Broccolo is a woman owned, WBE, and family operated business. We have crews based in Henrietta and Fairport to serve our clients best, as well as a Garden center to provide quality plants and an educational shopping experience.
It was a challenging spring, summer with all the rain and getting the lawn treated for all their customers. They focused on quality and made sure that the treatment they applied did something for your lawn versus getting washed away. Each time they left tips on what we could do to improve the quality of the lawn (cut length, watering..). They suggested other things like over seeding for the fall. Everything, they suggested was timely and helpful. Our lawn is doing much better.

It didn't go. Broccolo did not respond with a proposal after the site visit.
Description of Work: Broccolo did landscaping several years ago, and until I retired, they also performed fertilization and aeration services. I therefore requested some ideas for additional landscaping this spring and also help with lawn improvement. A technician came out this spring, and we talked about both issues. No one called back with a proposal. No price range was ever brought up during the site visit. Possibly, my lack of a specific plan, caused Broccolo to doubt my interest in progressing the work.

In early to mid May I asked several landscaping companies to stop by and provide advice on what to do about five diseased Douglas Fir trees -- about 8-10 ft tall -- along a fence in my back yard. All recommended removing the old trees rather than trying to rehab them. Most recommended arborvitae as a suitable replacement and a couple recommended the Green Giant variety because of its growth characteristics. I obtained estimates from four of the landscaping companies and Broccolo clearly offered the best price and their people seemed quite knowledgeable and professional. I really wanted to get this work done in the spring so the newly planted trees would have time to become established before the hot weather arrived. Broccolo had a hard time getting my job scheduled as they said it would need the use of their small tractor with a backhoe and it was already book until mid June. Apparently, they only have the one tractor. Still, I contracted with Broccolo and we eventually settled on a June 19th date for the work. I made arrangements to be home for the date of the scheduled work and a few days ahead of the scheduled work I dug up a number of perrenial plants that I wanted to save that would be in the way of the tree removal and digging for the new trees. I put those in temporary pots to hold them for the few days until the job would be completed and I would be able to return them to the planting area. On the 18th of June I got a call from someone at Broccolo telling me that they could not locate the Green Giant arborvita trees they thought they had in their nursery. They were going to have to try to locate new trees and have them available for me. Regardless, they were going to have to reschedule my job. It took nearly a month more for Broccolo to locate the Green Giant arborvitae I had contracted for and to get me back on the schedule. Finally, on the 12th of July, the Broccolo crew (2 people, a truck and a tractor) were able to show up and complete the work. Once they got to my job they did outstanding work. The old trees were pulled out completely, roots and all, with the tractor and the backhoe was used to dig the holes for the new trees. They were exceptionally careful to get the new trees planted at exactly the right depth and used ample compost and topsoil to bed the new trees in place. The new trees are about 7 ft tall but the planting was so successful that only one of them needed a bit of staking to help hold it in place. The crew hauled away the old trees and did a great job of cleaning up the area when they were done and left my lawn and the planting area in nice shape. Overall, aside from the scheduling problems, Broccolo did a great job for a good price. I'd definitely hire them again.

They are very good, but they are kind of expensive. The price depends on the size of the property. They did a very good work. They got much more expensive than comparable services when we had an opportunity to compare. They are very knowledgeable of their craft. They were responsive to issues when we raised them. The reason we left them was because of the price. We would consider using them again in the future.

The staff and workers were professional in demeanor, showed up on time and were neat. The level of knowledge varied greatly. I was given an incorrect choice of a fruit tree, supposedly by their "tree expert". when I looked up the tree online it turns out it would not have born fruit being sterile. I would have had to have at least three trees to get the fruit I wanted. I asked for fencing to protect the trees and nylon fencing was installed which fell inward against the new young trees even before they left. The person in charge of our yard was willing to just let it go and hope for the best. I had to have them come back and do the whole job over. Again I had to supply the information on the best course of action from what I found on the web. In general everyone was very accomodating and agreeable but I felt the knowlege base of some of the people was not adequate. Being professioanls they should know more than I.

Weed control has worked well on all areas of the lawn. Garden beds were edged very well. Weeding was a disaster. Broccolo apparently out-sourced this phase of the project. The two individuals that showed were very young and left a lot of things that were weeds in the garden and then mulched around them. They then left without asking me to inspect the work. The mulch was very very light and non-existent in some areas as well. I had to spend a couple of more hours outside weeding properly. For $621 I would expect a complete job. If you do hire Broccolo, you should insist on doing post-inspection or do a pre-walkthrough of what you expect.

0Only 9 were in stock. We asked if they could give a discount based on the quantity of 20.. Yes, 30% discount, he said, and applied it to the 9 shrubs. A few days later, they called to tell us that 7 more had arrived, but they did not know if 4 more could be obtained. We were upset because we had already put in the 9.shrubs, so there was no turning back if they could not get the last 4. When we picked up the 7, we were told that there was no discount on these, as they were new (this year's). This was not mentioned previously, when we asked about the quantity discount. We think this is bad business practice. Had we known, undoubtedly we would have shopped at another of the MANY garden stores nearby.

I called because a door-to-door salesman for TruLawn had stopped by to give me an estimate, read bad reviews about them here on AngiesList, so I thought I'd try a local, better rated company instead. Brandon came out to estimate. He was on time and didn't mind our big dog running around in the yard. Instead of giving me an estimate, he was brutally honest and told me that if I wanted a typical lawn, I'd have to cut down some trees, that really, a lawn would never grow under so much shade. I love my trees, far more than grass and have been trying to inch it out with ever larger areas of groundcovers. So instead of giving me the estimate I asked for, he gave me a lot of ideas and information about how I could continue with the ground-cover approach. Ultimately, I'd like to let the yard go "natural" with no lawn at all, and he made several suggestions, and gave me some really good ideas that I can implement on my own. I really appreciate that he didn't try to sell me a solution that wouldn't ultimately work. And more importantly, he was very validating and encouraging about my unorthodox approach to my suburban yard. While he didn't make an actual sale, he suggested I visit their garden store and I definitely will as a way of paying for the terrific free consultation I got.

Broccolo Tree and Lawn Care did not do a great job of communication. They would show up unannounced. They wouldn't let us know when they were coming so we would still have our dogs outside and the guy would be in the yard spraying. That's not acceptable to me. I terminated the contract and will not be using them for next year.

[member name removed], it concerns me that the category you selected and description of our service is pest control. We do not, and will not ever blanket treat with pesticides even if you begged or offered to pay more. Never will a technician treat with something as innoculous as fertilizer when pets are out. We apologize if a call prior was requested and you did not recieve it. Knocking on the door and asking you to bring the pets in may be inconvenient to you, but this review seems hateful. We would like to talk to you and not leave such an awful perception of us. Sincerely, Laurie Broccolo

The work team showed up as scheduled but was not clear on what all was expected of them. They had the wrong flowering plants which meant calling for someone to bring the correct plants. They did a very poor job in transplanting the pine tree which has since died and now needs to be removed. The area to be mulched was also to be weeded. Light weeding was done most weeds covered when the mulch was applied. All in all very dissatisfied with the end result.

I've used Broccolo twice, both times a terrible, terrible experience. 1.) The first job was to create a simple clean up and border around the house and along a fence. The sales woman comes over and I tell her exactly what I want done. She then gives me a price and tells me she'll call me in a couple days to schedule the work. I send half of the money prior to the job (which is required) and I don't hear from her for 4 months. I called and left messages, but no call back. The only way I got them to get started was to go to the owners house and tell her that I've been waiting. When the job starts, the guys have no idea what to do as she didn't give much information on their work order. The guys offered up that there are regular communication issues like this between the sales office and the workers. I call the office and the saleswoman comes over with her kid in tow, takes a spray can I have sitting on my deck and sprays a line on the lawn for them to follow. The guys were great, but it must be miserable to work like that. I then get a call from the office telling me that I owe them more money, because they did more than what was on the work order. The owner and her assistant more than implied that I was trying to get extra work done, in fact, they came right out and said it. Maybe they should've looked at the saleswoman's incompetitence first before accusing the customer. 2.) After a few 'I'm sorrys' and 'give us another chance', I called to get a quote on a large garden area clean up job. A nice young man came over and gave me a signed quote for the work. I was in between jobs at the time so I told him I may call months later. He said that was fine and that he would honor the contract when I was ready. When I was ready, I called the office and Laurie Broccolo's assistant ( different one than the first job) came over instead and gave me a new quote that was substantially higher. I questioned her about it and mentioned to her that I was promised the previous quote would be honored. She was very short and rude with me and, in no uncertain terms said that they would not honor it as the man had left the company. I was more surprised with the 'take it or leave it' attitude more than the higher quote. In summary, this company has serious problems and they will point the finger of blame at the customer if anything goes wrong. I want to be very clear when I say 100% of mistakes happen at the front end, the sales office. The ground crew are a great bunch of hard-working, nice guys, but you have to deal with the inept first. This company is great at tooting their horn, saying that they're innovators, but in reality, that's just marketing. What matters is the how the job is delivered...unfortunately, they are just as terrible as terrible gets...also very overpriced.

[member name removed], We have tried very hard to put in writing all the expectations that you expected because there was clearly miscommunications and understanding of the scope of work to be performed with the 1st contract. I met with you to clear things up and we added additional work at no charge to make you happy. You were pleased and added more work with another one of my consultants. That contract was well written, yet the crew was told that you were expecting more, so again they did so at no additional charge to make you happy. Another very competent consultant and our manager all met with you and unfortunately none of us could find a reasonable compromise, so again we did additional work at no charge. At that point, it was clear that we could not work together to your satisifaction and parted ways. It saddens me to know that several years later there is still such a grudge that cannot be mitigated. We are very sorry for your experience and hope you have found a suitable gardner to work with. You have a lovely property and I admire it every time I drive by. Laurie Broccolo

They come spring through fall. They seem very knowledgeable and their price seems fair. They are happy to come out and give free quotes for other services or even for lawn service. My only drawback with them is partly based on regulations that they have to alert neighbors beforehand. Getting the schedule of when they are going to be at our house and the communication on that to connect as to when is a good time to have them come out is the only drawback. Otherwise we are really pleased with their service.

Thank you [member name removed]. Many people are not aware that we are one of the only companies that comply with all of the county and state regulations. The date notification requirement to your neighbors must be decided a week in advance without contingencies for weather that could cause the entire schedule to be nothing more than rolling the dice. We manage to schedule treatments in accordance to Cornell recommendations and can offer to give a tentative schedule and call you the day before. We do guarantee your results and appreciate your business

I contacted Broccolo to give me an estimate for clearing out two large front gardens that completely stressed me out because I could not keep up with them. The girl came out that afternoon and asked me many questions about what I wanted with my gardens. She got a good feel for the fact that I wanted my gardens low maintenance and weed free. She suggested a plan that was within my budget and gave me what I needed. Broccolo came out in August. There were two men, a landscaper and a helper. They were extremely polite, reviewed what I wanted and went to work. When I came home later that day, my gardens looked amazing! They were clean, neat and more than I expected. I was thrilled! I definitely recommend them.

I don't remember the price but I thought it was a reasonable plan. The service was fine; they performed the service just right. There really wasn't much interaction with them after initially setting up the contract, though I do recall during the process of setting up the contract that the contact I had there was very responsive to my emails. There was no specific set schedule, it was more time of the year thing, so I actually usually wasn't around when they provided the service.
Description of Work: I have contracted with Broccolo Tree and Lawn Care; it was ongoing throughout the spring, summer, and fall. My last communication with them would have been in the spring to set up a service they were providing, a basic lawn maintenance. They did fertilizers, pesticide application, and seasonal stuff.

Overall, the service has been good, but I think they overcharge. They have come out to the house when they say they would. They did not start treatment for grubs until we reminded them and they said they thought it was included in the package and they'd get to it next time. It's possible that they just wanted to be sure of the package, but it did not give me confidence.

Everyone I spoke with seemed enthusiastic and customer oriented. All appointments were kept promptly and the work proposal was complete and well documented. They were responsive to my questions and requests and able to accommodate by scheduling preferences. When I was ready they started work promptly. The team worked hard and quickly to prepare the site and lay the flags. The completed patio looks even better than I anticipated. The crew was clearly experienced and committed to doing a good job They were also very conscious of the disruption and the effect their equipment had on our lawn. Before they left they repaired the lawn to better than it was before they started.
