Description of Work: SCS was responsive and great to work with (Jamie's chimney sweep hat was also a nice whimsical touch). Friendly and courteous right out of the gate; it's his business and he appears to take pride in it. I used SCS way back in October or so (late April now), so I'm a bit fuzzy on the exact cost (it may have been a bit less) but it seemed very reasonable for the inspection, cleaning and care that he gave my fireplace and my home. I've used others in the past that gave only fair service, so I'll be calling Jamie's Saratoga Chimney Sweep back whenever I need to have my fireplace checked and cleaned!

We made the appointment for the following week, and they day of the service he called about a half hour before arriving to confirm. We was very knowledgeable and professional, took the time to answer all of my questions and explain everything he did. I will definitely be using him again next year when it needs to be swept again.

Description of Work: We have a dryer with a very long vent under the house in the crawl space. We have cleaned it ourselves but the pre inspection we had b/c we just put our house up for sale said we should have a professional check it out b/c it was so long. So he took care of it for us and the dryer's numbers improved.

Description of Work: The vendor was very professional, moreover, very knowledgeable and informative. Their service approach is fair and sensible with an initial charge to inspect tp determine if a cleaning is needed. If a cleaning is needed, the inspection is semi waived and rolled into the service. They were on time, efficient, and very tidy. I would recommend them again and again.

+ -1 moreI am in contract to buy this house, and was concerned about the chimney and it's flues based on the home inspector's report. I called Jamie in to do a more detailed inspection and estimate. We started in the basement, where we inspected the cleanouts for the two flues. Jamie carefully determined the BTU ratings for the furnace and water heater. He seems knowledgeable in the area of furnace mechanics, codes and specifications. We then returned to the fireplace. Jamie did a careful (level 2) fireplace cleaning and chimney sweeping job. He seems careful and deliberate in his actions (a must when dealing with mounds of ash.) He did a camera inspection of the chimney. He left a clean fireplace and clean workspace. Finally, Jamie went up on the roof to examine the chimney and flues from that end. He examined the heating flue, the crown and the bricks and mortar. Jamie returned a careful and precise report on the conditions of the areas he was hired to inspect. He gave an estimate for the work he could do. Since there is some masonry work to be done, he gave several referrals for good masons to do the job. I was very happy with the experience, and plan to have Jamie as my chimney technician going forward. I did not give Jamie a grade on price because I have never hired a chimney sweep before, did not comparison shop, and have no idea whether his price was high, low or just right. Nonetheless, he spent about three hours there, has a truckload of equipement invested, and his bill was less than $100/hr, so how unreasonable could it be?
Description of Work: This was a pre-purchase inspection. Jamie came in and inspected the chimney, fireplace and flues. He cleaned the chimney, did the camera inspection, and reported on needed repairs. He gave a suitable estimate, and recommendations for the work he does not do. Jamie took the time to educate me and answer all my questions.

+ 0 moreOverall, this project exceeded my expectations. Jamie was recommended through a neighbor. I initially spoke with him by telephone (on a Sunday-which is my day off) and then scheduled a visit that, time-wise, was best for me (on a Monday, my other day-off). He was very accommodating to my schedule and he was on time. No complaints about the drive (I am /we are in the southern Adirondacks). This is a newer home (not quite 3 years old) and this was the first cleaning so naturally I had questions. Jamie explained everything thoroughly and answered all my questions. He was very neat, no mess what so ever and even offered to take his boots off when coming in the house (there are hardwood floors). He is well-credentialed and honored the tradition of a sweep by wearing a black top hat. We expressed to him we'd like to 'get established' with a chimney sweep for our future years as well (regular customer) & Jamie offered his reminder service (there was no charge) and when the next service is due (based on our usage) there'll be a card in the mail. This is a young man so I am hopeful he will be in this business for many years to come. I/we would recommend him without hesitation and will certainly hire him again for future service.
Description of Work: I am/we are pleased to write a positive review for Saratoga Chimney Sweep after their visit to my/our Adirondack log home yesterday. Jamie was recommended to me/us through a neighbor for chimney cleaning (woodstove) and also cleaning the gas fireplace. + -1 moreVery satisfied. He left a reminder card mounted on a magnetic for the refrigerator door and we filled out our address on a postcard to be mailed in the spring. We plan to have him come back in the spring after heating season to clean again and address the missing bricks in the fireplace. Price noted included tax. Our last cleaning had been back in 2009 with another company and we had been charged $125 so the pricing I believe was fair for the hour and a half he spent at our house.
Description of Work: I used Angies list tips and navigated to the two certifying bodies for chimney sweeps. Several companies did not service Warren County. Saratoga Chimney Sweep's website indicated they did and moreover the company/owner Jamie Wallace had both industry certifications as well as Better Business Bureau affiliation. I used their website to leave my name and phone and received a prompt callback during which we scheduled a visit. Pricing was at two levels - less for just a Level-1 inspection and more if the chimney needed to be cleaned. Jamie called in advance the day of the visit indicating when he thought he would arrive since he had an earlier appointment in an adjacent town. Jamie did an inspection of the fireplace box itself, the basement area below the fireplace as well as a visual inspection of the exterior of the chimney. Inspection of the firebox revealed soot and accumulated ash so he continued with the cleaning. Throughout the visit Jamie was very personable, very professional, very courteous. He indicated his focus was on making sure we met safety codes and he also made sure we understood where there were some potential issues that would need to be addressed in the near future (we were missing four bricks on the inside due to deterioration of the brick face). Jamie had floor/carpet mats, vacuum, face mask protecftion for himself, as well as lighting. All we provided was a power outlet at the wall. In addition he cleaned up so you would never know he had been there. Lastly he pointed out some things about fireplaces in older homes like ours (a Montgomery Ward or Sears kit house from the 30's) and avoiding huge fires that super heat the smoke box and flue. It was for us an educational visit as well as a service visit. Loved the top hat too!

dryer vent cleaning
+ -1 moreBeing a first-time home owner, I never thought to have my dryer vent cleaned, but when I complained to friends that my dryer was taking 4 hours+ per load, they nearly set up an appointment for me. Mr. Wallace was punctual and even gave me a call to let me know he would be arriving within 30 minutes. He was just the right balance of professional and personable; put up with my dog and two children following him around asking him questions; and above all, was super clean! He non-judgmentally shared with me the fire hazard of built-up dryer lint and upon asking me the volume usage of my dryer, advised having the lint cleaned out every 2 years instead of the normally recommended 4 years. I would never have known that otherwise! I am sad that my current home does not have a fireplace; without reservation, my next house will have a wood-burning fireplace and I will use it all the time, knowing that Saratoga Chimney Sweep will keep it in regular, safe condition.
Description of Work: The clothes dryer lint was vacuumed and brushed out of not only the vent hose, but the dryer fan as well. It was all finished in one hour.
