+ -1 moreWe hired them based on recommendations as well as the ones we have chosen from Angie's List. Five Star Improvements was good. They were very professional and excellent so far. They haven't started yet. They will start in September. They weren't able to tell us exactly when but they'll let us know. We're having a big roofing job done. The guy who came was very thorough and really on time. He was in a timely fashion with getting back to us. These people were really with us. I hope their work is that way too but I don't know yet. I hope they will follow through. It was so far, so good. So far with my dealings with them, they've been excellent.
Description of Work: Five Star Improvements gave us an estimate for roofing. They came to look at the job that they're going to do. They told us what they'll be able to do for us. He sent us the estimate right away. The whole roof will be teared off and they'll be doing some other work.

It turned out to be the owner of the company and he denied everything until I produced pictures. He finally offered to fix it but I did not believe it would be any better than the original repair.

He sent an electronic proposal, complete with photos and explanation of the work to be done each step of the way. His price was competitive and although I did not select Five Star to do the work, I would definitely consider them for future work and would recommend them to friends.

Jason was professional and a joy to work with and his installers, Jack and Joe, were very friendly, did quality work and cleaned up thoroughly after the work was done. All in all it was a great experience. I will be calling Jason next year to replace my roof!!

+ 0 moreOver a period of two weeks, I received four estimates, but only two detailed proposals. The first detailed proposal was from Five Star, and was received two days after Jason, the owner, inspected the roof and attic. The second one, from another contractor, was received two weeks after the roof and attic had been inspected. It was prettier than the first one, it included color photographs, but would cost at least $2500 more than the first one, and the contractor wouldn't show me his liability insurance nor workman's compensation certificates unless I first signed his contract! Five Star had provided copies of both when Jason brought his proposal, so I decided on Five Star. Communicating with Five Star was as simple as sending Jason an email in the evening, and receiving a reply the next morning, which I did five times after signing his contract..
Description of Work: The workers did a complete tear-off of 3 layers of shingles, replaced all of the sheathing, and installed Owens Corning Duration "Shasta White" shingles, and a ridge vent.

+ 1 morePROFESSIONALISM! It is always such a great joy to find a contractor/tradesman who brings a true professional character to their business. Such is Five Star Improvements ? to the greatest degree. I contracted with Five Star to reroof two decks on our home. They arrived as advertised, and stuck with the task until all was well. I presented them with a unique situation, and we did encounter some technical difficulties, but Five Star stuck with it all the way. It was never necessary for me to wrangle with them ? they contacted me with follow-up until the problem was solved. I couldn?t be happier. I?ll go right back to them with my next project, and I?ll recommend them to the world

The proposal was clear with several photos on different aspects of the project. The price was competitive but we ended up selecting a different contractor who had a proposal comparable to Five Star but did have a lower price. We would recommend anyone considering a roof to get a proposal from Five Star and will consider them for any future work at our home.

+ -1 moreI think their price was reasonable and they were a pretty good deal for the quality of window. The workers worked in the rain when they were putting the windows in. The salesman was good; he was pretty knowledgeable. After the installation I noticed one of the screens was loose so he came right over and tightened it up. Everything went okay but they only sell one kind of window.

+ -1 moreWe purchased 3 hours of Handyman work for $99. Instead we got two guys for not quite an hour and a half which is not what the understanding was. The two guys did the same task, even if meant for one guy, they just followed one another around. They said they had to be somewhere else and left before the job list was completed. My husband has called several times about scheduling the completion of the tasks to no avail.

+ -1 moreI am extremely pleased with the whole process from the professional receptionist who scheduled a free evaluation and price quote, with Mr. Pignagrande. As mentioned before, I was very impressed with the detailed explanation of the work process with pictures to explain the roofing process. The roofers were punctual, polite, and respectful. There was no down time; they took scattered breaks and lunches. Although this is not my area of expertise, two of my neighbors stated that the workers knew exactly what they were doing and they reaffirmed they were hard workers who did not laze around. . My overall experience was very excellent. I learned a lot about roofing and I believe I purchased an excellent new roof for a competitive price. More importantly, I am confident that if there is a problem in the future, Jason Pignagrande,will follow through to correct it..
Description of Work: The owner, Jason Pignagrande, personally assessed the repair work needed on the main roof and the roof on the addition which has a low pitch. He gave me a a clear print out of the work to be done that was in details with pictures so I was fully informed of the process. Furthermore, he was knowledgeable regarding the problem and solution for the addition roof. An added plus was his efficient use of technology that moved the process ahead. Jason was one of five roofers I contacted. Each one gave me new information so that I knew Jason was on target when we met. His price for the job was 3, 000 dollars less than another roofer's quote' yet a few hundred dollars more than someone else's who did not take into account the issues with the addition. Jason gave me an honest, competitive price. The workers removed two layers of shingles going down to the wood and roofing with shingles that have a life time warranty. Furthermore, the vents from 1955 were changed over to a more efficient roof vent and two bathroom vent was replaced. The hard work was tearing off and replacing the roofing material on the addition to prevent further leaks and adding new vents. . They cleaned up all debris and left the property in good shape.

After meeting with a number of other compainies, we decided to go with 5-Star's because their rates very competitive, and because Jason was so responsive and professional. We are so happy we decided to go with 5 Star!! The workers were great - professional and timely, and always clean. They even finished ahead of schedule. We looooove our new windows.

+ -1 moreThe final job is excellent, we have gotten many compliments from neighbors. I think we had some miscommunications along the way more about scheduling than anything else. The quality of both the painting and the siding is excellent. Richard who did the siding was a stickler to detail and did somethings we really like and is able to apply his experience really well. When you do a job like this you need someone that will guide you and that is what Richard did.
Description of Work: We have a home that is just over 100 years old and the ceder siding was no longer holding paint and we choose to replace it with hardy plank siding. We had just the siding replaced, all trim was left in place and painted. The home is quite large and has 4 dormers.

+ 0 moreI used the Angie's Deal of 3 hour of Handyman service for $99. I purchased this in January, and received a call from the owner within a few weeks. I explained that I had several things I was looking to have done, 2 of the bigger jobs were outside (clean gutters and install an outside flood light). He suggested that we waited till spring. I agreed, even though we had mild enough weather it could have been done in the winter. As spring approached, emailed several times, and finally got a time set up. The employee (can't remember his name) that came was totally unprepared to do really any type of work. Even though I explained what I wanted done. He wasn't even dressed appropriately to be cleaning gutters....didn't even have gloves and it was cold! He was not able to perform the electrical work. I ended up having him just do a few small jobs after the gutters were cleaned. He was very polite and the work he did was fine, but I would not use this company for handyman service. I feel this was nothing more than a way to get more business, they are not equipped as "true handyman"!
Description of Work: Clean gutters. Secure a handrail in basement stairwell. Install a small shelve in the bathroom.

+ 1 moreFive Star Improvements was awesome! The owner, Jason Pignagrande, personally did the estimate and kept us informed during the entire project. Jason was always prompt and very professional, and followed through on each commitment. If he said it, he did it, including all elements of pricing. Five Star is a Platinum Preferred Installer for Owens Corning, and has a great record with the Better Business Bureau, yet they actually came in the cheapest of the four estimates that I requested. The crew was prompt and waiting when the materials were delivered. The crew was fast, professional, and hard working. They left the roof in a watertight condition overnight to finish the work the next morning. The results are awesome! They cleaned up immediately and left the house in good shape. No damage to the siding or any other parts of the house. My house has extensive ornamental shrubs, flowers, and plants around the exterior, and they were careful to protect them. Nothing was damaged. I would definitely recommend them to anyone and hire them again myself. I received great quality at a great price.
Description of Work: Five Star Improvements did a roof over an existing layer of shingles with 50 year Owens Corning architectural shingles. They installed new drip edge, rake edge, vent boots, and ridge vent. They installed two bathroom exhaust fans and two exhaust vent kits. They fixed a broken connection in one downspout.

Joe, Matt and Jack were extremely efficient, professional and they left our home spotless. They arrived at 8 AM and worked until the job was compete,around 7:30 PM. We highly recommend Five Star for window replacement.
