James was professional with communication. He was responsive and upfront with his bid. After looking at the project he suggested knotty pine ceiling which I am forever grateful because it is so beautiful! Also, after looking at the project he gave me a flat rate and an hourly rate but suggested the hourly. I went with hourly and I am glad I did because of the following!
Michael,  who I had the pleasure of having him work on this project, was an angel sent from heaven. He was on time every day, worked steady and communicated with me through out the project. He is a stickler for detail and did an amazing job! And because he did such I good job I kept adding to the project which allowed me to get the room done. He was able to fix past contractors poor work. I really think he can fix anything. And the knotty pine ceiling is absolutely gorgeous! Yes, I would bring them back again!

James (owner) called me promptly after receiving my deal purchase via the Angie's List website. I had several questions about what could be completed in the 8 hours of labor time that I purchased. He was honest about my proposed punch list and indicated that it might not be possible to complete everything, and I appreciated knowing that up front. (I'm not unreasonable, but I prefer to know what I'm getting into rather than being disappointed later.) Even though I'm a female, I'm not an idiot and
I obviously prefer to feel like a vendor is speaking TO me rather than AT me. James delivered! 
The Atherton employee who performed the work was Mike. He was great! He showed up on time and was courteous and professional. He had me show him all the work to be done and then got to work right away. I had a long list of items to complete in the time allotted, and except for a brief lunch break, he was working hard the entire time. He was friendly and amiable and communicated with me about any concerns he ran into, and by the end of the day he had me look around at what he had completed (everything!!!) to be sure I was satisfied. I'm more than satisfied--I'm very pleased and I would recommend this business to anyone who asked. 
Side note--Mike was also very friendly and gentle around my dogs. I was relieved because they can be curious, trying to figure out what the stranger is doing in the house. Since Mike was calm and friendly, the dogs were relaxed so it was one less stress I'd have had to deal with.

During the entire process from evaluation to completion, James and his team we very professional.    The were very communicative the entire time.   Scheduling and progress updates were given regularly and we are pleased with the results.   Came in on quote, and did not increase price for a couple of small additions I made.   Our only regret is that we didn't do it sooner!

I hired James through his $150 for 3 hours of drywall or plaster repair big deals. Very well worth the money!



He contacted me quickly, we arranged a time for the repair, he was very easy to do business with. His guy Mike called prior to his arrival, said he could come earlier than expected. He was fantastic; a nice guy, well spoken, good craftsman. I've tried for year to master drywall repair, I admire his skills.

He patched a 4 to 5 sq ft section of ceiling in our bedroom where there was water damage that I couldn't quite master, and he fixed two-3 foot  cracks in a hallway where the house has settled.  Honestly, I would have spent and entire weekend trying to do this, Mike had it setup and done in about 2 hours.



I now know they do all phases of remodeling and construction, and will try to hire them for other projects I may have.

Everything was fine.  We had to delay it a bit due to weather, but when the time came everything went very well.  I was a little nervous that I had to have the materials ob hand before the work was done because I wasn't sure I'd get the right thing to finish it.  But I did by staying in contact with them, and it went well.

Atherton Painting painted multiple rooms for me as part of their deal they sold for $299. They also did some short notice work repairing grout and caulking a shower. I wouldn't hesitate to use them for other and larger jobs in the future.
They communicated both through Angieslist Messages and my cell phone to coordinate my scheduling. Afterwards they communicated with me via text and phone calls. As the work was happening I was contacted to ensure that it was being done to my standards.
The painter showed up exactly on time. He was a machine, wortking quickly, neatly, and nearly non-stop for the entire day. He was able to paint a very large bathroom (2 coats) and it's ceiling (1 coat), a basement stairwell and it's ceiling (1 coat) and a large exterior door while he was here. He also touched up a spot high on a vaulted ceiling. The paint looks fantastic, the edges are some of the best I have ever seen.
The person that came for the grout and caulk was also timely, nice and did a great job.

Where do I begin !! This was a perfect deal for what I needed and once I bought it James contacted me within an hour to discuss what was to be done and make sure we were on the same page. Once a day was picked Chris arrived right on time and after a quick setup started painting. Now if this is an example of his work crew you have nothing to worry about as he was totally professional and efficient at what he does. James called to check on how things were going  and if I was happy with everything. I have no hesitation in recommending this company to anyone who would ask. First, let me just say I am not one to write reviews, but my experience with Atherton Painting was a very positive experience and I felt compelled to share it. My family and I purchased a home recently that would be defined as a "fixer upper" - structurally sound, but visually an eyesore. We knew we had a project ahead of us, and immediately began scouring Angie's List for painters and contractors for some immediate renovation work. After interviewing several contracting companies and getting price quotes all over the map, we interviewed James - owner of Atherton Painting. James contacted me back immediately, and came to my house that same evening to inspect/price out the project. We were pricing out an interior painting project of nearly 3400 sq ft, including staircases and all trim/mouldings and doors. After James arrived, we spent about a half hour discussing the work we envisioned, our budget, and time restraints. James listened to all our concerns and was upfront and honest about the scope of the job. His quote of $6800 and time frame of 1.5 weeks was less than that of his Angie's List competitors, and the contract offered was inclusive of a total job through completion (including small wall repairs, dents, and removal of small closet items. There were not costly add-ons, additional expenses, etc), and the contract stipulated the job was to be completed to our satisfaction. James was professional, honest, and above all realistic - which was a breath of fresh air. We hired Atherton Painting that evening. James's crew began work as scheduled, and every morning they arrived early and went straight to work. I would check in on the property often, and each time I would see considerable progress being made by the painting crew (led by Chris). In addition, both James and Chris had excellent communication and offered continual updates on the progress of the job. They were also very open to on-the-fly suggestions or small changes to painted areas. The project was completed on time, and the results were incredible. In just under 2 weeks, the house looked completely different and virtually brand new. In the final walk through, James and Chris closely examined any area that was not up to their standards, and corrected it on the spot. The attention to detail and quality of the work was truly impressive - and worth every penny of hiring a professional crew. We were so impressed with James and his crew that we contracted them for some other smaller projects, to include :the moving of our existing first floor bathroom laundry area to a second floor closet (including the opening of a closet door frame, re-routing all the plumbing/venting, and the installation of the proper electric outlets), installing a water softener, and installing a new gas line in the kitchen for the range. Once again, the work was done with excellent ongoing communication from James, and completed well within the proposed time and budget. After the work was completed, James went over all the specific charges associated with these new projects, and fully explained any questions my wife or I had. My wife and I were consistently impressed with the level of expertise and courtesy James and his crew offered from the early stages of our home repair projects. We will feel very comfortable referring him and his company to anyone we know that is in need of quality, dependable, and honest contracting services.

I had a plumbing leak in my kitchen ceiling. (emergency)  After the plumber repaired the leak I called Atherton Painting.  James Atherton was able to help me on short notice.  I used Atherton Painting just a few months back and they did a wonderful job on some interior work.  Within just 2 days, my ceiling was removed, a new inserted, and then they  prime and painted it. The work looks AWESOME!

Very organized young man and his team. You will get all receipts and clean territory at the end of theirs work.
I am very satisfied his work and thinking to continue to do some other projects with him  in future!!

Atherton painting did a fantastic job! James Atherton and his employees are neat clean cut professionals.! My house looks 20 years younger ! They showed up on time, and finished right on schedule ! Not only did the do a great job on painting my home but also the carpentry. I'm completely satisfied with this company and would recommend to all!!
