Briggs did a tremendous job! Our driveway sunk and crumbled, they came in and completely removed the old driveway, and put in and enlarged a new driveway. All other quotes were for 6 inches down and 2.5" cap, they did a full 12 inches down and a 4" cap. for a nearly 3,000 square foot driveway, there isn't a single spot that hold water after the storm. They even had to bring in 2 extra trucks of the sub layer due to 3 massive tree stumps under the old driveway. Amazing job, thank you Jenna and David!!!

They fixed my driveway at the end of the season. Every seem and patch the put in has opened up worse then before they touched it. It rained the same day and wash off the sealer and now they don’t return phone calls. They refuse to return calls or repair the driveway.

I have mixed results with Briggs, some good points, some bad. My main complaint is that I was billed for more than the contract price, without notice or prior approval (thus my failing grade for price). The work also took much longer than expected, and was in some ways short of expectations, but in other ways well done. I chose Briggs over a lower bid contractor because Briggs promised a better job (new base and 2 layers of pavement: 2 1/2 inches of binder, which is a coarser asphalt for strength, and 1 1/2 inches of top coat of finer asphalt for a smooth finish; another contractor bid just one layer of pavement, also with new base). I also asked Briggs about using fabric under the base (which further stabilizes the pavement), but they never gave me a price for that. I had a contract prepared for removal and replacement of my driveway that was failing, in part because the original driveway was built on a poor base. I knew I had clay soil in my yard, and told the estimator I expected there was clay under the driveway too so I'd need a better base, and they wrote a contract specifying "Full removal of existing drive. Excavate + Grade with item 4 processed gravel as needed for proper pitch and stability", with an added footnote on the contract "soil may contain clay". I expected this covered dealing with the clay (which should be removed for stability, because it softens when wet). After preparation of the base was completed, I was mailed a bill for an additional $1000 for removal of the clay, and a new contract containing a "Rock/clay clause: If rock or clay is found during the install of driveway and interferes with completing the layout, an additional charge will be added according to work done". This clause was NOT in the original contract I signed. I was present when the estimator prepared the contract and for the whole time the work was being done, and was never advised there would be an additional charge until I received a bill in the mail. Since I advised the estimator up front about the clay, and my original contract specified excavating and grading "as needed", I believe this work should have been covered by the original contract. I signed a contract for a complete job, not a time and materials contract, and believe the contractor has not honored his contract in this regard. As for time to complete the work, this was done in the fall of a year that remained warm and mostly dry weather until nearly Christmas. At the time I signed the contract I was told verbally that paving should take about 2 days of work to complete. I was also working with another landscape contractor for adjoining work, and had them pause so paving could be completed. Briggs began work Nov. 21, preparing the base. A worker told me they'd return Nov. 25 to begin paving, but they did not (they did tell me the ground needed some time to dry; the weather remained dry). I finally called to inquire where they were, and they returned on Dec. 11. They installed the first layer of asphalt, and told me the top layer would be installed on another day. I then waited for them to return and install the top layer. After waiting I called again on Dec 18 to ask when they could finish. But the unseasonably warm weather was ending, and asphalt plants were closing for the season, and they told me they would not be able to finish until spring. They left the jobsite with unprotected loose soil along the sides on a hill with with no erosion control (and my landscaping contractor couldn't finish either, because we needed the pavement completed). In February heavy rain caused considerable washout of the loose soil, undermining the new pavement and leaving the pavement covered in dirt. Some of this washed into the road and into a storm drain. I called Briggs twice and left messages telling them they needed to clean this up, then followed up with a letter on March 2. They did not respond, until finally returning April 23 to inspect. Mr. Briggs first question was to me was asking me why I had not cleaned up the dirt that washed onto the driveway. I told him I thought I had hired him to do the job. They returned on April 25 to repair the damage and complete paving, but did not bring enough asphalt, and ran out 10 feet short of the end. They returned again on April 27 to finish, leaving a seam where the 2nd pavement met the first (they used an infrared heater to try to blend the seam, but it's still an obvious seam). A couple of months later, the town came and removed and replaced their storm drain, I'm not sure if this was due to the washout of Brigg's unprotected work filling it with dirt. As for quality of work, in some ways it was well done. They used all the right equipment, including skid-steer loaders, multiple dump trucks, a backhoe, a total of 3 different rollers, paver, and even sealed the joint where my driveway meets the road. The depth of the item 4 processed gravel base they installed varied, but by my estimate by the number of truckloads of material they brought, it's probably about 2 1/2 inches. But this varied. In some places it was thicker, and in others it was not much more than 1 stone deep (I used a wire probe to check). The pavement was also somewhat thinner than specified in the contract, which I initially believed to be the case because the asphalt required to pave to the specified depth and area should have been more than the legal load limit of the 1 tri-axle truckload they brought. This was confirmed when parts of the edges washed out over the winter. My contract specifed 2.5 inches of binder "after compaction". In areas where the washout occurred, I was able to reach under the pavement, and measured between 1 5/8 to 1 7/8 inches of pavement (mostly closer to 1 5/8). I told the contractor about this, and told him to bring extra for the top coat to make up, but I don't think he did, in fact, he ran out of pavement when doing the top coat. In addition, I think I have a couple of areas where both the base and top coat are thinner than average (at the road end, where I think he started trying to stretch the aspahlt as he ran low), and over the crest of a hill, where his paver broke through the base while preparing to pave the top coat. At that point I could see the base there looked like not a lot more than an inch (I didn't measure at that point, because they were working and soon filled in the hole with top coat asphalt). In preparing the base, they did take out a lot of clay and soil, but they didn't use as much item 4 gravel and pavement to build a new base, and parts of my driveway ended up below the original grade. I was left to fix the edges. They also paved the main part of my driveway a foot narrower than my previous driveway, leaving rubble in the gap that was no longer paved. I didn't ask for a narrower driveway. I also had a small expansion included in my contract, and had a bit of trouble getting them to shape it the way I intended, after they didn't square off their initial excavation (I should have painted markings on the ground for exactly what I wanted). All in all it's done, looks pretty good, is hopefully well enough done that it should hold up even though it may not quite meet the specifications in the contract (which unfortunately is relatively common with paving contractors, according to a construction inspector I know). But I'm not happy about being billed more than expected or having the job take so long to get done.

Subsequently they stayed in touch as to when they were coming, very professional. They showed up with a huge amount of equipment and several men who worked steadily, carefully and meticulously. They did an absolutely beautiful job. Everyone was neat, polite and very careful not to damage my garden. I couldn't be happier with the outcome.
Description of Work: We had our garage floor replaced by another contractor who poured the new concrete 1 inch too low and uneven. Six to eight inches of blacktop was removed to accommodate a form needed to contain the concrete when it was poured. Consequently we were left with a six to eight inch gap between concrete and blacktop and the blacktop was higher than the concrete. We called Briggs to remedy the situation. They came, advised us, and gave us an estimate, which we accepted.

The crew was punctual and extremely courteous. Shortly after the crew left, it started to rain unexpectedly. They returned immediately, and took steps to protect our garage by placing paper on the garage door, and drying the blacktop near the garage with a propane torch. They also advised us to extend the time before driving on our driveway if the rain continued. I feel that we were treated with the utmost professionalism by this crew.

They installed my driveway and pitched it wrong so that water would flood my garage everytime it rained. I called them back several times to come and fix the problem, they came once and tried to heat the driveway up and tamp it down which did absolutely nothing! After that they just would not return my calls. So $5000 dollars later the problem is fixed but not by them. Good luck getting them to come back once your check is cashed. Save yourself the nightmare and call someone else to do your driveway!

I recommend Briggs Paving without any reservations. I knew the approximate square feet of the driveway. When I called them for an estimate they were able to give it to me right away, and emailed a written estimate that day. We agreed that they could schedule the work when they had a crew coming to Red Hook for other work. We were away on summer vacation and they emailed a few days before they wanted to come. They came while we were away and did the job, but both our neighbors and our son-in law, who dropped over, said that they were extremely professional and did a really beautiful job. We paid online with a credit card. When we got home the driveway looked beautiful, and it has held up very well through a rough winter. From start to finish Briggs was easy to deal with, professional in every aspect, and did a wonderful job. Just wish I had used them for the original paving.

If you want a very high quality driveway I highly recommend Briggs If you want someone who communicates and sets expectations, look elsewhere. The estimator said it is usually 2 to 3 weeks, but we waited for 2 months with next to no communication except what I initiated. When they started the job they found the base under the original driveway to be substandard and the estimator said it would cost more to do the job right. OK, I understand. When I complained they had left the driveway a safety hazard (dug up with a bit of a drop into large rocks), the Owner came out on a Saturday (I was impressed) and with his crew, finished the grading, installed the additional rocks to complete the bed and added the initial layer of asphalt. At that time he said; yes, it would be more than the initial estimate, but it would be hundreds, not thousands of dollars. When the bill came in, it was nearly $2000 more than the initial estimate. I called the office to inquire what happened, but never had the courtesy of a return call. Fantastic driveway, lousy communications.

I contacted Briggs Paving for an estimate to reseal my driveway. An estimator came out within 2 days and quoted me a price of $315, excluding taxes, based on 1836 square feet. I had my driveway sealed about 2 1/2 years prior for a cost of $245.00, excluding taxes, so given the time and increase in fuel cost, I felt this price was very fair and reasonable, and signed up to have Briggs perform the job. At that time I was told they would schedule the job and I would receive a call with a date. It took about three weeks before I received a call due to fact this is busy time of season. The crew that was sent to reseal my driveway were professional, courteous and very friendly. At the time, I was expecting they would reseal by spraying the driveway, similar to the previous reseal that was done. The crew advised they reseal by hand and explained the benefits of doing it this way, but would spray on the reseal if that's what I wanted. I elected to have it manually applied. They completed the job in about 30-40 minutes, including prep and their work was excellent.

The service was great. Very professional and fast to respond. They did everything in 2 days. The first to dig out the old stuff and level and create the new space, they left some equipment in the driveway overnight. The next day they came with the paving crew and put 2 levels of asphalt down. At first I thought the price was pretty high but once you see what all they have to do it is worth it. They had about 6-8 workers and have to work fast to deal with hot asphalt. They created the edges of the driveway very neatly and the seam to the road was great. They also did a good job putting the ashalt upto the garage door seam and around the paver stones on our walkway.
Description of Work: Briggs paving dug up all of our old driveway and leveled it, created a new side space for an additional parking spot, and repaved the whole thing. Our driveway isn't huge, you can fit about 3 cars and now an extra one on the side.

I have used Briggs paving several times to pave different sections of a very long, steep and curving driveway. They have always done excellent work in sometimes difficult situations such as satisfying a request to pave one section on a slant, in other words with greater height of pavement on one side than another so that a car if sliding on ice, would slide AWAY from the edge of a drop-off rather than toward it. They were able to do this very well. If I need further paving I feel no need to consider anyone else.
