Never heard back from them despite several attempts at contacting them.

It didn't.

We contacted at least six companies to get estimates for repairing our driveway. Several never called back, some started the process and then stopped returning calls or some other thing that got us to drop them. The two left in the running were Pittsford Paving and Winton Paving. Pittsford was professional and responsive. in the end, they cost more and gave us less detail on what would be necessary to do the job. Winton Paving was very professional. they came when they said they would (seriously - like within 10 minutes of when they promised each time). They explained in detail what would be involved. We had a driveway that was 20 years old, never topcoated (just an exposed binder coat) that was starting to break up and developing potholes as well as being bumpy. They explained that they woudl take off the asphalt and leave teh gravel bed if it was deep enough and sound. Otherwise, they would have to dig and replace it. They gave us a number assuming the gravel was fine and would give us an updated number if it wasn't. In the end, most of it was fine. They had to replace a little gravel that was on a section that was added after the main driveway had been paved, and supplement some spots with additional gravel. We used to have a little grade right by the road because it is higher than the driveway - a problem in winter sometimes because it would freeze over. They added enough gravel to make the driveway a smooth grade from the road up the drive (our driveway is about 150 feet long). Because they added the turnaround, they said they wanted to wait a month for it to steel before paving, otherwise it woudl end up bumpy after a few years. It was frustrating having to wait, but we respected the care they showed in wanting to give us a good result that would last for years. They were put off by weather many times, so we ended up waiting a long time for it - we contracted with them in April and they installed it in August. The day they wanted to pave, their supplier had a breakdown and they had to put it off a week. We asked if there was anyplace else they could get asphalt. He said "we could, but we don't like the other places' quality, and you're not going to get as good a driveway." We respected that. Hiring them was totally worth it. The driveway is beautiful. We love it. It is smooth, gradually tapers from the road to the garage. There are no visible seams even though there are a few pretty wide parts. They did a fabulous job. We would recommend Winton Paving, and would hire them again in a minute.

The owner came out and to get him to come out took a few phone calls. He was not as prompt as other businesses. When he did come out he sat with me on my porch and was very, very professional and explained everything in depth. I was very impressed and I called him back that night saying that he had the job to pave the driveway because what he was saying made good sense to me. He had given me a quote and a business card. Two different scenarios with the driveway and said he couldn't tell which one would be appropriate for pricing until he actually did the work which all make sense to me. I asked him to send me out that information in contract form so that I could sign it and we could set a date. I waited a week and he said he would do it the next day, I waited more than a week and nothing arrived. So, I called him and he said that he sent it out to me through mail and told me he didn't know why I didn't get that and he said that he'll put another one in the mail tomorrow. Sure enough I wait another two weeks and nothing never arrived. I personally do not believe that he ever put something. He seems to have another business yard and landscape business as well and I don't have any problems with him not doing the job but I felt that I was definitely lied to and I think he reconsider doing the job but rather than saying he didn't wanna do the job he just hang me on for a number of weeks which postponed my getting driveway done till July because I was really waited to hear back from him, he was my first choice. So, I was extremely obviously very annoyed and very disappointed.

Replacing a driveway is a big and expensive project, and some contractors are wary of getting involved when the driveway is shared and they will have to negotiate with two homeowners. Mike Wilke of Winton Paving did a good job of communicating with both of us. On his initial visit to the property he explained in detail what the project would entail, what surprises could surface during the excavation stage, how he would deal with drainage, adjacent structures, and the weather. We had been advised that at the end of that initial meeting he would go back to his car and return with a business card on which he had written a very basic description of the job. And that's exactly what happened -- in this case "Complete dig-out, 6" - 8" base, apply 2 1/2" of fine top, $3540." He already had the job/cost divided between homeowners. His estimate was neither the lowest or the highest. However, his estimate was firm, he would deal with whatever he found beneath the existing black top. Other estimates provided that if a previous concrete drive or walkway turned up, the cost would go up significantly. He provided references to driveways he had done two or three years before. We checked them out. After a couple Rochester winters they were still in good condition. Some contractors only wanted to provide references for current projects. Once we agreed to go with Winton Paving Mike kept us informed about the start date. He returned calls promptly. When he was ready to start he provided a detailed formal contract, no changes from the business card estimate, but full construction detail, along with a very detailed sheet about care of a new black top driveway. Each stage of the project went quickly. The team showed up on time, worked carefully and quickly. During construction Mike was always on site, completely involved. The work had to be coordinated with installation of a stone fence and a new garage floor on one property, and it had to meet a large existing blacktop area on the other property. That went smoothly. The drainage was a issue as one property is slightly higher than the other and a door had to be accommodated on a side abutting the drive. After two years, delivery trucks, two winters, snow plowing, freeze and thaw cycles, the driveway looks like new. There have been no drainage problems. The driveway looks flat, but drains beautifully to the street. My dog dropped her ball at one side of the driveway and it rolled very slowly toward the center and very, very slowly all the way to the street. I would absolutely go back to Winton Paving for future projects.

Absolutely perfect from start to finish. Mike came out promptly and discussed the project and the possible options. The price was within guidelines and the work was completed in a timely manner. The crew consisted of professionals who are familiar with all aspects of paving. They are courteous, respectful of property, keep the worksite clean and care about the quality of work they perform. As a former construction superintendent it was a pleasure to watch a truly professional crew at work. Mike is forthright and honest, only a small section of base needed to be replaced which saved a substantial amount of money. I would recommend Winton Paving to anyone without reservation - they are a top notch organization.

The quote was $7580, they were the most expensive. They were on time. They just wrote their quote on a business card.

They were never engaged. They lost the opportunity to do business with me by not returning my call.

I searched all over the Rochester area for a total driveway over haul; full tear out and replace. I took the advice of friends and neighbors and called quite a few paving contractors but I never actually got anyone to give me a quote. I came here to Angies List, found Winton Paving and gave Mike a call. He came over to review the job and we discussed the complications of our driveway. We were having a large section of pavers done that would also be combined with the asphalt driveway. Both projects needed to be worked in together and Winton Paving/ MIke went out of his way to do the necessary excavation for the entire project. The tear-out of the original driveway was as deep as quoted, and the amount of gravel that was put in was also exactly as quoted. We waited the required time for the driveway to settle and Winton came back when scheduled later in the summer. The final coat of asphalt was perfect to the pavers that were already down and again, the quoted thickness-probably more. I'm extremely fussy about work that is done on my premises and I was onsite for the entire project from the dig out to the final work. I was always impressed by the experience of his entire crew and I am 100% satisfied with the result of my beautiful new driveway. "Thanks Mike!"

Workers arrived on day scheduled and completed the job by end of day. Price was less than originally quoted. I was amazed by the honesty when it was determined that the base was in good condition and it was not necessary to replace. I wouldn't have known the difference. I was very pleased with the work and the company.

They gave us a lot of helpful information. Also they had a competitive price and did high quality work. They were on time too.

Mike was the only bidder who discussed options for completion of this work. He also offered the best price. The work was performed (and paid for) in two stages, allowing several weeks for the crushed stone to settle before topping. On both visits, the work started promptly, the crew was courteous, and no damage to the building occurred even though clearance for the heavy equipment was very tight. I will use Winton Paving in the future and recommend them.

Mike came out in April to do the estimate. After talking to a couple other companies, I called and told him I'd like the work done in June. He started in June and completed it in early July, despite the rainy weather which created challenges in his scheduling. He was extremely responsive in returning phone calls and followed through in delivering what he had promised.

We like their professionalism. They took their time and were very careful. They laid the gravel driveway and recommended we drive on it so we didn't have problems in the future. It drains well and looks terrific.

I thought I might need a complete new paving job based upon what another company who does sealing as well as repaving had told me, so I made an appointment for another price estimate. He showed up exactly on time, looked over my driveway, and said crack filling and sealing would be good enough and should last a number of years. He does not do this so he referred me to another company. He easily could have sold ma a complete repaving.

Very good. The price was best out of all estimates. They came when they said. Most important was that the owner was on site at the project the whole time. Also, this was the only provider that suggested that the rock base sit for a month before having the aphsalt installed to allow for a complete settle. It was very apparent how this is an important step.

Winton Paving did a very good job on my driveway. They were on time and did it exactly how I wanted it. I would recommend them.
