 + -1 moreOverall very well. Mr. Goburn came at an agreed time to measure and estimate the cost of repairing the damage. He provided a detailed estimate which was accepted in full by my insurance company. The repairs were stared and completed satisfactorily within the contracted time.

 + 2 moreAfter multiple failed attempts by two other providers and unbearable length of time with water coming through the ceiling, Norman was able to locate the source of my leaky roof. Norman was patient and provided clear and consistent information regarding what would be necessary for the repair. His staff did a fantastic job in stopping the leak. I was well pleased with the job. Subsequently, he did a number of other jobs for me. He repaired a pipe leak in the basement which required pipe work in upstairs two bathrooms. His staff did a fine job and were very neat with cleanup. The prices were reasonable, completion timeframe was quick and Norman inspected the work with enough consistency to ensure appropriate care was provided for the task. I consider the work for these 2 jobs to be excellent. I was less satisfied with the quality of a bedroom paint job that I had done later; wall prep in the window area was not well done, the old cracked plaster/paint around the window area were not removed nor properly sanded to give a polished finish. Unfortunately, Norman's most recent customer service also proved to be unsatisfactory. I contacted Norman in late 2013 regarding a basement re-modeling job and he made several commitments to follow up with me and did not do so. This was surprising since I had referred him to a friend for two rather large jobs for which he expressed appreciation and a commitment to provide a discount to me for future work. Overall, the work I had completed was good despite the latest less-than-optimal experience.

Although some of his employees were not so professional in terms of foul language and asking to use our bathroom. This was about a year and a half ago so perhaps some of the bad seeds have dropped off. Through all of this we would still use NW Goburn services again.

 + -1 moreI had an old antenna on my chimney which I needed to have removed. It was a very simple job. Goburn made it very convenient for me. I gave him the address, stopped by (when I wasn't home), called me with a price for removal and removed the antenna and discarded it, as well. We made arrangements for payment. Everything went smoothly!

 + -1 moreThere are too many contractors out there for me to ever hire this man again. He may have some redeeming qualities, but not when it comes to working on someone's home. He did however deduct $450 from the fee he quoted. Do your research, negotiate everything before anyone touches anything, and question how the job is going to be done.
Description of Work: Mr. Goburn may know what to do,but his men do not. His first job was to install a back door, frame and all after an attempted break-in. he arrived the same time the police did. Bravo! The men seemed to be very professional. Everything was covered with plastic to protect the furniture. My insurance company said his price of $900. was reasonable. The problem is the door was improperly hung! During the heat wave the whole back area was hot, no matter how high the AC was. You can see light around the door! It will have to be fixed before the winter comes or we will freeze! He was called back to do a second job before I noticed this first mess. My waste pipe burst, when he and his plumber came to assess the job, the plumber noted there was more splits up the pipe. When they came back, Mr. Goburn denied knowing this and charged me an extra $700 to extend the pipe repair! Later that night filthy water backed up in kitchen sink all over the floor and everywhere. He sent some other company the following morning, who proceeded to tell me it was my sewer, not the plumbers failure to flush the line when he was done with the repair! Its a good thing I do my research. Mr. Goburn then tried to extract $250 from me for his plumbers error. The man he sent to sheetrock and tile both walls was not skilled in either area. I made him remove the tile, and he was fired!

 + -1 moreIt took 2 to 3 days to even get ahold of them. Then they finally came out and I told him what I wanted to have done. He said he would get back to me, and he never called me back. 6 days later, I am still waiting. I wished he would just tell me truthfully if he was too busy, or my job was too small etc.
Description of Work: I needed them for a handyman service, working on some shelves, a garage door sealer and some other little things around the home.

 + -1 moreTHE COMPANY OWNER AND 2 WORKERS SHOWED UP ON TIME. ONE WORKER REMOVED THE SHINGLES IN THE AREA WHERE THE LEAK WAS EVIDENT. THE OTHER WORKER OPENED THE CEILING INSIDE BUT WAS UNABLE TO PINPOINT EXACTLY WHERE THE LEAK WAS COMING IN, BECAUSE OF A JOIST IN THE WAY, AND THE PRESENCE OF INSULATION. THE WOOD UNDER THE SHINGLES WAS ALSO REMOVED, SHOWING THAT THE PREVIOUS ROOFING JOB WAS DONE POORLY BECAUSE OF OPEN LARGE SPACES BETWEEN THE PIECES OF WOOD (A PLYWOOD SHEET WAS NOT USED). MR. GOBURN, THE ROOFING COMPANY OWNER, NEEDED TO PURCHASE ADDITIONAL SUPPLIES AND DID THIS QUICKLY. THE ENTIRE JOB WAS DONE IN ADEQUATE TIME, INCLUDING REPLACING THE INNER CEILING, SPACKLING AND SMOOTHING. WE HAVE HAD SEVERAL HEAVY RAINS SINCE THEN, AND ALL SEEMS WELL. I AM CONFIDENT THAT N. W. GOBURN FOUND THE SOURCE OF THE LEAK, BUT ALSO CONFIDENT THAT IF NEEDED HE WOULD RETURN TO ADDRESS ANY CONCERNS THAT I MIGHT HAVE. THE WORKERS DID A PROFESSIONAL CLEANUP.

Description of Work: Mr. Goburn was very nice and thorough in his examination of my roof and the surrounding areas. He gave me an extremely well-written and detailed estimate. Unfortunately, his prices for the work that needs to be done were beyond my budget at this point. Based on the other reviews and my own experience, I would recommend him but sadly I will not be able to fully review his work at this time.

 + 1 moreafter all that, we just had to let him know, we are going to use him and we asked him to come pick up $100.00 in cash as agreed by both parties. He did not say much when he arrived. Just signed on the receipt book, took the cash and he was gone. We feel bad because since we live here, we want to give business to neighborhood vendors. Unfortunately, if you are to look at Norman and the way he presents himself, the only lasting impression you have after the second time with his was anything but trust. Hope he learns from this and realizes that LOSS LEADER CAN GENERATE MUCH BIGGER BUSINESS..
Description of Work: I rejoined Angie's List after the water pipe in the basement leaked. Contacted Norman Goburn on 12/25/2011 around 9 a.m. A woman answered the phone and I was told to talk to Norman. He came to my house about 1 hour later. (my house is about 1/6 mile from his place. I'm not sure if it's the house or business he has there.) He told me to shut off the boiler and inspected the pipe. Then he said we must replace the pipe, which he said it's the best and permanent solution. He also told us that it would take about 2-3 days to complete and $2,400.00. It was Christmas time and when he was kind enough to come, we told him to patch the area temporarily and to come back to perform the job later. He agreed to come back the following day. However, when he came back that day, the access was blocked so he had to leave and came back the following day to finish the patching. His way of patching was DUCK TAPE ON 3 HOLES and he was gone. We later turned on the boiler and the geyser of water that spread was much worse than before. 3 days of no heat and the temperature at night was 30's was a bit too much to deal with. We had a neighbor come look at the pipe and he drained the water from the pipe, sanded the area real dry, applied the putty we got from Home Depot and finished it with a clamp of rubber tiles and tighten the pipe. finished the job. Supplies was $40.00 Labor $60.00 and good neighbor cheer with rum! What did we hear from Norman? He called a couple of times and told us that he made attempts to visit and tried to perform the job. Caused his crews and him time and effort to do the job. We found that it was not worth it to have bad blood in the neighbor. The mistakes we made is we CONTACTED HIM to begin with. He is not professional in any way he tried to show us he could do the job. It's shown through he was not capable of doing temporary or permanent job to assure us he knows what he is doing. He fits the mold of bad handyman. The worst nightmare in home improvement business we saw on TV or read in newspaper a couple of years back. In this recession, if he was smart enough, he would take time to assure us with temporary work and show it as gratis or loss leader. We put it in writing what we wanted done in the house, not just heating, but also roofing and siding and redirecting of gutters. He seems eager to take care of us. However, his manner was just a bit scary, like the guy with Three Card Monty on a Times Square sidewalk that keep pushing at you and remove all the common sense or comfort from you.

I initially contacted him as a roofer, but it's nice to have someone you can call on for a variety of jobs. He is always responsive to phone calls and is very easy to deal with. Once we agreed on the approach and the price, Norman promptly came to do the work and completed it efficiently and well. His pricing was very competitive. I hope to use his services for additional jobs in the future, and in fact I'm awaiting an estimate to replace the roof on the garage.

It was a small area in the back of a rental home,I needed some siding and insulation for exposed areas around door and window. After a survey of the area,I was quoted a price of $600.00 which included everything! He asked for $200.00 which I gave to him in cash and was given a receipt. Next day Mr Goburn arrived at the agreed upon time and completed all work even cleaned up nicely! This was a job I needed done for a while, I'm so glad I waited to have it done right. Thanks Angie's List! never would have found him on my own.
