Extremely dishonest, poor business acumen, and I would definitely recommend you take your business elsewhere. The owner was rude when I called to question my bill he left it as “too bad it’s all your problem now”. If that were the case I wouldn’t be writing this review. However, their dishonest practices and inability to respond with decency leave me no choice. A cable snapped in my garage door. I called to see when they could come fix it. The call was answered by voicemail and I was given a cell number to call. When I did, Justin answered the call. I asked when they could come take a look at my door. He stated it depends where you are and what the problem is. I explained the issue that a cable broke. He stated he was going on a hike and would call me after to let me know if he could come over or possibly tomorrow. I said no problem, call me when you are free. After the hike, around 5 PM he called and said he was available and would be over in 20 minutes. This is where things are a little shady. I’ve waited this long while he went on a hike so clearly this is not an emergency that needs to be fixed asap. It’s almost 5 PM at this point and it should have been explained that if he comes now it will be billed as an emergency, if I wait a day it will be significantly cheaper. In any event that did not happen, he came, was there for no more than 20 minutes, forgot the paperwork and said he would send me a bill in the mail. The bill arrived 2 days later for a very unreasonable amount of 275 and some change. I was charged for 2 cables totaling 35.00 and the rest was labeled as Fixing the door at an “Emergency Rate”. It when on to say how he greased the door, made adjustments, and listened for irregular noises. Odd how you grease a door with no grease. The other fluff charges that occurred were nonsense as well. If I get my muffler fixed, they don’t tell me they started the car and listened for noise and checked for leaks, I just assume that is part of the job. In any event, I paid the bill as I respect the process and understand the business has expenses too. The owner, was inflexible, rude, and unwilling to see this from any perspective other than his own. As he was about to hang up on me I claimed I would be issuing a review for this debacle. He said, why would you do that? Why wouldn’t I is the question, other people need to know about businesses like these that take advantage of people and are dishonest with their policies and lack communication. I’ll close by saying $275 – $35 for parts give me $240 for 20 minutes work. If I’m reasonable, which I’m trying to be here, I’ll give them the 20 minute each way of travel time for a total of 1 hour of billable work. Can you please explain how a garage door technician makes $240.00 per hour? Even skilled trades (plumbing and electrical work) don’t charge that amount in this area, it is absolutely insane. Lastly, I checked after the fact on the Better Business Bureau to see what I could find on this company (Winchip Overhead Door Sweet Rd Queensbury). Low and behold they are not BBB accredited. Plenty others in this area are and that’s who I’ll be using next time (you should look elsewhere too).

It seemed a little pricey but otherwise the service was good. I called and left a message and they responded pretty quickly; I left a message on a Friday and they responded on a Monday morning which is fine.

Winchip doors did a great job- they bid it efficiently, they did the work when scheduled, they cleaned up and they instructed me on the use and care of the doors and openers. One minor problem: they had to order doors; it took longer than they suggested- by at least two weeks- and they didn't tell me what was going on so I had to call a few times. But, in the end they installed a better door than I had ordered- just to get the job done- and I appreciated that very much. I'd use them again.

I DID HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE INSTALLATION BUT I DO HAVE A WARRANTY OF 25 YEARS. I AM PRETTY HAPPY WITH THEM. THERE WAS DAMAGE ON TWO PANELS OF THE DOORS AND THEY NEVER AND BROUGHT IT TO MY ATTENTION. I HAD TO CALL THE OWNER IN ORDER TO GET IT TAKEN CARE OF.
