Description of Work: February 2011 completely gutted bathroom including drywall and installed all new including tub & shower, vanity & sink, toilet bowl, shower doors and ceramic flooring. They were there everyday on time and completed the work in a timely fashion. A couple small problems I had they promptly addressed to my satisfaction. I would definitely use them again.

Description of Work: At this time they are installing a new window over my kitchen sink. I saw this in a magazine and Ray Mallo went to lengths to have it specially made for me and it will be installed before the holidays. The window was delievered today and it is awsome. Just like i wanted. Mallo really works with the customers and they will give their opinion if something can or can't be done. At the same time i am haveing three interior doors changed to frosted glass. All three are in my foyer and Mallo has done this in my upstairs and they look so terrific that i decided to do it down on the first floor. I love working with Mallo because there are times when things can't possibly be done and Mallo will tell you. This is so nice to have people like them. All of their people are great to have working in your home. I do have animals and Mallo's people always make sure outside doors are closed and all animals are accounted for. Too funny but it is true my animals love Mallo's people also. So yes i will always use Mallo Home Improvements they do the complete job.

{removed member name}, I apologize about the estimate. We fell behind on getting our estimates out. I am still working on it. It is a very big and detailed job. The companies I send over to get quotes from are behind in their quotes back to us too. I wanted to give you an accurate estimate. If you are still interested, I would be happy to provide you with the estimate. Again, I apologize for the delay. Thank you, Dave Mallo

Description of Work: I replaced a jacuzzi tub and small shower with a larger tiled shower. I LOVE it! I worked with Ray who was wonderful to deal with. Everyone was professional and friendly. I would have given quality an A- if possible. Some of the drywall in the closet did not smooth out quite as nice. Otherwise, great job. I also had them do a small tile project in my kitchen. This also turned out great. Their pricing came in much below other estimates. I would hire them again.

We had our old shower base taken out, along with the tiles and walls, and had a new one put in. We also asked them to patch some places on the walls and had them smooth out our living room and kitchen ceilings.

We had excellent service with this company. They were timely, cleaned up all the mess and work was excellent. One small problem with sink draining slowly they came back immediately and fixed. All it needed was a minor adjustment to the pop up drain plug. We were so happy with them we referred them to our daughter who had bathroom work as well as new exterior doors installed. She was also very happy with their service.

Project took three months to complete from start to final completion. The estimate was three weeks. Since this is the only bathroomin the house (there is a toilet in the basement), they were quick to get the toilet in. The shower took a little longer (relied onshowering at friends' homes for a few weeks). The bulk of the work was done in a month and the remaining two months were smaller projects that did not inhibit bathroom usage. The bathroom sink to a couple months to get. That was an inconvenience. The look of the bathroom is nice. Compared to what it was, the functionality and overall comfort improved drastically. It's the details where the problems arise. A wall was damaged in the staircase and it was not patched. All of the caulked areas cracked within three months of usage, including around the entire shower base (allowing water to seep in) and around the sink. Friends and family who see this either say is was old caulk or it was cheap. The overhead fan/light rattles. The first fan that was installed did this and they returned it and replaced it with a new one. The new one rattles. I will be replacing it myself with a different brand. Light fixtures. I asked where the light fixture went (the one that was replaced with the fan) repeatedly and didn't receive an immediate response. Finally I was told that it was thrown out. It was a vintage fixture that matched all the other fixtures in the house. Then one day during the remodel I noticed the vintage light fixture over the medicine cabinet was replaced by a cheap plastic replica. When I asked about that I was told it broke and they replaced it. I don't understand why I wouldn't have been told that it broke upfront so I could have had a say in picking out the new fixture. And I was annoyed that two antique pieces were damaged during the process. It seemed like they were hoping I wouldn't notice. The new plumbing leaks and has caused damage on my living room ceiling. Three months after the bathroom was completed, water poured through the ceiling and into the living room. They were quick to come see what the problem was. My hair was getting caught where the new and old pipes meet and caused a clog that made the bottom of the shower base flood and leak onto the ceiling of the living room. They patched the hole that was made in the ceiling and told me to draino the pipes. I use draino frequently and snake the pipes, but there is still evidence of new water damage. I plan to have the plumbing work inspected by someone else because I should not have to be doing this with a bathroom that is not even a year old. I also suspect the cracked caulk is not helping the leaking situation. The area has been recalked. Painting. I was told all original walls, chair rail and medicine cabinet would be sanded before painting. The sanding did not happen and the blemishes that were painted over just look sloppy and hard to miss. I asked why this didn't occur but didn't receive an answer. I know I could have pushed harder in making them deal with some of these issues. But honestly I was just done with having them in my house. I would rather pay to have someone else fix the issues than have to continue to deal with the company.
Description of Work: Complete renovation of bathroom. The bathroom was probably original to the house (built in 1925). Clawfoot bathtub, hardwood floors, plaster walls, large porcelain sink. Due to a slanted wall and a small space, my only option was to remove the tub and make a walk-in shower. The wood floors were replaced with tile. The bottom-half of the bathroom walls were replaced with subway tile. The other half was painted. The shower walls (including ceiling) and "bench" are tiled. For the base, a Jacuzzi brand white shower base was used. Insulation was added to the outside walls. New window was installed. New sink and toilet were installed. Both are a better fit for the small size of the room. Kept built-in medicine cabinet and bathroom fixtures.

Thank you for giving us the opportunity to work with you on your bathroom project. I understand that during projects, different issues arise that are beyond our control, i.e.: the sink. The manufacturer was unable to get us the sink in a timely manner which held up completing your project in time. This becomes frustrating to all of us. I am sorry that you felt like you could not call me back regarding the other concerns that you have listed. These are things I would have resolved with you under our warranty. Please feel free to contact me so we can try to satisfy these issues. Regards, Raymond Mallo President Mallo Home Improvements

Overall, i would use them all over again and because i have used them for several years, i really do not have any don'ts about Mallo Home Improvements.. they always give you the price up front without any hidden costs. They in their contracts tell you exactally what they will be doing, how long it will take approx.
Description of Work: I have had Mallo Home Improvements do remodeling in my home for many years. all of their installers are always punctual, professional, and kept my home very clean, during and cleaning up after. I had them put on a beautiful sunroom which looks out into my gardens, then this summer i had them put on a beautiful deck with lights which just completes the outside. In the inside of my home they remodeled all of my bathrooms and put in granite counter tops in all of them and new vanities. They remodeled my kitchen, cabinets, counter top (granite) , plumbing, lighting and rearranging the foot print of the existing kitchen to make it more modern and user friendly. Mallo did all cherry hardwoods in office, dining room and family room, they then did ceramic flooring in foyer, mud room and throughout kitchen and sun room. All matching and beautiful.all of these floors flow together. They took out stipple (popcorn) ceilings and replaced with smooth ones with no mess at all. Installed recessed lights throughout house. this is a definite do for anyone that has older houses. I had cedar siding on my house for the longest time. It was hard to keep up with staining and keeping the bugs away. Mallo suggested putting vinyl siding on my house and at first i didn't know if i wanted to do that, but they showed me product and actually took me to a few houses that had that kind of siding on it and i was convinced. When they were finished, i said to them i wished i had done it sooner. No more problems and the outside looks outstanding. My house is large and i never had any really areas to store stuff which we all have. Mallo again suggested building beautiful cupboards throughout the basement and now my stuff is behind closed doors in beautiful tall cupboards. I then wanted a laundry room, but i also wanted a bathroom in the basement. So Mallo put in a beautiful laundry room with a folding table, which everyone should have, but also a bathroom in the basement. They then remodeled part of the basement for a family room with beautiful custom entertainment center with granite counter top because i have an aquarium and wanted to put it on something in case it leaked. up in the family room they custom built a large entertainment center, and a place for over 300 DVD's. Then i thought i was through, but my house is old and i had all brick fireplace. I covered up all of it and did slate tiles and a beautiful mantel to match the entertainment center.

The owner was friendly and professional. But it appears that he didn't communicate our (very explicitly stated) intentions to his workman. Consequently, we needed to look over the contractor's shoulder constantly, often intercepting him as was in the midst of building something entirely different than what we asked for. Sometimes we were too late; this same contractor destroyed part of the original fixture we'd intentionally saved to be reused, cutting it into pieces because he couldn't be bothered to clarify the intended final product with us. The concrete work in the basement was also sloppy, as subsequent contractors have explained. In general, the lack of communication between the owner and his employee was deeply frustrating, as was the employee's own lack of interest in really understanding the job he was doing. We would not use them again.
Description of Work: 1) Removed 1950s combo sink/dishwasher and replaced with custom-designed drainboard sink/dishwasher unit. 2) Installed plumbing in basement for new shower/tub.

When I spoke to the owners of the company and picked out what I would like them to do I thought it was going to be an easy do. We discussed how the roof would be taken off and put back together as well as the wall being removed. I picked out the counter top, the cabinets the hardware and even a ceramic tile for the back splash. What I did not expect was the workers that came to do the job. They would come late around 10 or 11 o'clock in the morning and leave around two in the afternoon. I realized I was paying for a job and not the hour. When the roof was removed I figured they would have been there around 6 to 7 o'clock in the morning because there was rain in the forecast. That did not happen they came around 10 in the morning and ended up working till seven in the evening. And yes it did rain inside my family room. I held my tongue. As the job continued they would show up later in the morning and talk about leaving to go fishing. Which they did 90% of the time. In my opinion these workers put the company's name in a bad performance rating. They were messy, did not pick up as the owner thought they should have. And they did not have the overall respect for my property. The vehicles they used leaked oil and or anti-freeze. I had put blankets over my new deck railings and they still scratched them up. When I told the owner about it he stated I needed to speak to his workers instead. The cabinets and the hardware were exactly as I ordered. The counter top was made by a a company that makes Corian counter tops and sinks. They were extremely professional. They laid moving mats on my floor and installed my counter tops quickly and efficiently. I even had to have them come back out to add a support which they did with efficiency. I also had to have the contractors from Mallo come back because the screws were popping through the ceiling. Again this was after the entire room was painted and furnished. They hammered back the screws and muddied over them. They did some what cover my furniture. I asked who was going to paint the ceiling and they stated they do not do that. When I talked to the owner of the company I asked him to reimburse me for having someone come in and paint, he stated to me that the paint job on the ceiling wasn't that great in the first place. In my opinion he was taking his employee's word for it. Regardless even if I had it stucco he probably would not have paid to have it repaired. He stated that he would have them come out and fix what needed to be fixed but he could not give me the money for the paint. I believe the reason the screws were popping through was because they were just doing it too quickly and not taking time with the quality their job warranted. They were more concerned with getting out of here to go fishing. As I stated earlier the owners of the company seemed very understanding of my need to have the roof replaced.( I had several estimates by other contractors but none of them got back to me to do the work) the only reason I chose this company was because they had been in business for so long. I figured longevity was a plus in today's day and age. I will say that the job did get done even if it was done half a##. This job lasted roughly 2 months. I did not contact any of their references because who would give you a reference if you knew it was going to be a bad one. When I spoke of this company to other businesses all of them seem to have the same opinion; they would roll their eyes and basically say good luck. I believe that a company should double check their employees more than just once or twice during the job. I guess it doesn't bother them that they're dragging their family name through the dirt.
Description of Work: Job one; The family room roof was removed and replaced as well as the family room paneling removed. The wall between the kitchen and family room was removed. the cathedral ceiling was changed to a flat ceiling as well as the walls dry walled over. Job two; remodeling the kitchen. removing all cabinets, counter tops, Windows.

We had an excellent experience with this company and are very satisfied with their work. There were a few bumps along the way - the wrong tub surround was delivered and the shower doors came in broken. Ray immediately took care of these problems and work continued on. Everything was done except for the shower doors. I wanted to do the painting myself, so I started that. The doors came in but I wasn't done, so I asked Ray to wait before installing them so I could finish. He was very agreeable, and as soon as I was done he had his crew back out and finished the work. When they gutted the room they found there was a small leak on my roof around the vent pipe. The roof was covered with snow, so they said as soon as the weather improved he'd send someone out to fix it. We got a break and the snow was gone - Ray called and sent someone out to do the repair. We had a very minor problem with the new heat vent - again, Ray sent worker out and had it fixed right away. We found this to be a great company to work with and would definitely recommend them.
Description of Work: Gutted out bathroom to studs and took up old ceramic floor. New water-proof drywall put up, acrylic tub & surround with frameless shower doors installed, plus new toilet, new sink, new vanity & new exhaust fan. Studs cut and reframed above sink to allow installation of new larger recessed medicine cabinet. New porcelain floor installed with marble sill. All plumbing & electrical done, including addition of extra electrical outlet. Door and window casings and sill replaced with new and baseboard installed to match porcelain tile.
