terrible It took them 2 days and 11 men to move and pack us. 1/2 of them stood in the truck smoking cigarettes. I told them how delicate antiques needed to be packed and they were horribly broken when they arrived. Broken 19th century wash bowls from my mother, broken furniture. In all my days of moving I have NEVER had this amount of breakage! I am so upset and them one of the workers stole my medication and money. I threw them all out of the house and they emptied all their pockets. Of course who ever too the 2000$ worth of meds and money was already ingested . Allied corporate has refused to answer any of my phone calls . They have bad subcontractors and don't want to do anything about it. DO YOURSELF A FAVOR AND DO NOT USE ALLIED. YOU DON'T KNOW WHO WILL BE REALLY MOVING YOU!!!!

The moving team was nice enough and on time, we tipped them well, but somewhere between them putting our belongings in public storage and getting to the new house they damages multiple items, boxes were crushed, and more. When we called to talk to the owner Keith he told my mother (who is very level headed and kind) that she packed the boxes so she was responsible for if they got crushed and that he doesn't need to to do anything because she got the basic insurance. So basically they can treat your stuff like crap if you have the insurance. He then told my mom she was the rudest person he had ever talked to and hung up on her.

We regret you are disappointed with the move. however please keep in mind you were advised at the time of your estimate if you pack your items you will be responsible for breakage. We can not take the responsibility for items which are packed by someone other then Astro Moving And Storage. Our men are trained to pack and protect all item professionaly. Also during the estimate you were also advise about basic liability and extra care protection and you chose basic liability. In this case basic liability or extra care protection would not cover the items that were not packed by Astro moving and storage. All items would have been covered if it was packed by Astro. We regret you found it necessary to write these things. We value our customers; we hope that you would understand our position in this matter. Once again we thank you for allowing Astro Moving And Storage to be of service to you.

Today, almost 5 months after the final delivery and too many phone calls to count, we received a check for $254 for 4 missing items: a 2.5 ft. statue (1 of a pair); a dresser which is part of a bedroom set; a round foyer table; and a 5 ft. tall pedestal flower arrangement. This is on top of 'forgetting' a sectional sofa which was delivered after the main delivery. While we did not take out the additional insurance, and, per their letter they "generously" gave us an additional $200 (less than 1/2 of 1 month's storage fee), the main issue has never been addressed: How did the stuff go missing? We were told, and paid for, everything being stored together. We have moved 8 times to 5 different states so we understand that things do happen. NEVER have we been this dissatisfied with a moving company. Moving companies are competitive - this wasn't the cheapest, but we thought the Astro/Allied connection meant something. Apparently it didn't.
Description of Work: Had them move and store at their facility the entire house. Had a partial delivery of previously indicated items after 6 months. Had everything delivered to new out-of-state location after an additional 12 months.

Astro Moving moved us in the early spring. It was a move of about 1 mile in distance. As they were unpacking, the mover told me they broke the runner part of my custom, upholstered rocking chair. He glued it and taped it. Then he had me sign something that said that that everything else was fine. The next day I noticed that a wooden spindle on the back of a dining chair (that they set up out of notice) was broken. I found this out because the piece fell off onto the floor when I moved the chair. I also noticed another dining chair leg was broken and glued back on with the same glue color they used on the broken rocker. Lastly, I noticed that a piece of plastic from the front of my DVD player was broken off and stuck back on. After complaining and leaving messages, on June 12th I received a letter dated March 29 (more than 2 months before) with a check for a grand total of $19.20 for the 3 broken chairs and cracked DVD. I'm throwing the rocking chair with the broken runner and the chair with the broken leg out, since someone could get seriously hurt if the chair/rocker should collapse while in use. Worst moving experience ever.

We sincerely regret that you were disappointed with your move. Our pledge is to provide quality service and we always strive for customer satisfaction. We do nearly 3000 moves a year and have been in business for more than 40 years. Although we strive for perfection; sometimes we miss the mark for some unforeseeable reason. We do provide valuation on every move based on either the total weight of the move or per valuation of the contents of the move. It is up to the customer to decide which valuation coverage they wish to pay for. The valuation option for this particular move was based on weight and therefore Astro paid out based on .30 cents per lb not what the replacement cost of the items would be. According to our records, the claims adjuster answered all your calls and questions to the best of their knowledge

They moved my daughter down. Their service was not as good as the company who moved us up but then it was not bad. The people who came were very pleasant, hardworking and thorough. It took them an extraordinarily long time for them to get down to New Jersey but I am not sure if that had anything to do with the weather because we had a terrible snow storm and some of the roads were blocked. It took them 5-6 hours, which is double the time to get to New Jersey but they finally did get there. There were some difficulties with my daughter getting into her apartment and therefore we had to last minute make arrangements to get to a storage unit and they were very cooperative with that. The only thing is that they were a couple of small items that were left on the truck which we weren’t aware of since the stuff was in the storage unit. One of the young men was nice enough to call us up and drove to my house and handed it to us. Their price was the same as the other companies. They did leave something behind but they came and gave it to me. It was not as if it got lost. They did pack up everything. Some things were beyond their control so I won’t mark them down for punctuality. The young man who was in charge was very professional.

Moved from New York City to California. First of all the BID was about 1/2 of the actual cost. They claimed that I did not understand how that worked. I have moved 20 times in my life AND I do know how that works. Next they could NEVER give me the real moving date which caused me unbelievable stress especially since I got calls everyday from the building management demanding to kow what day I was going to move on. On a positive note, nothing was broken (I expect that), and at the unloading end, the guys were great!

We actually did give this gentleman an estimate for $4,650. He ended up choosing another moving company. After we contacted him about his complaint against us, the following is his response. Remember - if the price is too good to be true - it probably isn't true. [member contact information and email timestamp removed] I am so sorry but it was Astro Relocation Companies located at 30 Jefferson Avenue, St. James NY 11780 and whose phone number is 631 584-7700 and not you who moved us. They are a division of Allied Van Lines that actually moved us and for whom the complaint should be about. Can you forward this email on to Angie’s List for them to correct? All of the other information was correct except the name of the company.IF you cannot, please let me know and I will contact Angie’s List for them to make the correction. [member name removed]

The April 2010 move was beyond spectacular and exceeded all my expectations. I used the 4 man-group package and they arrive promptly at 800am and was a well-oiled team that clearly have worked together and knew what they were doing. By mid-afternoon, they were completely done and moved out of the house and by 300pm, they cleared out the truck and moved everything into the storage facility. Everything was immaculately wrapped and taped and just taken care of. Although they finished earlier than the estimated 8 hours of time that was originally quoted, I didn?t even bother to go back to the original bill and ask for money back because they shouldn?t be penalized for working faster and harder. Besides, they went exactly within the price quote. Since moving from storage into a house was supposed to be quicker and cheaper (no more packing and wrapping to be done?just load into truck and leave in the new residence), and especially since I had such a good experience, I called ASTRO again. It was a disaster. Another 4-man-team came. Late. They started a hour late and then the crew chief spends another 40 minutes telling me and my husband that they work really hard and they live on tips and hinting the entire time that they would work better if we tipped well. Then, they asked for water and food to be supplied. I couldn?t believe it. It took 4 hours to move already pre-packaged boxes and furniture into the truck and then they went and had an hour for lunch. The first team had packed, wrapped, and shrunk-wrapped the entire house into boxes and packages AND loaded everything into the truck, AND drove to the storage place in the same time frame. Then, it took another 4 hours to just move the things into the new house. The killer came when they went OVER the 8 hours budgeted (although their own estimator stated that moving from storage facility to house is always less time than the other way around). We also were moving into a bigger place and most of this second part of the move entailed the team to just move the things into the house and the garage. So the crew chief basically stated that I could either call the company and pay the extra hour or pay them the extra hour direct. Since I budgeted the tip to be the extra hour, I just paid him to extra hour direct ($170) and lo-and-behold, everything gets done in 20 minutes.
Description of Work: I actually used them twice. (so it was $1800 x TWO). Once in April 2010 to move out of my house with all the stuff going into storage, and then the second time, to have them move everything out of storage into a new home in July 2010.

The experience overall was a disaster. They violated my contract by charging me more than the 10% guarantee in my contract. Initially I was told I could pay by credit card and they even gave me a form for it in advance. However, once they had my things on the truck they refused to take them off the truck until I paid them with a certified bank check. To this day (3 weeks later) I still have yet to receive a receipt from them. I still have no idea what my extra charges are for. Although I bought the added insurance, I have no proof that those funds were allocated for insurance either. Now that they have my money they refuse to answer the phone or call back. Quite frankly, I feel like I was extorted. I would advise anyone considering using this firm to stay far far away. They are more corrupt than you would think any business still operating could get away with. At this time, I am reporting them to the better business bureau. But I do not have any faith that I will get the additional money I paid back.
Description of Work: I used Astro (an agent of Allied Van Lines) for my interstate move from New York. I used Astro because of a recommendation from my Brother who had a successful out of state move with them. Unfortunately I found out that all of the people that worked on the trucks with my brother have left the company. The price they initially quoted me was slightly less than the estimates I got from other movers in the area. I made sure that I was thorough with the salesman and I showed him everything they would need to pack. We packed ourselves but needed them to pack only the mattresses, the LCD TV's and our important art work and pictures. The salesman's name was Bob Eichinger and he assured me that it would all be covered in the price he quoted me and that there would be no surprises. We brought him in early for an estimate - about 6 months before the move he quoted me a price of $6800. We thought it was a fair price and decided to dumpy some furniture to lower our moving costs. About 3 garage sales and 1 month away from move time I brought him back in to a**** what my new charge would be. This time he tells me the price will be $8600. I asked for an explanation on the price increase and his reasoning was that all van lines are hiking their prices for moves in the summer. Against my better judgement I still stuck with him since he seemed like a decent enough guy. However, with the new higher cost I now decided I needed to dump more furniture. So I sold my heaviest items, including my dining room set and armoire. And my living room set including leather couches. Bob assured me that I would only pay for the actual weight at the weigh. And if my furniture came in less than his estimate we would get money back. Skip forward to move day, the guys that show up to pack my house come with a big truck. None of them are wearing moving company t shirts. I talk them all and find out that none of them have worked together before. Most of them are on their first job for this moving company. Even the truck driver had no idea who my movers were. For certain these guys were not career movers. They were not union employees. They looked like they had been pulled in off the street for my move. Additionally they show up without any packing boxes. So they have no way to wrap my LCD TV's picture frames or mattresses. Everyone on this truck is in a big rush and they are practically running through my house grabbing things. My LCD 1080P TV (which I made sure to explain was very important to me) were taken away with a blanket wrapped around it. Normally this would setoff alarm bells in someone head. Unfortunately I was in the position were my house was sold, and I needed to have my furniture out of that house by that evening. So instead of stopping them I call the office of Astro and the salesman's desk and mobile phone. The owner of Astro from the first time he picks up the phone talks to me like I'm bothering him. I explain the situation with my TV and his response is that there is not a wrapping for a TV on the contract. Nonetheless he will "take care of it". Well the salesman never called me back and nobody ever took care of it. My 55" inch TV which I paid over $3000 was put on the truck with a blanket around it. There are a dozen things like this that happened on the move day. I don't have the time to write them all. And when I finally get a hold of the salesman, he tells me that my TV was brought back to their warehouse and repacked. Suffice to say, he lied. My TV was not repacked and it came off the truck the same way it went on. Next problem. My truck is now weighed before driving accross country and I'm told that they underestimated my weight. And that on top of the extra weight they will need to charge me for all the extra packing they did including the packing of my LCD TV. The price has now gone up another $1200 (total of $9800 - which exceeds the contract guarantee of 10% increase). Keep in mind at this point I'm expecting a price decrease from getting rid of my living room and dining room set. I'm furious. I ask for an invoice that shows the weight and the extra items they packed. I'm assured that I will get an invoice snail mailed to me. I ask for a fax instead. I give them a fax number and follow up with phone calls. Always the phone is answered by someone different who claims to be unfamiliar with my situation. On the other end, I fly across country and meet the truck at my new location. At this point I'm still waiting for a copy of my bill so I can see what I paid extra for. I call and give more fax numbers. Again I'm told the fax was sent. It wasn't. I call and give another fax number at my hotel. Same story. No fax. Now the day arrives when my truck is ready to unpack my stuff. The driver now tells me that he will not take my items off the truck until he is paid in full via certified check. I ask the driver for a copy of my bill with extra overages. He claims not to have one. He tells me that if I dont pay him he has other stops to take and my furniture will be on its way to California. At this point without a new invoice, or any understanding of what I am paying for I go and get him a bank check. The drive then reveals to me that the owner of this company is a problem and that he had similar problems on the last four moves he did for this company. He then unloads my furniture into storage and leaves without leaving me any time to check the electronics.
