Do not use him. We will have to do the work over, he dug a trench, waterproofed the foundation......not very well as it turned out. Very poor work, we learned a hard lesson with this guy. Do not believe the reviews that say it was an old partner that is causing bad reviews, unless his name was also John Gulnick. He also told us he has various personal problems. I believe he has personal problems al right but they are the scamming type. Date of service is approximate.

It did not go well. Mr. Gulnick came and did the foundation - no problem, installed the fence - no problem, the steps and concrete in front of the garage are already breaking apart, the resurfacing is totally peeled off, he never took out the two slaps of cement. He started to do the chimney but did not finish and I had to call someone else for that. I've called him back but he either would give one excuse after another why he couldn't make it. Because Mr. Gulnick claimed he needed the money to pay for supplies and to fix his truck to get to the job site, he asked if I could pay him in full. Since the first two jobs went well, I agreed and that was my big mistake. He took the money and never came back. I have learned a very important lesson...it was more than $5,000 I gave him.
Description of Work: the above date is approximate. It may have even been the summer of 2011. Fix crack in house foundation, put up a fence, completely take out and make new front porch and steps, fix cement in front of garage, take out two cement slabs next and resurface carport and patio floors. He was also supposed to fix some chimney bricks.

It was a nightmare. He showed up one day with somebody that looked like he just got out of prison. We gave them $400. The whole job was to be $800. They work for about 3 hours and we never saw them again. They wouldn’t return our calls. I called them from another number. He picked up and he said that they will come the following day and nothing. I even left him a message. We have other people lined up to do other work on the house that needs to be done. It cost us thousands of dollars again. We just wouldn’t use him. He’s not reliable and not professional. We lost a rental because of it. He did like $50 worth of work.

At first, I was reticent about hiring John. I saw that Masonry Restoration had some good and bad reviews thru this and other sites including the BBB. I meet with John and he explained to me that he had a partner who was a problem and when they seperated, the partner used John's business name which is causing all the bad reviews. I took a chance and could not be happier. He was very easy to work with and followed my instructions to a tee. I am a hands on guy so I watched him work and learned alot from his 2 weeks here. He was helped by his two sons and a couple of extra hires on some days and they were always respectful of my property and my requests. I was able to be there the whole time he worked which was great because John kept me informed at every turn at what he was doing and the next step coming. I did find his price high but the price range for this stuff is quite wide. We did deal a little bit to bring price down.( Thanks John) If you are planing to get foundation work, please make sure you talk to John Gulnick. I do recommend him..
Description of Work: My house is an old 1840's farmouse and the back of the house, about 40 feet, and some of the side had foundation issues causing the floors to dip alot. The floors had fallen about 2 inches in spots and the wall were moving away from the sill. The stone foundation had fallen away and we have had some flooding in the past. This space was also a crawlspace making it much more difficult. John removed the old stone wall and replaced it with cinderblock, wfich is fine since it is not visable under the back porch. First John dug a trench about 3 feet below the frost line and poured a cement footing along the complete back and partial side of the house. He then built the block walls, filling them with concrete and rebars to attach the sill. He then pushed the outside walls back over the sills and lowered the floors back onto the new foundation. Being a very old house the floors cannot be totally even but we were very happy with the results. John also put in a new sill where there had been water damage and an access/vetilation window where there was not one. I might also add that there were no cracks or problems from the lifting and only one French door is out of wack a bit which I will fix latter.

He did very good work with the building of the porch, but he messed up with the jacking up of the house. He lifted the floor rather than the house. We weren't able to jack up the house because the floor kept getting higher, but the porch masonry was done very well.
Description of Work: They came and jacked up the part of the house and rebuilt the foundation of the porch.

He is fantastic. He was very punctual. Did a great job, cleaned up when finished and had it finished when he said it would be done. I was so pleased that he gave me a 5 year guarantee on his work.
Description of Work: He repaired four steps and replaced one step that goes from the sidewalk to the house.

The entire experience was excellent, John and his crew worked tirelessly until the job was done, all the way through labor day weekend even, to get the job done. Their estimate was the lowest of 3 we had gotten for the original job and the quality of work was excellent!
Description of Work: They were called to repair a hole in our foundation, however upon inspection it was obvious that a terrible repair had been done by a previous owner and about 1/2 of one foundation wall had to be completely replaced.
