Several delays, and promised service was never really completed.

Marty (owner), returned my call, we set up a date when they would start. Prior to that, Marty came over, inspected the roof, took pictures, thoroughly explained to me in detail everything that needed to be done, gave me an price on the roof($8500.00). He explained to me that he saw some problems and that there might be additional costs, but was unable to determine until he pulled that side of the roof off. Marty gave me an estimate ($1500-2000). His crew (Steve and son's) was there on time and ready to go !!! I have not seen a group of people work that well and efficiently since the military (24yrs. of service)!!! They were extremely professional, very friendly, and if I had any questions or requests, Steve would notify who I needed to speak with (Marty), and I would recieve a phone call or visit that day if he had to come out. When they finally started working on the side of the roof that he saw problems with, it was a complete NIGHTMARE !! The entire side was completely rotted (Six layers of crap where my father had people go up and supposedly repair it. Some of it not even nailed down !!! Man was I p*****) !!! Thay had to rebuild the entire side of the house !!!The total job took approx. 10 days. They were so intent on getting it done due to rain, they came in on the weekend(s) to get it done !!! When they were finished for the day, it was if they were never there. Everything was always neat and clean when they left. When they were finished, I spoke with Marty, sat down with him and he gave me an entire breakdown of what everything (materials, labor,cost). As you can see, I am very thorough also. We came to a final price $10,800.00. I was very pleased with everything. I have a 10yr warranty where if I have any problems with the roof his crew will come in and fix it (trees falling on or fires not included !!! LOL). In the meantime, I also feel that I gained a good friend !!! That's the type of relationship you should have when it comes to business. I would recommend him to anyone !!!

A-Best did a complete tear off and roof replacement for me in November, 2010, working within the parameters of Greece's GRIP program. Marty gave me many shingle samples to choose from, and my choice of metal edge stripping color. His crew worked hard and steady through the entire job, and were courteous and in good spirits to myself and my children. They skillfully replaced several feet of previously damaged siding (from an old tar patch job) with scraps I had stored in my garage. They went out of their way to protect my garden and house ornaments, and did a thorough job cleaning up afterwards. Also, when there was a question as to whether or not their normal course of work may have loosened a connection in my chimney and caused my furnace to stop functioning, Marty had a gentleman at my home within 45 minutes to resolve the issue; no hemming or hawing about it not being their responsibility, just dedication to customer satisfaction. I'm so pleased that I plan on having them do more work on my house in the future.

After getting estimates from 2 other roofers, I went with A best because the owner was the most aggressive about finding the cause of the problem, as well as checking all the roof surfaces. He provided photos with a clear explanation of the problems and the solutions. He showed up when he said he would and did a great job of repairing the initial problem as well as fixing other problems before they turned into more expensive repairs. Fast, detail oriented and the best repair materials and methods. Highly recommended. Be careful, take your time about who you select. There are some roofers who just want to finish fast instead of doing the job correctly. I would suggest that you make sure A Best is one of the firms you solicit bids from for roof work. Ask for Howie to inspect the job. He makes an effort to stand behind the work and his price is very good considering how careful he is with the job.

I requested an estimate for a roofing job from this firm. I met with Marty Hill, the owner, and he was on time, professional, friendly, very informative, we discussed the pros and cons of various methods to get the job done, he inspected the roof and pointed out various failures and need for repair in particular. He gave me an estimate at the end of the discussion and followed up in a couple of days with a written estimate. In the end, based on price, I did not select this firm but was very satisfied with the service that I did receive.

I talked to him about different things. He was very professional and very kind. I will consider using him in the future.

This contractor responded quickly to our inquiry, came to estimate and was professional when he came to the house. He seemed extremely confident that he could provide the services we needed. He told us to call as soon as we got the finished architect drawings. We decided to go with him, after interviewing 3 or 4 other contractor. We called about a week later and no reply. We waited a few days and called again. No reply. We called a third time to politely say that if he wasn't interested in the job, to please call and let us know. Still no reply 3 weeks after our first call back.

He was supposed to follow up with a written estimate and he never did.

To provide the quote they came and looked at the situation very carefully and provided a competitive quote The same person installed a Sun Tunnel in the bathroom purchased from Best and replaced the kitchen sink using a sink provided by us. It took them a little longer to get started than we had hoped for but job was done quickly and well

They were recommended by a friend and their price was reasonable. I would absolutely use them in the future if the need arose.

Their professionalism and demeanor were good. I decided against them because the brand of materials that they use is Canadian and is well known in the industry for not honoring their warranties.

The company's owner Marty Hill was very available and gave me an estimate on the spot. He met with us a couple more times until we chose him. We got two other estimates from other Angie's List top contractors. One was thousands more; the other was comparable but with a very short valid time period -- too short for us to make a decision. The work was done on time and very efficiently. In terms of deciding what plywood had to be replaced, I feel they did not replace more than they had to, given the condition of some of the pieces they left up. I have a reasonably large roof for a single home, and they did it in 3 days. (The weather cooperated.) Most of the replaced plywood was on the back of the house where the roof is raised to almost horizontal, so the drainage is not as good. That cost me about $3,000 extra -- $45/sheet. Afterwards, I had a small concern about a warped shingle and it took them a while to get back to me. Apparently Marty had had surgery so he hired an assistant to help him catch up on business. Once I got one of the workers back to my house, he fixed it and a few other small things he noticed were not perfect. That is commendable, although I guess ideally that should have been done before the crew left on the last day. The roof looks fantastic. I would use him again.

The work was completed on-time and for exactly the amount estimated. The crew was timely and professional.

There was nothing I didn't like about the work they had done. Everything they had done I loved. We had no problems at all with their service, and are completely happy. They were pricey, but they are worth every penny.

A Best owner, Marty Hill, returned my call to say he was a good 90 days away from being able to take on a new job. He told me to return to Angie's List for another contractor and also gave me a name of someone to call instead. I appreciated the honesty and the return call. I will call this company again if I need something done to the house.

They've always been great to work with. Marty who owns the company is a really great guy and he's very honest. They show up on time. They do really great work. There's a good followup after the work is done to make sure the work is up to our specifications. We've had good luck with them.

They just never got back with me about an addition to my home.

Great communication from the owner, Marty Hill and his job foreman, Paul. We had a slight weather delay on the start, but once the project began it was completed in a total of five days. I was very impressed with the attention to detail the crew paid to our property, tenants and neighbor during the job. Obviously, roofing can be a messy project but the workers left the site clean and neat at the end of the work day. While not the low bidder, the cost of the job was competitive and I had confidence in their ability to complete and stand behind the job. Marty had his insurance broker mail me insurance certificates prior to the start of the job and no payment was requested until completion. I've asked them to quote other work for us in the future and wouldn't hesitate to recommend them.

see above. Why is it so hard to get supposed professionals to return a call?

The first job that they did was great, but they are not coming back to make adjustments. They underbid everybody else and did wonderful work. I had complained about some of the work, and they haven?t done anything about it. It?s almost like they are trying to get back some of the money that they underbid. It?s been several months since I have seen them. They came out for the second job right after the first job. They came out to fix my porch by installing new railing. They did my porch as much as they could do. It didn?t seem to me to be worth the money that I paid them. My experience with the crew wasn?t good. They were sloppy. I asked them to change the siding and that never got done. They were also supposed to clean out a drain, but they never did it.

The owner was definitely anxious to meet, and said all of the right things. He arrived late for our initial meeting (though he did call twice to inform me he was running behind), took the measurements and my preferences, and said he'd follow up with an estimate over the weekend. Monday afternoon came & went, so I called him - he said he had the paperwork at home and would call around 7pm that night. It is now Wednesday morning and I have yet to hear from him. Very disappointing as he was a very personable man who seemed sincerely grateful for the opportunity to work with me.

We worked directly with the owner. He was very clear on what they were going to do and thorough in his presentation. He gave us a fair quote and we felt comfortable going with him from the good reports he received from Angie's List. I would consider using his services again in the future.

I had a dream as my grandchildren (5 at this time) grew that I would build a family room for them as my home was a small ranch house. From the time I contacted A Best and started dealing with Marty Hill, I could feel my dream becoming a reality. I told him what I was thinking about and within 2 weeks work was started. There was a crew of 4 gentlemen working in my home. They were conscientious, courteous, considerate and hard working. I was informed daily of their progress and invited to check out the work frequently. I did have to ask them to make a change which they did make the willingly. Marty checked in frequently to see how I felt the project was going and to see if I was happy. Brandon, the foreman of this job, kept me informed of where they stood daily and what time they would show up the next day. They were there every day exactly when they said they would be. Imagine that! I loved the fact that I could count on them. I was told when and where to pick out the carpet, paint, cabinets, countertop, and hardware. They made it very easy to have a job of this magnitude done as the Christmas season was in full swing! They cleaned up after themselves daily and this included removing their trash as I have limited trash removal. Before they started they tarped the other half of the basement trying to keep the dust out. It was not always easy for them to accomplish their work because I do not have a slop sink in my basement. I'm sure when they had to mix their plaster or clean up after painting they were not thrilled (because I know I would not have been) but I never heard a word about it. I had a concern about having the floor clean before the carpet was put down.. A Best made very sure the floor was spotless, even painted to seal in any loose plaster dust before the carpet was put down. I know I do not have to worry about anything in my new family room. It was completed well within the time limit I was given and very much to my satisfaction. I have the very best family room ever! I was not asked for a penny until the job was totally complete. I cannot say enough good things about everyone at A Best. I would hire them again in a heartbeat. As a matter of fact I have a deck that needs to be replaced in the spring and they are my contractor of choice...again!
