Choosing stone, measuring, layout all without problem, but it took 2 weeks between templating (when counters, sink, cook-top) had to be removed and when new counters were installed. So, long time with no kitchen, just before holidays. Also, on installation day, they didn't show up until 5:30pm, after I had taken the whole day off--wish they could have just told me it would be late in day.

Business with MCM was pretty much OK except for the association with coordinating business, Kitchens Plus Desgin and Remodeling. See details of that in my review of that company. The granite is just beautiful, and they did a nice job on it. One error is they mixed up our sink with another customers and we got the wrong one, but owner Buzzi Valle discounted the bill to pay for the sink.
Description of Work: 2 Granite countertops for kitchen; 1 granite countertop for vanity in powder room; 1 granite ledge for half wall between kitchen and living room; 3 custom marble thresholds, all cut and installed.

I purchased a beautiful slab of granite and set up an appointment for an MCM representative to come to my house to take measurements. The first visit started off poorly, as the representative with whom I'd confirmed it would ok to leave the sink in place during the demolition and measurement period had not apparently communicated that to Mike, the owner, who arrived at my house, saw the sink in place, and became very upset. In retrospect I should have asked him to leave, but after some effort I eventually calmed him down, he became polite, and he took the measurements. He left with the stainless sink and stainless faucet, sprayer and soap dispenser set that I had purchased, and the templates that came with the items, so that the fabricators could cut the holes in the right places. The fabrication was finished at least on schedule and possibly even faster. The individuals who installed the countertops told me not to touch them for 24 hours, so I arranged for the plumber to install the faucet, sink, etc. a day later. The installers also refused to leave without full payment. Admittedly, I ignored this red flag, but fortunately I paid with a credit card. When the plumber arrived a day later, we discovered that the holes for the faucet and sprayer had been cut so closely together that it was not possible to turn on the faucet. The faucet handle, located on the lower right-hand side of the faucet, bumped up against the sprayer, rending both useless. I called Mike, and several days of negotiations ensured. When I first explained what had happened, he told me, variously, that: (1) such a mistake was impossible, since his fabricators had the templates and measured very carefully; (2) since all templates are standard (other than the template for my set, he said), there is in fact no need for fabricators to actually measure before making cuts and they aren't responsible for my purchasing a non-standard faucet; and (3) regardless of whether his fabricators measured or not, there was insufficient room below the sink for the faucet, sprayer and soap dispenser to be arranged at a workable distance. Eventually Mike dispatched a helper to look for himself, and the helper acknowledged the problem. Mike then said we would have to move the sprayer to the hole to the left of the faucet, where the soap dispenser was located, and put the soap dispenser on the right. However, in a right-handed household, a left-handed sprayer will simply not work, and further, the set was not designed for such a setup. Eventually he offered to give us a ceramic (not stainless) faucet - of a completely different design - that he happened to have sitting around and that he thought would fit the hole. We actually considered his offer but in the end asked for another piece of granite to be fabricated to the specifications supplied with our existing sink, faucet, sprayer and soap dispenser. He refused, offering instead to "patch" the sprayer hole and cut a new one a few inches over, leaving us with a faulty, blemished product with no discount or refund. We refused his offer and reiterated that we wanted our original order fulfilled. He told us that no matching piece of granite existed anywhere in the world and that we would just have to be happy with what we had if we would not take his mismatched spare faucet or a patched product at full price. During this process, I took pictures, memorialized our conversations in writing and sent copies of everything to MCM's office for their records. I do not know what happened to change the company's approach, but not even a day after Mike's last refusal he called back, acknowledged and apologized for the mistake, accepted responsibility and told me that his employees would take the botched countertop away and install a new matching countertop. And that is exactly what happened. I ended up with what I had paid for, but only after a week's worth of fighting. Ironically, if they had immediately acknowledged the mistake and made amends, I would be referring the company to everyone I know since mistakes do happen. But because of the way they chose to handle their mistake, I feel compelled to warn potential future customers. The product ended up being beautiful, but I would never consider returning to MCM Stone for anything, ever again. I am sorry I went there in the first place.
