In 2021 during the pandemic we decided since we were home it was perfect time for a new roof. I checked around and had three vendors bid the job. First conversation with Tom made me feel comfortable. Meeting him and having his informative plan won me over completely. Work started within days with hard working respectful crew and foreman. Tom and his son were present on site most days and we always updated progress at days end. Wasp nest, leaky gutters, bay windows, roof vent and chimney flashing we all issues which popped up and were easily addressed within the original estimate. Flash forward to 2024 we noticed a leak from the chimney. My call to Tom was immediately responded to however he found that the chimney work previously done didn’t include pointing that was the current problem. For a very reasonable price they got right to work pointing and waterproofing to make everything perfect once again.

Thomas James installed new roofing material and solved the leaking roof which was leaking in several places. Also, rebuilt a second floor fire escape roof which needed new beams and roof. I highly recommend Thomas James & Company. They also gave me a Great price for the roof replacement and roof rebuilt job.

Thomas James were recommended to us by our neighbor and we have no hesitation in recommending them to anyone who needs roof repair work done. They came out very quickly to look at the needed repair work. showed us pictures of the areas that needed to be repaired and provide us with written quotes. Throughout the repair work they kept us up to date as to when the crews would be working and how long it was going to take. They then showed us pictures of the work once repairs had been completed. They also did a great job in cleaning up once work was done - we did not have to do any clean up work at all.

Tom walked the roof and took photos of problem areas. Quoted me a price and when his workers could come do the work. Did not ask for any money down; bills when all work is completed. A very good work ethic; customers won't feel a victim if work doesn't started when scheduled and they paid a deposit. Stands behind the work performed with a 5 year warranty. Not to many contractors back their work with warranties these days.

We called Thomas James for a roofing estimate and agreed on a fair price. Their team arrived early, torched Firestone material over entire roof, and cleaned up throughly by 5 pm. Very efficient and professional. Would recommend and hire again.

I was in need of a new roof and like most people, I was dreading having to deal with a contractor. I called several, and settled on Thomas James Roofing and waterproofing because the pricing was competitive but more importantly he provided options and didn't try to sell me on things I didn't need (like a new skylight, gutter or vents). I was given the option of patch work or the complete roof replacement and I choose to replace the roof. He provided a detailed, written contract. He and his workers were prompt, reliable, thorough and efficient. They also cleaned up after themselves. There were seven layers of old roofing removed and an additional layer of sheet metal. They removed and replaced any rotted wood, added a half inch layer of insulation, with a layer of base sheet and finished it with the layer of Firestone 180 white granulated rubber. They were able to do the entire job in two days time, arriving early and working until late afternoon. I wish all contractor jobs went so smoothly and professionally. I wouldn't hesitate to use them again but luckily they guaranteed the roof for 15 years.

Thomas James Roofing & Waterproofing did an excellent job with a leaky roof problem we were having and also wisely recommended we seal up our flat roof for preventative maintenance. The workers were thorough and the work came in under budget. It's a lovely family business and we would use them again in a heartbeat.

Made estimate appointment for Friday, September 3, 2pm. No show, called him at 2:30pm. He said he was in accident, would like to reschedule for Saturday, 9am, I agree. 9:20am Saturday, no show. I call, he says "OMG, where's my son. I'll call you back." Does so, says he'll be here in 1 1/2 hours. Comes with son who gives me reasonable estimate, I hire for work to be done Monday, September 6. He confirmed Sunday evening to be here 8am. Monday morn, 7:45am, he calls informing me of ANOTHER accident, no truck, tries to reschedule, I said today or none. He appears at 10:30am, awaiting another truck which appears at 11am, not his son. I ask if this is a sub out job and he said no. They again review job and start talking in hushed tones at which point I ask what's the problem, reply "Job is more than was indicated by his son." At that point I promptly dismissed everyone and said he will not do any business for me and I told him that his service was not consistent with Angi's review and I will let it be known. BEWARE!

After meeting with two other roofing companies I finally found Thomas James. He and his son inspected my roof by climbing it and gave me a good price for the job. They put five workers on the project who arrived on time each day and worked hard each day of this three day job. Workers were respectful of my property and skilled at their tasks. Mr. James was present on the site for large portions of each day explaining the work and answering my many questions. Mr. James decided to replace a portion of my gutters which were battered during the job at no cost to me. The took photos of the upper roof condition as I could not see that from the ground. Only first rate products were used on my roof and great care was taken at clean up, including removal of all loose nails with an amazing rolling magnet. The day after the job completed a major rain & wind storm hit the area testing my roof. It passed the test with flying colors. Payment was made AFTER all work and inspection completed, with no add ons or unexpected cost. Price agree upon was the price paid. I couldn’t have asked for a better job. I will only hire Thomas James Roofing & Waterproofing in the future 👍

We needed to quickly get work done on our roof and Thomas James was excellent. He was more responsive than most every roofer I've ever worked with and his team was on time and efficient. Will be my first call should we need any work on our next house.

For people reading this in future months: our leaking roof happened during the Covid19 situation. It was so great to find a profesional and responsive company. They assessed and gave a quote within a day. Two days later entire roof work was done. All business was done through email, phone calls and text. They even followed up to see if everything was ok days later. It has been a couple of weeks and has already rained heavily and no leaks!! Finally!!! During Covid19 it was great to have “contactless” service that was reliable. I highly recommend them!

Thomas was very responsive from day one. He arrived when he said he would for the estimate (in the rain, if I remember correctly). He quoted us a price the same day, which we believe was fair and then his crew completed the work in less than a day. He responded to any follow up questions and was even available to help give a referral for work that was outside his scope. Would definitely recommend and use again!

I'm very satisfied with the work done by Thomas James Roofing and Waterproofing. I called them when my regular contractor went out of business, and I am very happy with the work they did. They did a nice job on my gutters, and pointing on my old chimney and fixing some damage to trim from windstorms. Importantly, the clean up was perfect. The price was very fair. I intend to use them again for some waterproofing I need. I highly recommend this company.

I usually do not write reviews, but I was compelled to write of my impression of Thomas James Roofing. Mr. James and his son Tommy were working on a neighbor's roof, (house is attached to neighbor) and they noticed that there was some bubbling and blistering on my roof’s surface. Mr. James and son rang my doorbell to ask if I was aware of this potential problem. I told them that I was not. They explained how this can soon be an expensive and costly repair to the wooden surface under the roof. I looked at my previous warranty and it was literally expired that same month that we were discussing this issue. We discussed a price and agreed on an amount that was much more than fair. They also redid the roof over the back and front porch with top of the line (Firestone) roofing materials. Mr. James and his son Tommy provided quality service and were very professional. It is very difficult to find contractors who actually live up to what they say that they will do.I can safely say this being a homeowner for over 45 years and seeing many contractors who appear to be experts, yet ultimately are completely incompetent. I have waited over two months to post this review, because I wanted to be sure that the work they had provided would withstand heavy rains, and it has. So far we have had about three hard downpours in our area that were consistent. Thankfully there were no problems, and Mr. James has provided a lengthy guarantee to back up his work, and provide me with a piece of mind. Anthony M. Woodhaven NY.

We were getting water inside the house due to a leak on the roof and needed to get it repaired quickly before the next heavy rainfall. Mr. James and his son stopped by at a fortuitous time. He checked the roof and took photos showing what needed to be done. He saw that the worst problem was in the back of the house where the water was backing up. He assured us he could clean up the entire roof surface and install a new rubber roof and fix the parapet walls. He also reflashed the coping tiles along the edge and installed a drain filter. His crew got to work the next morning and we had a new covered roof by the end of the workday. He again showed us photos of the completed job and it certainly looked 100% better. While he was here he checked out the side wall which we knew needed work and gave us a fair price to repair all the bulging and cracking paint over the brickwork. His team repaired all the cracks, put two coats of sealant on the walls and also power washed the front and back walls. The crew worked very efficiently and removed all debris at the end of the day. The whole job took two and a half days and it looked beautiful. He also gave us a 10 year warranty.

Tom was very quick and was able to come out the day we called to give us an estimate. Since his crew was finishing up a job nearby, they came that evening to prep the roof for an 8 am start time the next morning. They were very punctual and quick and finished the roof in about 1/2 a day with 4 guys. The crew brings ladders so they can access your roof from the outside so they do not have to come through the apt space with tar and tools — I thought this was very considerate. We had the interior patching and painting of the ceiling done a few weeks later to make sure there were no additional leaks. They were very detail oriented with this work and did a great job. We were given a 5 year warranty for the roof.
