door frame. Was able to custom make a transition of hardwood to tile flooring, repaired multiple cracked damaged drywall areas. He also installed a ceiling fan, hung lots of pictures and regrouted lots of tile in our bath. He built us a new staircase off our porch and patched some spauling areas of our foundation. He was always on time or called if he was to be late. He purchased all supplies, and was really a value.
