Initially, I was impressed because it was Anderson, they made a compelling case in terms of their cost and efficiency so I signed on, In New York, you have a 3 day period in which you can reverse your decision if you wish, I did not have time to check out the alternatives of that windows, when I did, I discovered there might in fact a better value in terms of alternatives. My initial opinion was hey Anderson was top, he set a standard for the whole window industry, as it happens, when I looked closely 3 days later beyond the grace period, Anderson that year was no longer rated top so there were better rated windows that were available but it was too late to cancel. I definitely feel that if anybody is getting into windows, you have to sit down and look at your alternatives and talk about them and don't be pressured by the salesman because the salesmen are very high pressure, frankly, including the guy who sold me these windows. He's very nice guy but he was determined to make a quote that night and get me to sign the papers his excuse was if you don't like, you can cancel within 3 days, I just didn't have time in those 3 days that went through.

We had a very bad experience withe them. I went to them because the windows in our house were old so we looked at the windows that they had an I said "OK great. This looks good." So they said they would send a guy out. So he came out and sat at our kitchen table and said "We just want to start with the windows." He told us that they cant just shift 3 windows because the truck has to make a big trip from one place to another and that we were going to have to buy more. We have a big house so I asked how many more we needed to buy. So we bought about 6 windows. Because this is an old house the previous owners had special locks put on the windows that allowed you to lock them in an open position so you have have breeze coming in. I told him to hold off on the windows until he tells me if we can have those locks on them. He went into the hall and looked at our windows and told us yes we can. So they came in and they put in the windows but the invoice I read said that we couldn't drill any holes in the windows and I reminded them that we wanted the locks put in, the kind with a key that hooks into a circle and they said that the procedure disagrees with the warranty. These were the windows we've used all the time and I would like to have the locks on our bedroom window to keep it open because we're on the first floor. Now we cant have the windows open when we sleep. Whatever they said it costed was fine. I got the color windows I wanted I got the old bronze locks that I wanted for the room it was going in. But I complained about my other issues.

My biggest problem with them is their sales tactics. They're kind of like bullies. They've got a nice product but they wanted way too much for it. They wanted $35000 to replace windows in my house and I almost fell off my chair. Maybe rich people can afford that but somebody like me isn't going to afford that. It's not going to make my house worth anything more and people normally get their windows replaced for $10000 to $12000 to recuperate their energy. For a company with a good name and reputation I was very disappointed. I don't ride my window around and I don't enjoy it in any special way so I figured that I'm going to be stupid and spend $35000 on windows.

I've had mixed experiences with them. They were very misleading on scheduling and very high pressure on the sales. I was very pleased with the installation and the follow up. I was not pleased with the scheduling and initial sales. They were pretty pricey, but the product was worth it. I would possibly use them again.

It was a poor visit. It was pushy and when they realized we weren't ready to commit that day he abruptly left and would not give us a written quote. We agreed to the visit because they would give us a $500 coupon on a whole home purchase for replacement windows and they refused to give us this certificate when they were at the residence. We had an experience with Renewal that started out reasonably and ended very distastefully. I was impressed with the quality of the product offered but entirely turned off by both the exorbitant cost and the sales approach. I imagine that if money were no object, and we simply acquiesced to every suggestion made, we'd have a pleasant experience. However, from the moment it became clear to the sales rep that we were on a budget, the situation deteriorated. Let me be clear: I don't doubt that these are high quality windows, and I don't doubt that they should be in the upper range of price points. However, I do doubt (with the assurance of trusted contractors who've been in the business for many years) the extremity of cost involved here. $26k for 17 windows. (By comparison, we've had three estimates that average less than half of this for Andersen replacement windows. Yeah, I know they're not the same composite material. But let's get real here. These are windows, not Porsches.) The price, while ridiculous, was not the most significant turnoff. The sales rep who visited us, while polite and pleasant enough on a personal level, became increasingly aggravating as he slogged through his two hour plus demonstration, which was full of clearly manipulated data and laughable charts and graphs. My wife and I are both highly educated professionals, and we both kept smiling and sharing knowing glances during this song and dance, because we both felt we were being spoken to like children. When the rep moved from offering the details of financing possibilities--which would have been perfectly fine--to a patronizing editorial about leveraging home-equity options, it became too much. All in all, though, we laughed off the experience and found the rep to be harmless enough, if a bit sketchy in some of his anecdotes and suggestions. The real problem--when this went from a funny story to tell friends to something that elevated my blood pressure--was the followup calls. It's important to note that these came from a sales manager, not from the rep who visited our home. During the first followup call, I told him thank you, but we weren't interested in the product. He went on to push, suggesting that a great discount would be available to us if we proceeded. I told him thanks but no thanks, pretty clearly. He then called again. Perhaps experiencing amnesia, I thought perhaps I hadn't made myself clear the last time, and told him our decision again. In fact, I told him that we had decided to go with another option. That's when he said to me, "Oh, that's really too bad." I will not describe the rest of the phone call from there. It's also worth echoing what the other commenters have offered plenty of anecdotal accounts of the rudeness of the sales reps about scheduling appointments, making sure both spouses are home, et cetera. One would think this was a matter of national security with the multiple layers of scheduling assurance. One is also left wondering if this company's management doesn't understand that customers owe them nothing. Canceling an appointment is entirely the prerogative of a customer. I can't imagine what might have happened if I'd tried to cancel last minute. I'd likely have the quality of my character questioned. To summarize the experience briefly, this is a company that employs patronizing, pushy, and annoying methods. Their windows might be the key to world peace, but their business tactics would entirely eliminate any chance of reaching it.
Description of Work: Estimate provided.

We had a very good experience with the Renewal people, out of Rochester. A total of 8 windows, our entire second floor, were removed and replaced with Renewal by Anderson. The selection was varied and we were able to get exactly what we wanted. Installation was completed in one day, by a two man crew. Since completed we are pleased with the performance of the windows, and would like to do the entire first floor. The first floor requires several very large windows and while we did have an estimate for that also we choose to delay that work for a few years.

The man canvasing the neighborhood was so aggressive and pushy. did not even believe it was legitimate product. Why would Anderson Windows need to randomly canvas when one in our neighborhood or area were getting windows done. The sales guy wanted to come inside and see our windows that are less than 15 yr old high end windows. I felt uneasy and said no and said we did not need new windows. Since that time ...3 days ago...we have been phoned over 3 times. Callers have left messages indicating they were going to come to our property to measure anyhow...even though we said no to their initial push and NEVER initially contacted them. All this aggression, made me think that they were scoping us for a robbery. I think it is just lousy sales tactics. If the harassment continues we are calling the authorities. I would NOT trust these people to set a reputable price or give good service. This aggression resembles criminal activity for a reason!!!

They claimed to be looking for someone, but got my phone 'by mistake'...twice! In fact this is a sales tactic. I know because I found the person they claimed to call and (1) her phone number is off by three numbers; (2) They canvassed her neighborhood recently and have been following up with her even after she said she already had a window installer. I could go on, but what's the point. Caveat emptor! Do your homework before you do business with this firm.
Description of Work: I have been cold called twice in two days by these misrepresenting canvassers. What they did was lie to me. Even if they had the best windows in the world, I wouldn't deal with people with such deceptive business practices.

I wanted to know the name of the sales rep that came to my house. Due to his demeanor, temper & asking personal question, I am very apprehensive of him and wanted to know his name. The sales rep knows I am an older lady and don't have a husband here so I just want to protect myself. It's a real shame that anyone should even feel that way especially being a senior citizen! The marketing manager James told me his name is Chris Gold and that he (James) can reassure me that Chris would not do anything retaliatory (the reason I wanted to get the sales rep's name in case it would be needed). No one could possibly ever promise reassurance because no one knows what is in other people's minds and he's not God! I should have read Angieslist reviews before making an appointment and then I would have known for sure to not have any sales rep come here. All you need to do is just read the reviews for 9/7/13, 9/3/13, 8/9/13, 5/1/13, 1/10/12, 11/29/11, 2/28/13, 3/18/13 and see many of the same complaints....."rudeness" "walked out in a huff" "silly questions" "wasting my time" "way too long" more "rudeness" etc. Because I questioned something that Chris stated that I knew to be untrue, he felt that I was not going to be a "for sure" buyer. I told him that I was reading some things about windows to know more. A couple of minutes later when he asked me a personal question that definitely was not needed, I told him so and told him that I don't have to answer personal questions, didn't feel comfortable with that question and didn't want to be here for extra hours if he was going to continue with that type of questioning. He got huffy, took his case and while he was walking out I told him, "Thank you, so I now know that I wouldn't want to deal with this company because this shows me how it would be to deal with them." (customer service). I told James that this is on the company's shoulders for not training the employees correctly. The sales rep is just trying to do a job and make a commission and I understand that fully. The company management should read all Angieslist reviews and clean up their style so they can seem more ethical. James said Angieslist reviews are just taken with a grain of salt by them/him. I told him customers rely on these reviews because people can write exactly what they like and/or don't like about a company. That's the reason we subscribe......Including checking out all companies, contractors, etc., etc. who are looked at by us before we hire. Note: Also, the sales person at the home show was extremely rude when I closed the window on display & my fingers slipped off the sloping top rail part and ripped my nails across my finger tips! I left then so I wouldn't continually be verbally bashed ("your own fault" -stated to me very sarcastically) and because I was in pain since my nails ripped into the fleshy tips & were bleeding (real nails not fake). It really amazes me how some young people talk and don't even care or have any respect or conscience!
Description of Work: Provider (sales rep) didn't follow up with any info on the windows, etc. that I would need to know to make a purchase. He came to my house and left within a few minutes in a huff because I had some questions and said that I read something that differed with what he stated! He then became confrontational and asked if I was calling him a liar! All in the first minutes!

A salesman came to our door, perhaps sensing or knowing that we were new to the neighborhood. My wife answered and, even though we weren't thinking of doing any work now figured it might be good to get an estimate for a couple of windows that may need work down the road. They called us and we made an appointment for a Saturday morning. Saturday comes and we have a family issue that forces us to cancel the appointment. I call the 800 number and someone answers (with laughter in the background). I proceed to tell him that we had a family issue come up and we need to postpone the appointment. His very next words to me in a dry, condescending tone..."You're canceling?! An hour before the appointment?!" "Well, yes", I replied since family emergencies don't schedule themselves around Andersen Windows. He asked when he could call to reschedule and I told him that, given their disregard for our situation, actually, we won't need them to call us...ever. This was by far the most shockingly rude sales experience I have ever had with a company. I don't care if their windows are the key to world peace...Andersen will never set foot in our house.

We signed up at the Buffalo Home Show for a free estimate in exchange for $750 in coupons on new windows. Their marketing group called me ~5 times trying to set up a time for a sales rep to come to our house. I finally agreed and they made the appointment after first transferring me to a supervisor to ensure that both my husband and I would be there, although they never said why we both had to be there. The appointment was scheduled for a few days later, and the sales rep showed up right on time. That's when everything went completely down hill--the sales rep pulled out a binder 5 inches thick filled with a bunch of sales pitch nonsense, including financial projections that said the cost to heat and cool my home would rise from the current average of $150/month to over $1,200/month within the next ten years. That's ridiculous! And a total scare tactic. The marketing department never told me how much time to allot for the sales call (I should have asked, but I had no idea what I was signing up for), and the sales rep was not accommodating at all even though we told him from the beginning that we didn't have much time, and we were trying to juggle a one-year-old during the entire appointment. After about 1.5 hours, we told him as nicely as we could that we couldn't continue--we had to do dinner, bath time, etc. for our daughter. He wanted to come back later after we put her to bed. We told him we couldn't, and instead asked him to just drop off an estimate since he had all the information he needed (measurements, window types, etc.), but he refused to just drop off an estimate. Instead, he got pretty huffy, and said that marketing would have to call us again to set up another appointment. He wouldn't even give us an estimate for the one window that we really needed replaced. He gave us no prices for anything. This was a colossal waste of time, and a total scam.
Description of Work: Sales rep came out for an estimate, but the sales pitch took way too long, so we never even got to hear a price.
