I met a salesman from Options For Your Home, located in Spencerport, NY at a local home show and was impressed with him. He came to our home to examine the bathroom and come up with a proposal for the job. Fortunately, I asked for a break down of costs that proved to be handy at the end. At our selection meeting we were very specific about everything and especially how the flooring was to be installed and the exact toilet we wanted. We neglected to get the item numbers and important details in writing. We were assured things would go as we requested. It was almost 2 months from the selection date to project start after several not-returned phone calls and emails. We finally set a project start date and demolition took 2 days. The guy made a mess and left trails of debris from the bathroom to the front door. After demolition was completed, we learned that they did not have the tub, surround, toilet and vanity top yet. We purchased the Vanity and Medicine cabinet ourselves. They did, however have the flooring. It was discussed at length at our selection meeting that the floor tiles would be installed on the diagonal and with grout. The installer refused to do that and installed on the straight with no grout. We expressed our displeasure and were told it would be fixed. It wasn't. We found out that the owner of the company only called a day before demolition to order the tub, toilet and vanity top when he in fact had over a 6 week lead time to order things. They decide to start the demolition before product was available so that it appeared that work was being done. When the tub and toilet finally arrived, they placed the toilet base next to the tub surround and asked if I thought the color matched. I agreed the colors matched. I was led to believe that the toilet they brought was the one I specified. Only after the entire toilet was installed at near completion of the bathroom did I discover it was not the toilet I ordered but a much lower end model which was evident by the poor flush. We have the exact toilet we requested in another bathroom in our house. At this point I was told the toilet is a non returnable item and that it was a better model that what I chose. A simple trip online doing a price check proved otherwise. They still insisted it was a better toilet. It still is lousy. We are impressed with the Veritek bathtub. It is deep, roomy and seems solid. The drywall and paint work is atrocious. The compound was not sanded well in numerous spots. Our contract said they would use Sherwin-Williams paint and they tried to use a store name brand. Luckily they got caught on that one. The paint job, however, is terrible. The painter neglected to cover a custom oak cabinet, Vanity top and tub resulting in paint spray everywhere. The paint is very thin in areas and will require us to apply an addition even coat of paint. The faucets are not what we had picked out. The sink faucet was improperly installed and they tried to pass off a peerless showerhead, that has already broken, as a Moen. The paint was not even dry on the walls when I received an email demanding final payment. I replied, stating our displeasure in the job telling of things still needing to be done. This is where the breakdown of costs came in handy. They tried to charge us for multiple thing that were either not done, not done right or we purchased separately. The workers did not treat our home with respect. Things were damaged and tried to be covered up. We were forced to replace all the wood moldings in the bathroom due to the carelessness in removal and painting. This is a project we were more than capable of doing ourselves but decided to hire it out thinking it would be take less time and be less frustrating. We were wrong. The project took longer than it would have for us, it was much more frustrating and we incurred extra costs due to their poor workmanship and work ethics. The owner of the company offer no apologies or concern for us, only excuses for his workers and lies to cover his mistakes. I would not recommend this company owner or any of his businesses to anyone.
