My drains in the basement clogged up and my garbage disposal backed up into my utility tub in the basement. I had recently gotten from from having surgery, and that was the last thing I needed. A friend's husband, who does plumbing, was unavailable so he recommended I call AP Plumbing. They were extremely courteous, professional and informative over the phone. They gave me an estimated time of arrival and said I would hear from a rep with a closer time frame. They were there within 30 mins! Byron was friendly and professional and was able to unclog the drain quickly. The only negative I would have to say about this company, is they charge by a job and not the hour which can be either good or bad. However, I knew this when I called them. I believe if I had gotten a plumber who charged by the hour, it might have been a little less expensive, but maybe not. However, I was very impressed with the service from the person answering the phone to the technician who came to my home. I definitely would recommend them and would very likely use them again.
Description of Work: My garbage disposal backed up into the utility sink in my basement and I could not get the clog out. They came and were able to quickly unclog the drains for me.

Excellent response time. I called at 10:30 am, they said they could have someone out between Noon and 2. They called back a few minutes later, asked if they could come around 11:15, and showed up at 11:10am. Very professional, I told him he didn't have to where shoe covers, he said it was company policy. There was water dripping from ceiling in basement around one of the two pipes going up to the 2nd floor, and the floor around it was wet. There was a 3rd smaller tube going up to the refrigerator that was about 2 feet over, and the area was dry. I had checked behind the refrigerator, and found not water on the floor, so assumed it was the pipe going to 2nd floor. He also assumed this, so we pulled out the refrigerator to cut into drywall, and he found the wall was wet. There was a pin hole leak in the tube, and when the refrigator was pushed back against the wall, the tube was over far enough where the water went down the wall where the two pipes were, not the refrigerator waterline tube. Paint color of wall also made it hard to tell it was wet upon visual inspection. They charge a flat rate fee for all work, and he showed me the price to replace, it was over $300. I am fairly handy, so I opted to do it myself. He gave me some tips on the best materials to buy, which was appreciated. Overall a good experience. My only disappointment was that I didn't find the source myself first, but the investigation averted cutting into the drywall (which I had considered doing myself), so it was worth the $120.

Didn't happen. Here's why. I have no real gripe with AP Plumbing. They did what they said they were going to do, and did it on time. My gripe is with their business model, which I should have recognized before committing to have them do the work. They won't do estimates over the phone; understandably, since they commit to the estimate they make once they arrive, problems or no problems. Estimates are made from a flat rate book, similar to that used by auto mechanics. It costs $x to install a valve. If it takes longer than the book says, or if the plumber runs into problems, the homeowner is saved. If it takes less, the homeowner is shafted. But that means they have to show up before you have any idea of the cost. So the estimate for installing the valve, according to their book, was $280. Whoa! With various discounts, it got down to $200, but that still seemed too high for me. I paid the $52 "show up" fee, sent the plumber (who was quite pleasant, open, professional) on his way. Today I bit the bullet, made a trip to Home Depot, and $20 and one hour later, I had my ball valve installed. In the end, I vowed never to walk into an open-ended arrangement like that again. Bad news. And I'd never recommend anyone who does business like that, although, I guess in certain circumstances, with large possible unknowns, it could be beneficial.

[member name removed], Thank you for taking the time to post a review of your experience with AP Plumbing. I understand you were not happy with the price the technician quoted for the ball valve replacement. I ask that you don't judge service charges soley by the time the technician spends in your home. Operating a reliable service business requires organization, competent management, and a substantial capital investment. When you see the service technician who comes to your home, remember that the quality of their service depends on numerous "behind the scenes" activities that are usually taken for granted. I am sorry that you were unhappy with the price, though I am glad to see that you had a positive experience with the technician and that he did provide value to you with his recommendations.

They oversold the amount of work they needed to do, and their prices were high to begin with. Quality of work was very good, and responsiveness was excellent, but I would not use them again because they were just too expensive and too pushy/sales oriented.

I have used AP plumbing several times and they are always professional clean and complete the job on time. I had one particular drain problem that took a fair amount of labor and work to repair and their team was professional enough to complete the job properly. They are not cheap, but no good plumbers are cheap. They always do what they say they will do when the say they will do it.

For such a surprising and costly repair, Brian Hill and the two Scotts from AP Plumbing did a wonderful job getting my home operational again. I highly recommend them for any plumbing need.
Description of Work: I had an emergency water back flow problem in my home and called AP Plumbing. I was told they could have someone there within an hour and they did. Brian Hill arrived and I can only give the highest compliments to him for his professionalism, friendliness, and help with my sewer problem. He first discovered a root problem in the pipes and cleared that. He then ran a camera the entire length of my lines and - unfortunately - found major cracks and holes in a section of the pipe. I was impressed that within an hour and half of this discovery, he had all the city services out to mark lines before digging and had a crew (the two Scotts), there digging up the damaged pipe and replacing it with new pipe. By mid-afternoon, I had an operational sewer system. Brian not only diagnosed the problem, but also helped dig around trying to locate the clean outs for the sewer in the yard. He stayed on the job the entire time, helping with the digging and otherwise keeping me laughing while I tried to come to grips with the amount of work and expense for what I originally thought was just a stopped-up toilet. The two Scotts worked efficiently and carefully to dig up and replace the damaged pipe and were careful to respect the property line between myself and my neighbor.

I needed a plumber to unclog a kitchen sink. I used the yellow pages to find them. They stated "never an overtime charge" in their add so I thought the price would be lower. Since it was a Saturday I decided to call them to do the work. The person that answered the phone was professional and very courteous. I called at 9:00 am and there was a plumber at my door by 10:30. He was very professional as well. If I had time, I would have shopped for a better price. It was $340 just to snake a kitchen drain which I thought was way too much money. He did tell me that my garbage disposal needed a separate trap so I had him go ahead and do that work which brought the total bill up to $600.00. I had no problem with the whole experience except for the price. I really think that they should review their pricing. It took less than 45 minutes for him to snake the drain and have it running again. $340.00 in my opinion is way too much money for what needed to be done.

I called AP. They were very curtious and sent Tech out the next day. The Tech was on time. He viewed the ceiling. We discussed how we recognized the problem and concluded it would have to be from the shower or sink drain. At that point he asked me how handy my husband was as he would have to charge me $340 just to cut the hole in the ceiling to determine the plumbing repair. Rather than spend that money I advised I'd think about what we needed done and discuss with my husband. He did confirm for me that the trip fee would apply to any work they performed within 30 days. I contacted a dry wall contractor who advised me most plumbers would open the ceiling for no incremental charge and he would not likely charge anything near that for the entire repair. Which he did not. I contacted another plumbing company who did the entire job for about the price they wanted to charge me just for cutting the ceiling alone. Perhaps they do good work ... but I suspect you'll pay at least 2x more than you should.
Description of Work: The $53 I spent was for the visit. I had a very small slow small leak from an upstairs bathroom which caused a small bubble on the kitchen ceiling.

We had water backing-up in our basement after doing laundry. We called AP Plumbing at 11:00 a.m. and discussed our situation, options, and costs with the "master plumber." The technician arrived on time and was clean and courteous. He cabled the line and then ran a camera through to show the problem area and discuss possible solutions. The technician then packed-up and cleaned the work area thoroughly. The whole ordeal was finished very quickly and we were doing laundry again by 2:00 p.m. We highly recommend this company; our overall experience was excellent!

They were timely, but they quoted us $14K to reroute the tub and toilet to a new drain stack and to install rough plumbing for a new powder room, kitchen sink, and island. This is for a new additiion. The guy basically told us that it was almost the equivalent of replumbing the entire house. I received three other quotes from other companies for the same exact work and they were all between $4k and $5.5K. Obviously AP plumbing is in the business of gouging or they are unskilled at properly defining/understanding the scope of work. I would steer clear of AP Plumbing. Perhaps the amount of advertising on the radio has to be subsidized by their outrageous quotes.

They were prompt when they came to do the estimate and to my surprise, he told me what I needed and what I didn't need to get the job done correctly. He quoted and delivered EXACTLY what I asked for and didn't upsell me on anything; he sold me only what I needed. His workers were on time, done quickly, left no trace they'd even been here and did first rate work. Not only would I do business with him again, I probably will ONLY use him for my plumbing needs. Service like this deserves customer loyalty and he'll have it from us. Highly recommended.
Description of Work: My house had been a rental to college students for 30 years when we bought it and the previous owners jury-rigged nearly everything, including the plumbing. I needed a new basement basin sink (as the old one was not only broken, it was long disconnected from anything), a garbage disposal installed and a whole lot of pvc work redone to gain a usable basement basin and to stop my drains from gurgling whenever the laundry drained.

I asked for a kitchen sink which would not stain. It has become the worst sink ever, cannot keep it clean. Base of toliet,I asked to have caulked--bad job done, it has become a different color-darker. Company called about a year ago, went through my experiece and told them I would not use them again. They were apologized. Partly my fault I should have complained earlier but I am a caregiver and my Dad had alzheimers at the time. Perhaps some of the problems might have been resolved. But it should have been right the first time. No one, especially today, has the time to hand- hold anyone.

Response from AP Plumbing
At AP Plumbing we take pride in our workmanship and strive to ensure customers are satisfied with our services and the value we provide. We performed work at your home almost four years ago. I just read your March 2012 review and was surprised when I checked your account history and found that you did not contact us to schedule a return service visit, as the work we performed was under warranty. We would've gladly come back out to your home to inspect the issues you described. Stainless steel does not typically discolor so maybe the product is defective. Discolored caulk at the base of the toilet could be a sign the toilet is leaking at the base. Without investigating further I cannot say for sure what has caused the problems you described but would like the opportunity to come back to your home, at no cost to you, to see if we can remedy the situation. We appreciate all feedback from our customers, both positive and negative, to help us improve the customer experience. Thank you.

I had spent over $700 with another plumbing company two days before that could not unblock my line all the way and had suggested a lot line clean out. I called AP for an estimate. Within 45 minutes Brian located the blockage in my main sewer line. He called to sewer company and reported the problem, waited with me until they took care of the blockage. He then took another look down my line to re evaluate my situation. The situation was that it was clear but could use some maintenance that I am going to have done because I trust him. He told me everything he was doing and why, I learned a lot.

Overall, I figured a $100 to $200 tops. I had tried to replace it myself, but have issues w/ my back and decided after I attempted ... To just have someone else do it. I went w/ Aand P due to the ratings they received on Angie's List. The gentleman arrived ... Again more than professional ... the quote on the spot was over $300 dollars. Keep in mind ... I was providing the faucet to be replaced. The technician offered their's to supplement, but then the price went above $500. I had the work done due to an upcoming surgery and I had to get things done. Had it not been for the upcoming surgery ... I would have asked him to leave. Keep in mind ... If I would have done that, I would have received a $50 dollar surcharge for dispatch w/ no work being done. After the surgery, both my wife and I went shopping at Lowes ... We found out that they will have someone come out to your home and change a faucet for $150. Do not get me wrong ... Aand P was more than professional and polite. The work they did was excellent. The technician went out of his way to satisfy me after reading my facial expression on the spot. Bottom line ... Aand P is expensive for a job that Lowes can do at half the price. Your call ...
Description of Work: Kitchen Faucet ... The thing that struck me odd and should have been an indicator for me ... was that I asked for an estimate over the telephone to replace a kitchen faucet. The lady was more than polite and professional, but explained to me that she could not ... That only the technician that came to the home could and would do so upon arrival.

In trying to replace the kitchen faucet, we sprung a leak in the galvanized pipe below the floor. It was time for a plumber. AP Plumbing was responsive in getting a shutoff quickly in place, so water could be turned on to the whole house (this is an old 5 unit apartment building). Since this unit was unoccupied, we then scheduled them to come back and replace the lines after Christmas. They arrived on schedule, figured the best way to run the lines, (had to cut through 4 feet of floor in the bathroom), get the materials and complete the job. Everyone involved, including the office staff, manager, and plumber were competent and attentive to my needs.
Description of Work: Needed to replace old galvanized water lines from basement to 2nd floor kitchen. Required cutting through floor to trace lines, remove old and run new pex lines, with appropriate shutoffs.
