I called Taylor Heating & Air Conditioning because we have used them before for a furnace. They came out the next day, the technician checked the flow of water, the drains were running fine; corrosion within the 15 yr old toilet was the problem. We ran into a problem with the new toilet fitting over the area of the old toilet, but the technician took measurements and found a retailer that had the exact size we needed. The technician was polite and friendly, he walked us through the whole process and explained everything he was doing. His main concern was that we were pleased with our choice. Even when he discovered that the plastic piece covering where the toilet seat attaches had a small crack, he told us and then replaced it. He was an honest man. We really appreciate this company and all they have helped us with.

At the time I called them they had an A average on Angie's List, and Angie's List had sent me an email recommending them. I won't trust another email from Angie's List. The tech showed up on time and seemed nice. I told him I was new to the area and had an old unit that would need to be replaced this Fall. I was trying to get through the summer when it stopped working. I also had a water heater that was in need of replacement. I suspected a capacitor or switch since my old unit in another state had the same problems a couple of years ago. He right away told me a new a/c unit would be "about $7,500" to replace both the a/c condenser and the water heater before even looking at either one of them or the inside of the house. I was suspicious, but figured it was just the way people are up here. He looked at the unit and said the capacitor was bad. A new one was $170 - which seemed like a lot of markup for a $50 part, but I let him install it. He said he would check the freon when he was done. I went inside to let him work and saw a big white cloud outside the window. I went back out to see what was wrong and he was enveloped in a cloud of freon. I told him he probably just let all the freon out of my unit, and he said, "yeah, that's going to cost another $500 to replace it". No apologies. No shock at being caught. He looked me in the eye when he said it, and I pointed out I had never seen more than a wisp of freon escape when being checked in the past. He just smiled. I was angry, but figured it was best to just pay him and get him out of my yard before I lost my temper. Before the capacitor went out I was able to keep the house around 75º without running all the time to keep it there. After this idiot released my freon it wouldn't hold 80º and never shut off. He also violated multiple regulations for releasing over two pounds of freon directly into the air. Since it was right next to an open window in my living room it could have created a life threatening hazard if the wind had been blowing from the west. He committed the crime of theft for intentionally releasing the freon in order to charge me for replacing it. Not to mention the potential health issues he was exposing himself to with such reckless behavior. No professional do what he did. He then acted mad when I reminded him of the Angie's List coupon when he charged me for the capacitor and the service call. He's lucky he didn't say anything since he was inside my house by then. I don't know how the rest of the company operates, but this guy was worthless and a thief. I will never use them again, and I don't know how they stay in business. I called another company with good reviews, and they provided me with a complete system from Trane as well as a new water heater for less than this schmuck quoted me from the front sidewalk. By all means use Taylor if you want to be overcharged and get terrible service. Otherwise shop around. I did get a follow-up call over a month later from them. The person acted shocked and apologized repeatedly, but never offered so much as a partial refund for the problems, or the horrible behavior by their employee. To me, this shows the problem is systemic within this company. What company would want to keep employing someone who rips off customers unless it's part of their work plan? I've had at least thirty annual service calls and five new central air installs in the last thirty years living in the south. I thought I had seen every trick in the book. This New York company wins the ignoble prize for brash in-your-face ripoffs and bad service. Let's hope they don't show up on my property again.

Late on a Saturday night we realized our air conditioner was not working; I called Taylor Heating, because of the late hour and their policy of not working on air conditioners at night we set up an appointment for Sunday. This was ok with us; they arrived at the appointed time and fixed the problem within an hour. We have been very pleased with the service and prompt response to any of our calls.

- Opens and answers service calls early (7am). - Provided same day service during my lunch hour. Called me 15 min before technician arrived so I could get home in time. - Pleasant, smart technician. - Respected indoor space: wore booties, took care to put them on/off whenever coming in/out - Diagnosed problem, then gave me 3 levels of care (required to get AC running, recommended to keep AC running for next ~5 yrs, and top of the line). Provided cost estimates before starting work. - Had parts in the van and completed work within 1.5 hrs. Plus, saved $84.99 with the Angie's List coupon by foregoing the diagnostic fee. I'm very happy and will use this company again.

The energy assessment went well and the specialist seemed to be very knowledgeable but the specialist still hasn't returned to present the report to us. Additionally, he spotted a small gas leak in our basement but hasn't provided an estimate or scheduled a follow-up to have it fixed. The follow up meeting was scheduled originally for November 1st, but he had to cancel the morning of the meeting. The rescheduled meeting was November 8th, but he never showed up and never called.

The technician arrived promptly and was meticulous in his check out and maintenance of the furnaces. He asked whether I wanted the humidifiers inspected and maintained and advised me of what I thought was an excessive charge (over half the cost of maintaining the furnaces!) for this, given that I had my own media elements and if the humidifiers required no repair I'd be charged just to replace the media, which I am capable of doing myself! I asked whether the quoted furnace maintenance price included the cost of the filters for the Aprilaire. He said no and quoted a price twice that I pay for these filters on-line. I told him to use the ones I have. I mentioned that in previous servicing the Taylor technician noticed that one of the ionization wires (part# 4315 Ionizing Wire) was broken and the previous technician said he would look into replacing it, but never got back to me. Later, the current technician reported that after inspection of both furnaces and and consulting with the office, there would be a $200 charge for the broken wires and a $45 re-visit charge to install them. I went ballistic and declined this repair! More on this later). The technician finished the job, was very neat and courteous, and I paid the previously agreed price for the visit. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The rest of this review deals with my discussions with 'the boss' at Taylor. He called me within 15 minutes of my call to his office. I expressed my outrage at having to pay for SIX broken ionizing wires on two cleaners, specifically recommended by Taylor as 'top of the line', when Taylor installed them three years ago. The boss told me 'stuff happens' and that I have required no other repairs to which I said I would hope not given the newness of the furnaces (4 and 3 years old) and that the newest was the very top of the line, per Taylor Heating. (I might have facetiously replied these were furnaces, after all, and not Saturn rocket engines!) Taylor then consulted with Aprilaire, who agreed to replace the ionizing wires at no charge (under the 5 year warranty) and Taylor said he would charge me only $65 to install them (attach the wire eyelets to the prongs on the frames). I agreed, feeling trapped. NOTE : I believe Taylor is acting according to 'standard industry practices', which has high hourly labor rates and at least 100% mark-up on parts. I do not hold this against Taylor and I have not reduced their rating one bit for this. And I appreciate their contacting Aprilaire on my behalf, albeit only after I balked at paying. But I strongly suggest anyone who will needs 'consumables' in periodic plumbing type repairs buy these items (most preferably on-line) and save big-time. In this case savings were $30 per filter, $17 per ionization wire (vs. Taylor's asked price), and $8 per humidifier pad.
Description of Work: Having two furnaces, one installed three years ago by Taylor Heating, we wanted a seasonal check and maintenance of the furnace systems before the heating season. (We also have two furnace mounter Aprilaire humidifiers and two built-in Aprilaire 5000 electronic dust precipitators.)

I was very unhappy with them. I feel they overcharged me for the furnace, and there was a disagreement about the 10% discount that they said they would give me, because I paid cash, and then they also told me that there was a rebate of $700 on my old furnace, but they did not tell me that there was a time limit on the rebate, so I didn't get it on time, because they told me they would take care of everything. I finally called them, and they said I had to do that, and it turned out I didn't get $700 rebate, I got $300, but that is not the point. The point is the time limit. My air conditioner is gone, and I called them, and they gave me a high estimate, so I called someone else. I am very unhappy with them. The price was way too high.
Description of Work: They put in my furnace a month ago, but I have been dealing with them for the past month, because there is dripping and leaking, which apparently is from the air conditioner, so they gave me a high price.

Technician called me 30 minutes prior to showing up as I requested. He checked the furnace then proceed out to A/C unit. While in the house he alway put on the house he always put on this shoe overs. After proceeding outside he discovered teh issue within minutes. He had to replace my starter capacitor and since my unit was old he suggested a hard start capacitor to protect my starter capacitor, all new units come with both. He stated you only need this if you have a high draw of amps on start. So he proceeded to test and found my draw was high and I needed to get a hard start capacitor. I appreciated his honesty with me. after replacing everything he cleaned out my A/C which i thought was a little expensive but the A/C definitely needed to be cleaned. All in all a good trip and A/C is working perfectly now.

The system is running the best it has in many years. There is noticeably better air flow and better dust trapping. It was much more economical to sign up for a regular service since our A/C will be needed soon and that needs to be checked out. The repair man was professional, knowledgeable and responsive.
Description of Work: The fan seized up on our forced air system. After a day of not hearing back from the first place we called, we called in desperation on Mother's Day. They came out and not only replaced the fan motor (a 3 hour job) but cleaned out the furnace and fixed a few other venting issues.

I had an emergency call as my furnace stopped working on a very, very cold windy day. Les was at my house within 1 hour. He diagnosed the problem, replaced my thermostat with one of the products they carry (which was great. I chose it over the one I already had purchased to install) and gave me lots of helpful information. I will most definitely use them again and recommend to family and friends as they were efficient, professional and personable and the price was far better than other quotes I had. They are my new go to HVAC company!

They came out twice within a couple of days. First our furnace would not stay on, so they came out on short notice to fix it. They did a quick and efficient job, so while they were here we scheduled them to come back and fix some leaking pipes. Again they arrived on time, we're quick, efficient, and professional. Very well. He didn't recommend actually changing the valve (at additional cost) because it tested OK and gave a plausible reason for its intermittent problem. He clearly knew what he was doing and gave me additional tips and freely answered questions that I had. I would both recommend Taylor's but while your there, ask for Les (the serviceman who took care of my furnace)! Oh and at this time they offered a free diagnostic coupon. They allowed me to email the coupon since I didn't have a printer handy! Saved me $79.95!
