 + 5 moreThese guys were EXCELLENT. Francisco, the foreman, was extremely knowledgeable about building science, talked me through various insulation options in a way that really inspired confidence. They sent a big team of guys (between 4 and 7 on a given day) to do the work, so that it went quickly. The guys who did the work were great: considerate, polite, professional. Most of all: it was clear that they wanted to do the job RIGHT. I've had other contractors where I felt that, if I didn't keep an eye out, they would cut corners. These guys were the opposite: they clearly took pride in their work, and in doing an excellent job. I couldn't be more happy with the whole experience. We will use them for any contracting we need done in future -- not just insulation work. Really highly recommended.
Description of Work: We used Malcarne to do a free Home Energy Audit (paid for by NYSERDA), and then to air-seal and insulate the house, based on their findings -- all paid for by a NYSERDA-backed 3.5% loan. (They blew dense-packed cellulose insulation in the walls, loose packed into the attic, insulated the knee walls upstairs.) We also had them do various bits of optional work that we wanted done while we were there: installing a bathroom fan, new electrical sockets, swapping out a window, etc.

 + -1 moreSo far so good, but no work has been done yet. In reality they are like many other vendors. You give them your budget and your wish list; they come back with a couple of proposals the first of which is way out of your price range but you don't know that until you get all excited about what you are going to get. That is irritating because that is a waste of my time but once we reiterated our budget we got back down to reality. I'll come back and write another review once the work is completed.
Description of Work: So far Malcarne has given us an estimate for work to be done. We are in the process of getting all the "i's" dotted and the "t's" crossed.

Description of Work: They renovated our kitchen and dining room. Took out the wall between kitchen and dining room; removed and changed windows. We chose high-end finishes and everyone who walks into our home comments on how beautiful the kitchen and dining room are. We have had friends take pictures because they want to copy the design and finishes. People who visit comment on how comfortable they feel in these rooms and how much they like the colors. Malcarne contracting's architect and interior designer, Nevien Sedarias is amazing!! She fit so much into a relatively small area and made it look beautiful and timeless. We just love our kitchen/dining renovation. We would not hesitate to hire them again for any renovation.

 + -1 moreThe Malcarne team arrived punctually each day and worked into the evening hours. The entire project took the team a total of 6 days. Each day was productive and the team cleaned up after each day's work. The team communicated what they were doing and what they would be doing. The team worked tirelessly and efficiently. On the final day, Francisco Martinez offered to have workers come during this week to put a lip around our trap door and paint in bright orange for safety which we appreciated. Malcarne is obviously an excellent contracting firm and I recommend them highly and without reservation.
Description of Work: Francisco Martinez, Crew Leader, and his skilled team insulated all of the walls of our house, the garage, the basement, and the attic. They caulked around the doors and windows, placed weatherstripping and door sweeps on three doors, and built a large platform in our attic for storage. The team crawled into every area of the house including crawlspaces and storage areas. They capped or covered openings of in the floor of our old steam system which was replaced years ago. They installed an Intellicon unit on our oil burner, which will improve energy efficiency of the heating system. After the installation, Nick Granwehr, GJGNY Project Manager, did another test of the oil burner and created a vacuum in the house with a large fan to measure energy efficiency. The house is much warmer and we look forward to lower energy bills. Nick Granwehr will submit our energy related costs to NYSERDA and those costs will be eligible for a 10% rebate which will be mailed to us in one to two months.

Description of Work: We qualifed for a free energy audit and Malcarne was one of the approved contractors in our area so we chose them to do the audit. Setting the appointment was easy and the woman who works in the office is very helpful. Francisco and a trainee arrived at our house on time on the day of the inspection and were very pleasant and professional. They completed the inspection in a timely fashion. We have not received their report as of yet but I am not sure how long the process takes as it appears that they are busy completing a lot of these audits.

 + 0 moreHe was delightful to work with. He was very congenial and conscientious. His workman were the same way he was. Incredible contractor who has ethics. Over 8 years ago Joseph Malcarne did some major renovations for us. Over time, some problems arose and recently Joseph willingly agreed to fix the problems without charge. His team has worked here for a few days and the problems have been fixed. Talk about customer service! Besides doing excellent work, he stands behinds what he does. Honorable man.
Description of Work: He did major kitchen and porch renovations. He also re shingled the roofs of my house. He did some concrete work on the porches.

 + 4 moreThey were out of our budget. They had a very good record and reputation, but it was more than we wanted to spend. We used somebody else. We called them and it took a while for them to come out. We had seen them at a home show and we called and it was two weeks later before they contacted us. It took about 1 1/2 weeks to get the estimate because they had another job. Some of the things were very reasonable, but other things were too high for us.
Description of Work: We got an estimate from Malcarne Contracting for a really big project. It included roofing, siding, addition of a two-car garage, flooring, expansion of a bathroom, and new windows. The estimate also included the engineer's report.

 + -1 moreThis company is the best. Excellent work! Went above and beyond in several of the jobs that were done here. Excellent for greening your home and saving energy. Energy reading was very revealing, implemented the changes and our electric bills have gone down by almost 1/2, and heating and cooling down by at least 1/3. Every worker was polite and never a mess left in the house after the work was done.
Description of Work: Had our roof replaced with a metal roof, a game room totally redone and had insulation installed
