It took me two days of constant fooling around on my own to completely mess up my entire system, it took David about an hour to sort it out and restore everything to working order. His working knowledge of the internet, devices and systems is amazing. He got my router, printer and new Chromebook talking to each other like they were family. I would use him again or reccomend him to anyone.

+ -1 moreTurns out I had some nasty viruses and he installed and gave me a better and still free mal ware. I had my computer back the next day!! Most impressive. Dave kept in contact with me during the day as he tweeked it and cleaned it up. I would recommend him highly!!
Description of Work: When I contacted Dave her gave me a few tips to follow to solve my own problem which was helpful to get in to the pc to get info I had to have for the next day or two. I needed further assistance and I arranged to met him and drop off my computer.

+ -1 moreI called Dave and he called me back that day and scheduled to come over the very next day. He was right on time and sat down to take a look at my laptop and described the problem to me in terms I could understand. He asked if he could take it with him and repair the problem. He called me the next night to tell me what the issue was and what the fix would be. Overall Dave was very honest, fair in his pricing, and easy to get a hold of. He always returned my phone calls and even took time to talk through the issues with my husband. I completely trust Dave and will always call him in the future to help out with our computers. He even created a back-up for me in case this issue happens again to my computer. He really went above and beyond for sure.
Description of Work: I had a Windows error on my laptop computer and it would turn on but get stuck on a screen telling me that a Windows file was corrupt and needed to be repaired.

He definitely is extremely well versed and easy to work with. He is coming back soon to back up the info on my computer. He has also answered a few questions I have emailed him about. I would definitely recommend Dave to anyone looking for someone to work on their computer.

+ -1 moreIt was great. He called to confirm the time he was to arrive. After checking a few registry files, he made fixes, explaining what he was doing as he went. He then installed some free anti-malware and adware programs, showed me how to best use them and made sure that the PC was back to proper speed. All-in-all, he was at my home a little over an hour and charged just $40. He also said he was willing to talk me through any future problems over the phone. Very knowledgeable without being off-putting.
Description of Work: He de-bugged my PC, installed malware programs and repaired several registry errors.

Description of Work: David once again fixed my computer. This time it turned out I had a "rootkit" virus, and David had to consult with the online volunteer guru community. Fortunately for me, one of the gurus was interested in my problem, and gave Dave some suggestions for fixing it. Dave borrowed my computer for almost a week, gave me a loaner computer of his in the meantime, and only charged me for 2 hours of work. What a deal! Incidentally, he used his air compressor to blow out a few years of dust and debris from inside my computer.

+ -1 moreOne thing that is so great about Dave is that he'll speak to you at your level of understanding of computers, and he'll happily answer any questions you may have. (As a matter of fact, he encourages you to ask questions!) With Dave, you get a lot of bang for your buck! He charged me for 3 hours of work, yet worked several more than that! Overall, I am extremely happy and satisfied with the service that I received from Dave, and I will definitely hire him again in the future!!! I have (and also will) recommend him to my friends and family, with no reservations. Thank you, Dave! You rock!
Description of Work: My experience with David was great! He was on time, friendly, knowledgable and professional. He completely set up and configured a new desk top PC, a new laptop computer, a router, and a camera. He would have done the printer as well, but the one I had was not compatible with my new system. (When I did buy a new printer and had a minor problem linking all of my components together so that the fax and telephone would work, he talked me through the solution on my cell phone!) I was very concerned about saving data that was on my old computer, (which had become virtually worthless). No problem! He transferred data from my old hard drive to the new computer. He installed free antivirus software on both computers. Since I only have a trial period of MS Office, he installed software that is very similar to it, so that I'll have that capability when my trial period ends. Perfect! Dave also spoke to a customer service representative from Time Warner when he had trouble setting up a new way for me to access email from my Road Runner account. (MS Outlook is part of the MS Office Suite, which is how I have always accessed my email account. I will lose that ability.) After a lengthy back and forth, (due to an address change), he was able to retain my original email address that I'd had for years, without me having to go through Outlook! Lastly, he put a shortcut icon on my desktop, so that he can remotely assist me with any problems in the future.

He gave my father an invoice explaining all that he did to fix his computer. My father is very happy with how well his computer is working, and I appreciate the professionalism and courtesy
Description of Work: I found Dave Finger on Angie's list. I recommended that my father try him out for computer service, as his computer would not start up. My father is elderly and doesn't drive. Dave came the same day and picked up the computer. quoted him $120. He had the computer back to my father 24 hours later. He was very professional, punctual and friendly. He gave my father a 40G hard drive (used) that he had on hand- free of charge! He recovered most if not all of the C drive, updated windows, installed antivirus and several other performance programs. that my father was shown!

He even helped my son get his DS and WII on line, which made him a hero and a half to my son.

Description of Work: Computer was slow, acting erratically and came up with weird errors. I thought I had a virus. It turned out I didn't. Dave made some configuration changes, deleted some un-necessary programs and recommended I increase my RAM. Voila, computer works well now. Definitely a bargain.

+ -1 moreDavid Finger seems to have a great one-man evening-and-weekend computer-service business. And he makes house calls. He has a reasonable hourly rate, and only charged me for 2 of the nearly 3 hours he spent with me. It was well worth it. He re-set my anti-virus system to be more efficient, installed a free anti-spyware program that he recommended, cleaned out unnecessary stuff on my hard drive, downloaded and installed a program I had had trouble getting, researched and solved a problem of double icons on my desktop, and gave me lots of helpful tips along the way. He also uses a remote system where, if you call him with a problem, he can access your computer from wherever he is to solve your problem on the spot; this is pretty amazing, and very useful.
Description of Work: David Finger came to my house, checked out my laptop, removed unnecessary stuff from the computer, answered lots of my questions, and solved a number of problems with the computer.

After spending a few hours (that I was not charged for) diagnosing the problem, he removed the viruses (>60!), installed a new hard drive and reloaded the software and files from the old hard drive. He also installed better anti virus and anticipate software.

+ -1 moreI have an older PC running Windows 2000 that was running slowly. Dave controlled my computer remotely and talked with me over the phone while he did a tune-up and I watched. All along the way he talked with me about what he was doing and asked questions about how I used the computer (e.g., which programs/features I used daily, which I never used, etc.). He removed stuff I didn't need from the startup list, cleaned up the desktop, cleaned up the registry, installed free security software, showed me how to use everything, and generally streamlined everything for me. He gave me advice about security procedures and also suggested I get more memory. The whole process was a piece of cake. Dave didn't charge me for this because he was looking for someone to help him test out new software for remotely accessing a client's desktop. We both came out happy.

+ -1 moreIt was fabulous. I live in Boston and found Dave through Angie's List. I hired him to do this work for my sister who lives in Rochester and is mostly baffled by technology. He talked with me first to get the scope of the job, then talked with her to set up the appointment. He was very responsive and thoughtful during this process. At her place, he checked out the new internet service that was installed recently by a cable company. He installed security software and a good browser; set up new mail service and brought over the address book; installed viewers for other types of files; did an overall tune up for system health; adjusted the screen settings for best viewing; and made recommendations for component upgrades in the future. On top of all that, he explained everything and helped my sister write down instructions for various tasks so she can get the most out of her new, improved system. Then he wrote me a very detailed report about what he had accomplished. I couldn't have been happier.
Description of Work: Dave made a house call to set up a PC for high speed internet, tune it up, and do some user training.
