Sounds exaggerated but this is the worst business (in this field) you could have do work on your property. Unsafe, zero respect for the property owners and looking to make money any way they can. Of course, take what you want and leave the rest, but I would advise to never hire this company on your property.

Horrible. Disgusting lack of customer relations.
Description of Work: I needed no work done. This company has been contracted by RG&E to remove trees near power lines. That is fine except when they cleared branches on my property line they destroyed trees that were over 40 years old and only 15 feet high. No where near the high lines. Cut it off a foot from the ground. Crushed my fence. Destroyed the slide on my kids swing set. When asked about the branches was lied to and told RG&E would chip them even though they had a chipper with them . called to complain and was told " we have a rigorous pruning policy with RG&E". Disgusting public relations.

Got home yesterday from work to my backyard absolutely destroyed. Broke fencing and didn’t replace it. Cut things down in our garden that were 3 ft tall and part of our garden nowhere near power lines. Tore up our yard. Broke an expensive rock garden in our back yard and zero cleanup. Beyond ****** off and this joke of a company and trying to figure out how to file a claim against them. I would never recommend these guys ever. Embarrassing that they call themselves professionals.

In the past four years, I've had Birchcrest do various jobs on my property including tree removal and lawn care. They're slow to get to the job, but I've been mostly pleased with their work. Recently, I had them rock hound, grade and install a new lawn after a winter sewer pipe replacement destroyed the front yard. This time they've added to a water problem already established by nature and a prior driveway installation. Water that stands in the driveway after rain and requires manual removal with a large broom has been exacerbated by too high grading. The young men who installed the lawn are nice people and professional. A return trip after my complaint about the grading improved but didn't fix their part of the issue. I explained that my property that sits below street level tends to be wet and their grading above the driveway edge had created a barrier on that side that held up water flow. Water will not leave the driveway high edge or not. There's an issue with the asphalt driveway pitch that is at root already. But creating the higher edge acts to **** the water creating a deeper body of water. Two service providers-including the Birchcrest installers along with a waterproofing company-have noted it's clear to see that the driveway guys tried to "pitch" the driveway to that side. Rather than grade that area to accept water, Birchcrest graded it higher. Two weeks after complaint, Birchcrest employees returned to address the high edge. This was not to regrade but instead to dig out small area marked by the Birchcrest employee/professional who booked the job. He did respond after emails and came out to see the high edge. Unfortunately, he along with the other employees got hung up on my property being below street level and wet. He commented that once the grass roots thickened they would soak up water. Uh....no...not when the grade is too high. But I said okay to his marking a small area to be dug out and regraded. A very small area. The small edge was reduced, but then topsoil was added raising the edge again. It's not as high, which is helpful, and the water holding capacity is lessened. But water still cannot flow into the yard with the high grading remains higher in that area. Also, the waterproofing company noted that a large area of the yard remains too high. Between the driveway pitch failure with another company and Birchcrest's too high grading, there is a pond in the driveway when it rains. Normally, there's a small body of water to remove, but now it's a greater amount. Waterproofing/grading experts lay weight on the driveway installation failure, but added that Birchcrest didn't help the issue with the high grading. After Birchcrest's small dig out the water level on that side reduced, but it's still not enough to let water flow on that side. Middle of the driveway and to the left is a low spot created by the asphalt company that acts as a reservoir for rain water. Now thanks to both companies there's a small pond in the driveway. I've dug out the too high edge slightly and raked it back a bit after the attempted fix. As it stands, the water proofing/grading professionals are shaking their heads over the mess created by two well known companies. It's frustrating to deal with the water problem, but even more so because I'm a 63 year old woman with multiple sclerosis and the physical act of removing water is emotionally and physically challenging. Writing emails, a letter to the owner, waiting, waiting, waiting for responses is wearing. I'm moving on from Birchcrest given I don't believe they are capable of correctly grading my yard. As well as the rain this year has back logged them and there is no immediate attention to or interest in fixing the problem. I called them and said I'm at peace that the two employees at least tried to fix it. But I would not hire Birchcrest again for this type of job. Now I'm looking to other professionals to resolve and repair the grading failure.

After the initial estimate in May, you couldn't get in contact with anybody. The times we did, we were told that someone would get into contact with us, which of course never happened without us constantly calling back. Re-writing the estimate when we added something took 3 weeks for us to receive a new estimate. Only one of the tasks was actually completed (the removal of the trees in mid-August, 3 months after contacting them) and the area was never cleaned up or fixed. Somebody from the company showed up unannounced yesterday to perform work (ON SEPTEMBER 13TH, 4 MONTHS LATER) and we sent them away. We wasted an entire summer trying to get this work completed and we now have to wait until next season. Absolutely terrible customer service and extremely unprofessional.

We appreciate your feedback, as we are always striving to improve our customer experience. We sincerely apologize that we were unable to meet your expectations during the quoting process. We pride ourselves on being responsive, and providing fair and accurate quotes. In this case, Our receptionist spoke with you on Friday, July 1st and scheduled an appointment for July 11th to meet with one of our certified arborists regarding a quote to remove a tree. The arborist went to the home on July 11th but the homeowner was not there for the appointment. Another family member was there, and talked about other work to be done, but did not know what & made it clear our arborist should talk to the homeowner directly. Our arborist spoke on the phone with the homeowner shortly after the 1st missed appointment, but never had the opportunity to look at the tree to be removed or any of the property and NEVER gave a quote for either the tree removal or any potential landscaping. Again, we apologize for any miscommunication, and are happy to provide an accurate quote upon inspection of the tree in question.

While we were on a one week vacation they came and destroyed the ancient trees in front of my landmarked house. With no sympathy for aesthetics they severely trimmed and defaced the plantings in front of my National Register of Historic Places Home. Some of these trees were 180 years old. Five trees were largely ruined. One was completely cut down. They are butchers. AVOID.

Birchcrest moved the limb off the power lines and then left all the tree debris in the middle of my yard. The largest section of tree limb was cut into long pieces too heavy to move and all the rest of the tree debris was simply left in a heap. This is a prime example of a contractor exhibiting the height of laziness and doing the absolute bare minimum required, even though they had the manpower and equipment necessary to complete the job at the time. What was Birchcrest's response when I questioned them about this? "That's all we were required to do." I have used Birchcrest in the past for tree work; I will never use them again. And it's not just what they did or did not do. It's their arrogant attitude that really made me angry.

They butchered all my trees, but I'm not mad about that. I'm disgusted with the way they left my yard. There were branches everywhere, including the culvert that surrounds my yard, which would cause huge issue if we had a hard rain. Birchcrest is one of the most expensive tree/lawn companies in town and if this is what you pay for, they are rip off artists! Again, I am disgusted!

They wordsmithed the quote and only did the garage and charged me full price. It took 4 months for them to do the work and they blamed me for not moving things from there way when they never contacted me to tell me when they would be there. When they finally did call me, the stuff was moved so they could do the work and they only did the part I didnt even care about!!! When I followed up with the rep. he blamed me for them not calling me and said the confusion was entirely my fault.

The day the tree fell, they were very prompt and attentive to getting the tree off of our power lines and the house. However, when we had them come out to remove the tree we were told it could be down in a couple of days. After multiple phone calls with no return calls, and an angry call to them threatening to cancel my contact, they were able to get a crew out that afternoon. This was 2 weeks after I was told it could be down within a few days. Once they came, they worked quickly and swiftly and was very nice and polite, but was a very frustrating experience trying to get them onsite.

I would like to second the vote as to the extremely poor job Birchcrest does when they trim for the RG&E lines. They simply rape the surface and take out anything they remotely think may interfere with the wires in the future. The REAL PROBLEM is they don't actually know exactly what the easement with RG&E specifies is allowable. Each homeowner's spec. may be different. They cleared way too much on my property. Pleas to be respectful at the job site fell on deaf ears. After a significant hassle RG&E did stand behind their destruction and settled with me but that is no way to run a railroad. The trees are already gone. They also left several large stumps 6ft. high behind. What is that all about??? Contacting them directly is impossible. THEY JUST SIMPLY DO NOT CARE. That is why I would never have them do any residential work for me. Years ago when I did check with them, their estimate was exactly 2X what I got the work done for. Being a local contractor you would think they would be more respectful of where their bread is buttered.

Line clearance vegetation management is performed to very specific parameters, developed by the utility company's Forestry Division and arborists. The goal of this type of pruning is to prevent catastrophic power loss during a storm event, and protect consumers from the effects of these power losses. These guidelines include specifications for the amount of pruning necessary for each tree species, depending on growth rate. Work performed by Birchcrest is within the legal easement area for utility access. The utility company's Forestry Division Manager inspected the work done at the above property and deemed it to be in compliance with all specifications for line clearance work, and that no further action was necessary.

We have used other tree companies before, this was my first time with Birchcrest. They were very responsive, and did an exceptional job. I expected a mess when I came home following the removal of everything, but I was pleasently suprised to see that I could barely tell what had been done. The tree to cut down was very small and that went fine. I wanted them to trim a small tree Infront of the house that was blocking a window. I explaind many times to different guys I wanted it to be shaped because it was growing out of hand. When they finished the tree still didn't have a shape and I couldn't tell what they took off, It still looked a mess. The pulling of the shrubs in the yard took up most of their time. The whole job took them 3.5 hours, the trees were so small I couldn't believe a company with such a big name in rochester had a hard time with those trees. Unfortunately, I wasn't home when they were done, my mom was here and she just told the guys it looked good and gave them a tip... Hahaha!!! My fault for not being home.

Thank you for posting your comments. We’re sorry you weren’t entirely happy with the work. As our arborist explained when first discussing the job, the tree in front of the house is very asymmetrical due to its closeness to the house, and to prune it hard the way you requested would have removed too much of the tree canopy. This would have resulted in the decline and ultimate failure of the tree. We did prune as much as we could, under the circumstances. We also removed the ivy from the chimney while we were there, which should be factored into your consideration of the value of the work. We take our work very seriously, and our goal is always customer satisfaction with a job that we’ve performed in a responsible way by adhering to proper arboricultural practices. We hope you will consider using Birchcrest again.
