Graves Brothers Home Improvement

This was done some years ago, much before 2011, but those dates were not available to select. They were wonderful because they took the time to examine my attic, make recommendations, and then do the work. The installers were an equal match for the sales representatives who came to examine and estimate.

It went very well. I couldn't ask for more bunch. They worked really hard and they made sure they cleaned everything up when they left and we had no problems with them at all. Overall, it's excellent.

They did it all in three days. They also had a great price. I would strongly recommend them.

Everything was on schedule and done without a hitch. I chose Graves Brothers because of a combination of a good price and a detailed email estimate that committed to the materials and labor that was better than the other two companies that gave an estimate (one was detailed enough but more expensive, and the other was a few illegible notes with no bottom line).

Ok, this review spans 9 years. In 2004 we tore off our roof and had Graves Bros put on a new roof using 30 year shingles. The original contact in 2004 was good, the price was good compared to other companies we called at the time. They came at the arranged time and all seemed well. Fast forward to 2011, the roof started leaking. I called them and asked them to come and look at it. They told me over the phone at the time that labor was guaranteed for 6 years, it had been 7, and they wanted me to know. They said they would come to take a look, and I didn't hear back from them. I called one more time in 2011, and heard nothing back. I had another handyman do a short-term repair at the time. The leak returned in 2013, I was advised by another company that the shingles were applied incorrectly at the eaves where the roofs come together. l called Graves Bros back. This time they came right out, remembered that I had called previously and did not have an excuse for that, but said they would repair this free of charge before it snowed. They called me and said they would be here on a Sunday, and had the supplies delivered the Friday before. They did not show up on that Sunday. I called Monday and they said they ran late and couldn't get to it but would do it by the end of the week. Friday came, I called them, and they said it would be fixed Mon morning. They did show that Monday at noon after calling me to say when they would arrive. We will see how this one lasts.

The first one was $3,200 and the second one was almost $4,000. They were willing to listen to what we had in mind. The quote that they provided was the service that we were interested in. It seemed that we probably got 3 quotes on the project and they seem to do the best job and determined what it was we were looking for and actually quoting today. They did come out and they did spend the appropriate time with us and go through the process. They seemed to have the ability to do the work and were willing to listen to us as to what we were interested in getting done. They were very responsive and professional. I don't have any problem with that. I found the quote to be quite expensive. I would consider them for a quote in the future. They seem to be able to do the work from what we saw. I'm not sure that we would use them due to some other limitations that they had. We may just have to get a subcontractor to handle that type of stuff. We were looking at getting the door installed and one of the issues is that we have a stucco house. I'm not sure they have the expertise to do the matching repair if necessary.

The estimator was prompt for the appointment and went into our crawl space. Very knowledgable and described the leak was from an old gasket around a vent pipe. Described the work to be done and promised to get a quote back to me within a week. The quote never came.

Steve was professional when he gave me an estimate. He answered my questions and welcomed my phone calls with more questions. They kept in touch with me on the schedule and the roofing crew was prompt and worked hard all day. The foreman, Ronald, was polite, friendly, informative and explained the game plan each day. They did a great job cleaning up and finished the work in 2 days. I had an minor issue with the ceiling fan that was vented out the roof and Tom from Graves came over and later, Ronald the roofer came over to fix the problem. I would recommend Graves Brothers. They were professional, responsive and the crew did a good job.

The crew was prompt, efficient and fast. They did a great job of cleaning up, and solved a tricky problem at low cost. This was the fourth or fifth project I have used Graves for, and I have always been delighted with their work.

Their response time was quick. They seemed fairly knowledgeable. The price was okay. The only thing that could have been better was that the guy could have been a little bit nicer to my mother. I wasn't there at the time and she felt like they were talking down to her a little bit.

great, they came in 25% cheaper than another highly rated roofer in Rochester, on Angie's List, who I was also very impressed with from a professionalism standpoint. One I accepted and signed the contract, they were there in a couple of weeks and got my whole roof done in 1 and a half days. left the place pretty much just like they found it. I would refer Graves Bros to anyone looking for a new roof.

The crew was professional and clean up was good. They called the day before the work was to be done to say what time they would be here. They cleaned as they went which helped a great deal. They were friendly and courteous!

On the plus side: 1. We paid what we were quoted. 2. They came back to fix most of the minor issues after they were done. Negatives: 1. They did not show up when they said they would. We called them a few hours after they were expected (after taking time off to be there for them), they said they'd find out and call us back...no return call. This happened a couple separate days. We were told that a crew would come Saturday morning to finish the job so that it wouldn't be left undone for the long holiday weekend while rain and wind were expected. No crew showed up so we called and we were told that someone would find out and call us back. We didn't get a call back. 2. Luckily, the weather wasn't as bad over the holiday weekend, because they left the roof 1/2 done for 5 days along with a large dumpster directly in front of the garage door and construction material in the yard. 3. The project took more than twice as long as projected. 4. A hole was cut in the new plywood roof deck to accommodate a new vent. The crew didn't read the diagram from their office correctly and cut the hole in a different room. I stopped them and motioned that the hole was in the wrong place. They cut a new hole in the proper spot. The incorrect hole in the new plywood was not replaced, but a torn off piece from the old roof was used to fill the hole and then shingled over. The crew did not speak english, so communication was minimal. 5. Baffles were installed by the roof crew to increase the ventilation, but they were installed improperly. Because we also contracted to have the soffits replaced to increase ventilation, their own siding/soffit installer had them send a team back to fix the baffles from inside the attic.

The crew showed up right on time early in the morning (7:30) and immediately went about setting up ladders. Roofing material was put on the driveway (pallet) and draping the house. Later a large dumpster was set up on the driveway. They were very organized and neat in their work. The crew chief was excellent at managing his crew and the project. They even bring their own microwave! They did the job in one day even though work was stopped briefly for a passing rain shower. They did a good job protecting flowers and landscaping - not perfect, but ok. They cleaned up pretty well. I would have liked to have the sidewalk swept up since there was a fine black soot on it. The only one complaint I had was that one of the young guys covered up the patio with the patio rug, but didn't clean up the patio of debris before he did that. So, I had to take up the rug and clean up under it. Just a little detail that would have been nice to have cleared up before they left. Roofing material is so messy and I hope I don't have to do this again for another 30 yrs. Thanks Graves Brothers - the roof looks great!!

The project took little time once I received a response from the company. It took over 2 1/2 months to get someone to call me back. I originally had the house resided in December 1999. There is a lifetime warranty on the siding, but not the labor. I am giving the company the benefit of the doubt that they "thought I was looking for a freebie", but I was not. I am a 65 old female who is not going to climb a ladder to the second story of my home to attempt this repair. After my third phone call to the company, I got a return call. The representative came out and looked at the situation and again I was told, " I don't know if this is warranty". Again, I stated that I just wanted it fixed...cost or not. Amazing, it was accomplished two days later! This makes me wonder about this company which has a high rating. If you pay for the job, there is a quick response, but if it were to be warranty work, what kind of response would you receive? By the way, I received the bill the following Monday.

Staff who came were very matter-of-fact and upfront-refreshing from other quotes. Was able to assess and give a rough overview of what we should expect, and emailed the completed estimate within a few hours. Called to follow up after a few days. While we decided the tear-off was not in our budget right now, we were impressed with the company and plan to call them again for another quote in a few years when our budget permits.

The work was absolutely excellent. It rained and hailed the afternoon of the first day but they got everything covered and there was no storm damage. They were finished by Wednesday late morning and that included all the outside cleanup. They did an excellent job with that a well--important since the tenants have four small children. Then the guy I'd been working with called and asked if I was satisfied and I had to say I was extremely happy with their work including accommodating me on dates and asking me where I preferred the bill to be sent. Wonderful company. I wouldn't use anyone else in this area.

Excellent, completed job in time, clean work and friendly people

Graves Bros were very easy to work with and genuinely wanted us completely satisfied. They came in with a great estimate. They showed up as expected for the installation. I had a couple unusual factors with our installation which threw off the crew. I do not have a ridge vent on my main house but do on the garage. It was not replaced on the garage as it should have..it was corrected. There was damaged underlayment which was not repaired...it was fixed. The gutters had dents where the ladders were placed. These were for the most part bent back to shape. If I was not happy with the result, they would have replaced the gutter. Over all, I am happy with the end result. It just took a bit to get there.

They were just a fantastic bunch of people. They do their job. They cleaned up and I had no problem at all. I would recommend them to anybody. They were extremely professional. They answered every question we had. They explained it if we did not understand it. They were very good. They did a great job. The company was fantastic.

Called around for prices, Charlie gave us the best deal. The materials showed up on Saturday morning. The guy that dropped them off was courteous and careful and asked where we wanted them. The dumpster arrived sometime Saturday or Sunday, I was out of town, so I'm not sure. Charlie let us know that we could throw out any bigger stuff into the dumpster if we wanted to. He also warned us that because of the tear-off, that we'd end up with a mess in the attic, so we should put down plastic to protect the stuff up there. Charlie also mentioned that we might want to close the door to upstairs and keep the cat downstairs so she wouldn't get spooked by all the noise. His crew showed up at 7:30 Monday morning. They couldn't have picked a better couple days to tackle the job. I was home at 2pm to meet with a plumber coming over for a different issue, so I got a chance to watch the guys in action. They did an excellent job cleaning up Monday night and again when they finished on Tuesday afternoon. The crew was very courteous and professional. They got the job done very quickly. They left the yard immaculate. Charlie stopped by a couple times each day to make sure everything was progressing on schedule and to make sure we were happy. A storm window got broken during the repair and the crew took care of it and sent over a repairman to fix the interior window that got cracked. We were happy to let Charlie leave a sign in the front yard for a couple days to advertise as his crew did excellent work and we're very happy with the outcome.

Graves Bros Home Improvement Company are a much bigger outfit than the company I went with. The quoting process was very thorough. I know the man from Graves Bros Home Improvement Company measured the roof very thoroughly because we got on top of the roof. He was very professional.

From the time that their salesman John Noga was there to give us an estimate til the time the gutter crew finished was only a matter of weeks. During the wait time we had snow and rain so the time between seemed minimal.

The job went quickly and efficiently. John Noga was extremely knowledgeable and helpful through out the process.
