When searching for contractors to finish my basement with the help of Angie's list, I found Dave & his company JBL. JBL had numerous very positive reviews. After Dave's initial visit to scope the job for an estimate, he returned his estimate by the end of the week as promised. His level of detail and attention to all of the items that I had specified when meeting him stood out from the start. The estimate was very detailed such that my wife and I knew exactly what to expect. Dave was courteous and professional right from the start. His carpenters, Matt, Joe and Ryan, were detailed oriented and every wall, trim and finish they completed looks fantastic. The plumbers and electrician brought on site were extremely helpful and made the project a success. The server room is fully functional with the necessary AC duct work and electric supply. Dave's crew cleaned up nicely after everyday of work and worked extremely hard to get the job done in time. I highly recommend him and his crew! The basement looks great, with great quality products and quality workmanship. We constantly get compliments. The result.....FANTASTIC! We also had additional work done by Dave that involved replacing our dining room floor. In this project, there was a troublesome leak that ruined the original dining room floor. His crew found the source of the leak. His plumber fixed all the leaking joints and replaced the faulty plumbing. His quotes for this subsequent work were straight forward, detailed and very fair. Overall, Dave and his crew were extremely professional, courteous and skillful. He was easily accessible via text, phone and email and responded quickly whenever we had a question. He is attentive, on time and communicates well and his prices are fair! Dave is the best contractor I have ever worked with in Huntington. If anything comes up, I will be asking Dave and would highly recommend him and his team. Outstanding workmanship and integrity to boot!

We were experiencing a leak around a first story window between the aluminum frame of the window. JBL removed the siding outside the window to determine the cause. At closer examination, it was determined that the area was sealed correctly. The contractor then went to the second story to the window above the first and removed the siding all the way around the window. He retaped all around the window and resealed the TYVEK wrap around the window. The siding was returned to its proper place.

Dave and his crew, Joe and Ryan, arrived right when they said they would. The were very courteous and professional, they put tarps down to protect the carpet even though I said we were planning on tearing it out. I am planning on more renovations and will definitely contact Dave when we have the plans in hand.

Dave Kaplan was very professional with us and straight-forward. I loved that his estimate included things like putting new insulation in exterior walls while the walls were open. He also planned to fix the exhaust venting on another bathroom that we weren't working on but which abutted the bathroom we were planning work on while the ceiling was open. He basically was looking out for bringing our 1967 house up to code in all areas that we could while doing our project. I think our house would have been better off in many ways if we worked with JBL but we decided to go with someone more discount even though I would say Dave's bid was fair for all that it included. I will definitely be calling JBL for our kitchen in the next year or so because with both electric and plumbing and all the other complications of a kitchen, I know JBL will bring a very thorough and professional no-nonsense approach to our job.

The 2 rear posts (6") and header work for my rear deck was well done and it is beautiful again. Their work is outstanding, were always professional and extremely timely. The front post were simply removal of old rotted posts with Perma Posts. So - no complaints of work. But they did nickel and dime me on the installation of my own deck boards and paint (which I purchased) - charged me top dollar to install them, as an adjustment in the original contract. I would call them again and highly recommend using them. Just be very careful with the "small" additions - negotiate well on first contract to avoid issues

JBL installed a door in my basement to provide access to a utility room. The estimate, work, and clean up was all done well in a timely manner. The estimate was fair with no cost overrun. The workers were punctual and polite. I would definitely use JBL for future home repairs.

Dave and his crew did an excellent job. The work was high quality and done on schedule. Dave and his team are are a pleasure to work with. The crew was professional, punctual, responsive and neat. Dave provides a detailed estimate up front; any work that varies from what is in the estimate is added or subtracted as necessary as the project progresses. The overall price was about mid-range compared to other contractors that bid on the job. We appreciated the fact that JBL can complete the entire job by bringing in all the trades: plumbing, tile, paint, carpentry, sheet-rock, glazier, and electric. JBL did a good job scheduling and coordinating these workers. Dave showed up on site most days to discuss and review the work. We like the fact that communication can take place via phone, text or email. Overall we were very satisfied with the work and would use JBL again. We would also recommend JBL to others.

My project was to replace two exterior doors and a bay window. One of the doors had to have the entrance space increased because I was replacing a 30 inch door with a 36 inch door. The owner, Dave Kaplan, came and gave me an estimate that listed each phase of the work. He warned me that because sections of my home are over 100 years old they might have problems installing the front door. I received estimates from two other contractors. Due to a large unexpected outflow of money I could not do the complete project. JBL was the only contractor to reply to my e-mails asking for a new estimate. Dave agreed to do the work at the price he had listed for the two exterior doors on his original estimate. I could not be happier with their work. The workmen showed up at the scheduled time and did a great job. The doors look great. The only problem that they had with the front door was that it sits lower than the old door. This left a space that they filled with insulation then taped and spackled it. They also did some extra work to reinforce the sill on the side door at no additional expense. They left my home and yard clean. I will have them back to do the bay window next year.

David was on time first thing each morning with his crew. Advised us daily in person or and email as to days activities. Had helpful and tasteful ideas to enhance our home many items free or very cost effective. Crews were excellent craftsman and had nothing but great praise for him. His estimate might have been a smidge higher than others but his detail in his estimate an high ratings. With a pleasant n business demeanor sold us. Will be using him in near future for more enhancements. Yeah he is that good n we aren't even related.

This is a follow up to my last review of JBL Home Improvements. I received both an e-mail and a phone call explaining the reason I did not receive a call back after leaving 3 messages was due to the phone system going down after a storm and was not fixed by the phone company for an extended period of time. I appreciate both the explanation and the apology and demonstrates a high level of professionalism.

I used JBL previously for some repair work in my home and his crew did a great job at a very reasonable price. When I discovered that the cement floor in my living room was not level enough to install a hardware floor over I contacted Dave and asked him for a quote and and schedule for leveling the floor. He returned my call promptly and gave me a good price (my living room is very large) and a very quick start date. His crew came in and did an excellent job of leveling the floor, including raising it up so that there is only a little transition between one room and the next (previously there was a large step down to the living room). I highly recommend JBl for home improvements.

I did not use JBL improvements because they never responded to my calls. I did some calls to 3 others and some responded but never showed up for their appointments. These people have probably more jobs that they can handle. But at least they should have the decency to decline our job offers, which they never did. I however have another company ALURE HOME IMPROVEMENTS. Very responsible company and reliable. They are going to start in April of this year. I will inform Angie's List how good they are after the job is done. Approximate cost of the job is $13000. I think it is somewhat expensive for a walk in shower and other alterations.

Dave Kaplan and JBL Home Improvements are the best! Dave responded promptly to my request for an estimate and applied Angie's discount to the estimate without my prompting. The quality of the work was outstanding and the job was done with mimimal hassle factor in my home. I have had drywall repairs in this home and other homes in the past and nothing compares to the quality of workmanship from JBL. I actually regret I did not have a more significant project for them but will certainly use them in the future. To give you an idea of their professionalism I had purchased the wood trim myself for our sun porch. The JBL team pointed out I had not matched the trim correctly and would not be happy with the finished product. In an age where many home improvement companiesjust do what was asked of them JBL genuinely cares about customer satisfaction. It is not just lipservice! I reccomend JBL without reservation as a high quality company committed to their customers.

Dave and his crew are professionals of the highest order. He completed all the work on time and close to estimate. The only overages were ones that were agreed upon during the course of the work. He was always responsive to any questions or concerns I had through email and phone. His advice was always spot on making for a great experience and fabulous outcome.

From start to finish, JBL provided exceptional services. Dave was extremely professional, responsive, and courteous during all phases of our bathroom remodels. His attention to detail and responsiveness were great and even the most minor concerns were handled efficiently and promptly. We could not be happier with the finished product! Our bathrooms look beautiful. All of Dave's crew was equally professional and courteous and their workmanship is phenomenal! Our bathrooms were completed within the time specified in the contract as Dave and his crew adhere to their schedule. Dave was very hands on and heavily involved in overseeing all aspects of our bathroom remodels. His crew was always punctual and were extremely mindful of our home and maintaining their work area clean and tidy. Our communication with Dave was excellent as he was easily accessible and extremely responsive to all of our needs. We feel fortunate to have found a company like JBL and will most certainly use their services for future projects!

The job went exactly as JBL said it would. He stared on time, arived each day on time and finished a day ahead of schedule. All of the work was done perfectly, the job site ( my lower level) was cleaned each day. When they left the only evidence that they were here, was a brand new bathroom. I would strongly recommend JBL to anyone.

JBL was awesome. The price was very reasonable when compared to competitive estimates and the workmanship was outstanding. Dave Kaplan offered many suggestions to both improve the design my wife and I had developed and to keep us within our budget. Dave never took the easy way out, always attending to the aesthetics of the finished product rather than just getting the job done. For example, Dave insisted on moving a stanchion 4 inches, because he could then bury it inside a wall. We would have settled for leaving it in place were it not for his offer. Also, he insisted on full 8 foot drop ceilings, which left his ceiling crew with about 2 inches to work with. The JBL crew(s) were neat, very respectful of our home and very professional.. Words cannot describe how pleased we are with our new living space. We would definitely recommend JBL to neighbors and friends.

I called about repair service for a large hole in the Fascia on my roof.Snows coming and rain and squirrels are getting in.Wanted an estimate and to find out when the repair could be done.Was told they're not interested and to busy with bigger jobs and they wouldn't get to me for at least a month.

Dave is a professional. It was evident in his bid thru the completion of the job. He showed up when he said he would and if there was a change he gave me plenty of advanced notice. His crew was nothing short of professional and did a great job. His bid was by far the most complete and detailed of the all the contractors I had bid. We had a wrinkle with his HVAC sub, Dave stayed on it until it was resolved and kept me abreast of the progress. He responded quickly by both email and phone. Most contractors have yet to master email and the power of the internet, we were able to communicate just fine by email. However he was NOT a no show contractor which I have experienced in the past. He showed up most days (no matter if it was truly required that day or not) and kept a keen eye on the work. Dave is a rare find and I plan on asking him to bid my next project, my kitchen. Angie's list would go out of business if all the contractors were like Dave & the JBL crew!

Dave was accommodating and took my busy schedule into account. He called me back and/or replied to my emails in a timely manner when I had a question. He and his workers were punctual every time. The bathroom looks beautiful. The paint job was excellent. The mirrors and light fixtures look great. Dave was very conscientious about cleaning up after each time work was done.

Overall we were very happy with Dave's (JBL) work. The quality of the work was exceptional working with David was relatively easy. The people Dave had come to our us were very pleasant and professional. The three challenges we had was 1) Finalizing the contract based on the specific windows and requirements we wanted, this took some time and effort 2)Timing of starting work, once it started it was pretty straightforward 3) Not a clear understanding of the contract requirements for staining the windows, i.e. saying two coats instead of stating match the other window colors. So focus on the contract stating clearly what you actually want. We would highly recommend JBL to anyone Blaine & Gina

The gentleman who came knew his stuff, and probably competent But he was much more expensive than the company I chose to do the work
