They provided the lowest estimate. I usually hesitate to go with the lowest, but there was a positive reference from the architect so I went with Tim Warren. Tim is a decent sort of guy, but in my opinion he is in the wrong business. It rapidly became a nightmare working with him and his crew. His workers, also nice guys, had little direction and would frequently be hanging around for hours waiting for Tim to come and give them direction. Plumbers and electricians were changed in midstream because the previous ones weren't being paid. One electrician even slapped a lien against me because of a payment dispute with Warren. Getting the windows was another nightmare. Unknown to me for a long time, his supplier would not extend him credit for the window order.I was told repeatedly that the windows were coming and they never did. I finally contacted the supplier and found the reason, and I had to get directly involved in ordering the windows. When they finally came (four months after the job was supposed to be finished and after house wrap and most of the siding was in place), they didn't fit the openings which had to be widened. I finally fired him as winter was coming and I still had no heat or water. Four years later and I am still correcting his shoddy work ... sloppy painting, poorly done staining on doors and woodwork, resetting of a patio door unit that was leaking, removing woodwork to properly insulate the perimeter .... all at great additional expense. The house is finally getting to where I want it on a project that was promised to be done on time and provide me with a state of the art dwelling. Hardly! If you see Warren Custom Builders coming, run very quickly in the other direction!
Description of Work: The project was to provide a 2000+ sq. ft. addition to an existing 1000 sq ft residence and to do some renovation work on the existing house. Detailed architectural plans were provided. The architect met with prospective contractors to explain the project and take questions. After receiving estimates, a general contractor was selected, the contract was signed and work began in the late fall of 2008.
