I was livid! I ask "just what do you do, then?" "Oh we clean chimneys, furnaces, and inserts for people who buy from us! Our fireplace was placed in when we built the house 9 years ago now. "What you are saying, then," I asked the woman on the other end of line, is" you don't want to even look at our situation, even if it turned into a new sales for you?" Her clear answer was , "No!" And she hung up! I was never so annoyed at a merchant in my life! When we travel past the store, both my wife and I avoid looking at it. It may have burned down for all I know! Don't care!!!
Description of Work: Nothing! That was the problem! We were having problems with our gas insert fireplace, called them to see if they could send a technician to our house to see what was wrong! We gave an example of symptoms. The first response was, "no we don't do gas fireplace repair, we only sell new ones! Then it was, "you couldn't afford us anyway!" We require a repair fee of $400 before we will venture to any house!" I found out later that they have a sliding scale for the surcharge, depending on how nice the house is!!!

When I got it home my husband and I had to cut the plastic away in order to unload it. We carried the smaller box into the house and put it in the master bedroom where it is going to be installed. The larger box was much heavier so we had to open it and carried all the pieces individually up to the bedroom. The items in that box were in perfect condition, but frankly the box looked completely undisturbedifferent and I find it hard to believe it had ever been opened. We didn't get around to installing it until about 2 months later. When my husband opened the smaller box containing the actual fireplace he discovered it was seriously damaged, and appears to have been crushed by something heavy being placed on it. (My husband is a structural engineer). When we contacted Ashleigh's they refused to do anything, insisting that they had inspected it, I had signed that it was in new condition and that it looked like it had fallen off a truck. I pointed out that I was never given the opportunity to inspect it myself and was forced to rely on their representation, that it did not look like it had fallen off a truck and that they loaded it onto my truck so that would be their responsibility if in fact that is what happened (which is NOT the case). They also pointed out we had picked it up 2 months ago. I argued that their reasons for not helping us would be the same if I'd called a week later so that was just nonsense. They absolutely either knew it was damaged when they loaded it or they never inspected and just lied about it because they are apparently supposed to inspect in order to have any recourse.
Description of Work: I ordered a Valor gas fireplace from them as they are listed on Valor's website as an authorized dealer of their products. Theyou called me when it came in and I went to pick it up. They asked me to sign a receipt that I accepted deluvery and it was in new condition. The employee assured me that they inspect every fireplace when it comes in. I signed and another employee went and got it using a forklift, it was two boxes, 1 very large and a smaller one on top all wrapped onto a wooden pallet with plastic.

Response from ASHLEIGH'S HEARTH & HOME INC
To whom it may concern, This letter is in response to a complaint from [member name removed]. I had first received a call from [member name removed] and he had initially said he had purchased the unit and it appeared the top trim was bent in a corner and asked for a replacement trim. I had explained to him that his wife had signed off when she had picked it up that she received it in new condition. This conversation occurred two months after the purchase He stated that he wanted to repair the unit. He did not know which part it was so I asked him if he could email me a picture and I would review it and see if we could get the part along with pricing and availability pending the picture. I received the email (attached) and called [member name removed] and spoke to [member name removed] explaining to him that the unit in my opinion looked like it fell off a truck and possibly could not be fixed and would need to be replaced. He said he understood due to his wife signing for it and the time lapse. I contacted our representative to see if there was anything that he could do and emailed our representative the pictures, and his response was too much time had lapsed from the date of purchase. I then received a call from [member name removed] very upset and I had explained to her as well that she had signed for it and over 2 months had gone by and she had explained that the house was under construction and the unit was kept in the hallway. She was pretty irate and said she would not only give us a bad review and report us to The Better Business Bureau she would call the manufacture and put a complaint about us (which she did). I had called our representative and he had responded to [member name removed] via email (attached) and [member name removed] response back. It is unfortunate that this has happened but [member name removed] did sign for it in new condition and that is over 2 months ago and anything could have happened to it in a house that was under construction. Please note we will offer a replacement unit at a deep discounted rate of $1000.00+ tax. We are sorry that this has happened to her. If you have any questions please contact me. Sincerely, Tracey Bower Store Manager

It went very well. The 2 men who did the installation were very professional and helpful. They were very patient and answered all of our questions. We would absolutely recommend Ashleigh's Hearth and Home to family and friends.

We did not have Ashleigh install the fireplace. We had a reputable gas company install the unit. In November 2013 the fireplace did not work for the Thanksgiving holiday. I called Ashleigh in the beginning of December to set up an appointment to come and diagnose the problem, for a ridiculous amount. They promised to get back to me. After several more phone calls and no call backs we decided to call a gas technician that was recommended to us. In the end, we had our fireplace working for the Christmas season and our bill was 75% less than was quoted for the service call.
Description of Work: We purchased a $1431.00 gas fire place log set in September 2010.
