Five Star Improvements

Jason is very responsive on the front end when securing a deal, but he has a lot on his plate and often takes a very long time to respond to issues after you pay. We assume that Five Star is taking on more jobs than they can handle at times. The two guys that our job was sub-contracted to were totally incompetent and probably not experienced with installing windows. The workers actually used a power saw inside of our third-floor finished space and left sawdust all over the stairs. After installation with a hacksy-looking trim on the interior, the window was extremely difficult to open and squeaked a lot. We complained and Jason took a look at it. He said he would get his actual window guy to come check it out. Months elapsed and we got busy with other stuff, so we just left the window closed most of the time. Fast forward to September 2014 (nine months after the job) when Jason arranged for his true window guy to come check it out. He took one look at it and said "They put it in upside down. I've never seen anything like this before." We once again complained to Jason about the incompetence of the original crew, and he forgave the balance that was due after our Angie's List deal. His window guy removed and installed the window right-side up and replaced the trim, and it works like a charm now, easily opening and closing with no noise. He also caulked around the window because the first guys had not done this. We only rated the overall experience as a C because Jason made things right in the end, nine months later. He is well-meaning and generally gets the job done right in the end, even if it takes two or three tries. We went back to him for this window job because of the good experience we had with our roof replacement. We would do business with Five Star again, but be warned that you should make sure you are getting someone that actually works for Jason and knows what they are doing, and not someone he's scutting the job out to.

Very timely appraisal of situation and estimate saved cancelling trip out of town to family celebration. Work performed per contract: on time, on budget with care taken to explain and demonstrate faulty installation of original ridge vent.

Estimated for wood and vinyl siding for front of house only since I'm selling and keeping costs down. Signed contract 6/23/14 with $1000 deposit. Jim will call me with scheduling. Called 7/1/14 for information on scheduling left a message- call not returned. Called 7/7/14 for schedule- said he would provide info 7/8/14 in the am. Delays due to rain. They were very nice about my scheduling restrictions and were able to finish the job in 1 day.

my experience with five star was excellent, i truly think that jason has the patience of a saint and sat through all of my questions and concerns, the price was excellent, the service was excellent... any issues after the initial call were dealt with professionally and timely.. highest recommendation

5 Star Home Improvements was recommended to me by a coworkers who had them preform a remodeling project on their home. My coworker spoke highly of them and while there were some minor issue the project overall went well and he is considering hiring them again for even more work. I had 5 star give me quotes for roofing repairs and I had also received quotes from several other contractors. 5 star had very competitive pricing but I did not really like the fact that they quoted me for the roof job without ever going up on the roof. I hope there are no unexpected surprises, I really would have preferred if they would have brought a ladder and thoroughly inspected the roof. Once they preform their work I will update this with the details.

I wouldn't tell others about them. The work was delayed but the salesman was very responsive and very caring. The workers didn't show up and they kept cutting corners in terms of what they did.

The work went very well. Jason was able to help us get short term financing, which was a big help. The roofers worked efficiently. Different workers came at a later date to wrap the facia boards and then put new gutters over that. The gutter people did not put them up in the configuration I was expecting, but were very nice about correcting the problem once I pointed it out. Over all the project took a little longer than I had originally expected, but because it was a busy season with lots of rain, and the price and warranty were very good, I was perfectly happy to wait a little.

I was told incorrect information several times. The windows took at least 2 extra weeks beyond the "expected length of time". The windows were replaced during the middle of winter. The crew thought that it was ok to removed windows and not put any insulation in place through a weekend, leaving my house very drafty all weekend long. The job also took twice as long as it was estimated and my house is only 20 y/o. Would not recommend this company to anyone or use again.

I have used Jason on two different projects at two different homes. Once for windows and one for a new roof. Our roof was damaged due to a wind storm and we called Jason for a quote. Jason explained the insurance process and walked us through all of the steps. His team was print and professional. I will use Jason and his team again when I need work.

Did not use provider.? Contacted many times but after the first few conversations they did not respond.?? I needed to replace a ceiling fan and they would not commit to a date to do this.? Tried numerous times to reach them and after 3 or 4 times, they stopped returning? my calls.

After the installation, I wasn't completely satisfied with the exterior caulking and the interior stops. Jason, the owner, arranged for another crew to come to the house and re-caulk and address all issues -- I was also refunded a small amount for a quoting error (which I didn't catch beforehand). I appreciate the response and the effort to address my concerns.

Jason and his crew were punctual, they worked quickly, and the job looks great. I am very pleased with both the quality of the work and with the windows themselves. All in all a great experience, and I would use them again for any future projects.

From start to finish, it was a pleasurable experience. Five Star gave us the best price, communication with the owner was great, and the installation and clean up was great.

The price was good and the salesperson Jim was very nice. We had several conversations with different people at the company and while they were all very pleasant, I just think they were too busy and too short staffed. Overall we were pleased with the work and the young man that installed the windows (all by himself) was wonderful and thorough and did an excellent job! We just felt bad that apparently they were not able to send someone to help him, so the job took two days to just do the internal installation (we were originally told it would only take one day and this was difficult because it is a house with tenants.) We then had a difficult time scheduling them to come back to finish the outside trim. We had to call several times to follow-up. Apparently they got very busy, then the weather got bad, so scheduling became difficult. All told, we ordered the windows in August and the full installation was not completed until mid December. We still have to have them come back in the spring to finish the caulk work. We have used other more expensive companies for windows in the past, but since this was a rental house, we decided to go in a different direction. The quality of the windows is good, but if timing and reliability is important, than you probably need to pay more and go with someone else.

Gary from Five Star came to the house. ?He was about an hour later than they said he would be there. ?He did go straight to work on removing my garage doors and then putting on the new ones. ?He was the only person there. ?It took him several hours to get everything done, but in the end everything looked good and the doors are a thousand percent improvement from our old doors. ?We are very happy with the results and service that we received.

The service was promptly scheduled, workmen arrived on time and made positive suggestions to update the alignments. The owner came by a week later to make sure the job was done correctly. I would call them in a second if I needed work done.

It went all right. The work turned out okay and I did not have any issues with them. I would use them again.

Our efforts to examine their products were a total waste of time.

The service was okay. They came promptly. They were fairly prompt. Some of the windows they did, still seemed a little drafty to me. They only did the work on the outside and no sealing in the inside. If they would have done what they said they would do, the price would have been fine.

Jason, the appraiser, was very knowledgeable & professional. Explained all stages of the work & included pictures The roofers were very efficient & courteous. The job was completed in less than 3 days. The clean up was very thorough. Very satisfied with the entire project.

Slow making initial contacts, but once we agreed on the scope of the job and price, things went fairly well. Workmanship was good to excellent. Clean up was not as good, with nails and other roofing debris found in the yard -- not extensive, but enough to be annoying. Truck that dropped off dumpster left deep ruts in our yard and and between the curb and sidewalk in our neighbor's yard. Workers left behind a large strip of aluminum drip edge on the roof, and the contractor's sign was left by the curb, which despite several requests, were never picked up.

I was unable to use the big deal due to the fine print/details of the service. The company was however polite and professional with me when we did dicuss the big deal.
