He added many false additional charges which I paid in cash to the contractor. Then he left the job unfinished and fully paid. My bad, I learned a lesson. Please let me be the only one that learns the lesson. BTW- he also filed a complaint that I was running an illegal day care. I was vindicated but he was a truly evil man that has not problem not doing the job and screwing the customer at the same time.
Description of Work: This contractor promised me a beautiful and reliable job and unfortunately I believed him. I provided pictures of all the elements that I wanted (pictures of built in planters, and pictures of railings and 3D renderings of the project with specific measurements.) He then sent sub contractors to do the work. He hurried them and the work was very poor. He tried to blame them for the poor work but he continued to send them unsupervised to do the job. When the job came back with uneven and unfinished built in planters, no pre-drilled holes (meaning splitting and splintering wood at every screw point. ) Uneven gate that the walls on either side swing back and forth when you open and close the gate. Screws exposed and jutting out where the sub-contractor attached the latch. Unaligned stair edges (which he tried to tell us was a "style" that was common.) Though this contractor convinced us to use ipe wood ( a rich brown hard tropical wood,) he framed the wood with pressure treated wood (blond in appearance) and did not stain it. So that here is a very stark and obvious difference between the face and the framing area /sides of the walls and gate area. When I asked him why he didn't stain the wood, he said it was not in the contract. In the end he came by and made a list of items to fix and finish 4 times. (The same list each time as no further work was ever done.) He then scheduled to complete the work 3 times. Each time he never showed up or called even though we checked in with him and were assured he would be there multiple times. ) Once it became clear that he was not going to finish we told him we would take him to court. He then began to insinuate that he would call the department of buildings on us, as he believed we were operating a day care in our home (we are not.) His true colors shown at last. Don't trust this contractor! I will happily supply anyone who is interested of pictures of the job he did - if you have any doubt about whether or not you should avoid this contractor.
