I spent a couple weeks negotiating with Joe Blass to replace the roof on my house before winter kicked in, and I had been getting quotes from other roofers as well. Joe and I finally agreed on a price, which was better than the other bids, and so I informed the other bidders that I was moving ahead with Superior and began tryign to schedule the commencement of work with Joe. After not hearing from him for a week, he called and informed me that my neighborhood "was windier than others in the area" (something that I am unaware of, but accepted his reason in order to continue the conversation) so he wanted to push the job to April. I responded that I was not happy about pushing the job back 4 or 5 months, but if there were weather-related reasons that it is better to put a new roof on in April rather than November/December, I would agree to wait in order to have the job done properly. Joe then told me that not only did he want to move the job to April, but the job would also cost more than the agreed upon price. I told him that I was unhappy with that, as I had selected Superior over other bidders based upon the price we agreed upon. He asked me what I wanted; I told him that I would like him to honor the price that we spent a couple weeks negotiating and agreeing upon. He then got very nasty, ordered me to "call one of the other bidders" and hung up on me mid-sentence. I was confused at the change in tone, as our conversations to that point had always been friendly, so I immediately tried to call him back but was told by a woman who answered the phone that he had just left the office. I tried calling several more times over the next 2-3 weeks, and send him two emails stating that I did not understand what had made him react so dramatically but that I wished to continue discussions about the job. He has not responded to any of my calls or emails. My roof remains in need of repair.
