The sheet rocking was poorly done- I've had to have the contractors return to fix patches where errors were made. Of course the walls don't look new if they are patched. The errors involve electrical work: one wall sconce was installed at a different height from the neighboring wall sconce and a new hole had to be made. There is a second patch near an electrical panel. The new walls that we paid for are pretty lumpy. I feel that a good contractor would have re-sheetrocked after making a couple of errors. The contractor tried to convince me to use a base molding that I didn't want. While we were discussing other options he then went ahead and bought it without consulting me. We had to pay for the molding and labor for ugly molding that we have to pay to dispose. There was no concession offered for what I feel was Ample's error. When I asked how much it would cost to add insulation to the open walls I was told by one of the team: "don't worry about it". We were then charged $350. I'm not sure if it was a miscommunication or if they think 350.00 is nothing. I wanted the floors finished with a no-VOC finish. This caused nothing but argument. I finally said that we would have someone else, who had experience with hard wax, finish the floors. In the end it worked out, but I would say 50% of our interactions were dominated by this debate about the finish that I selected. We did not make a big deal about some of the damage to sheetrock that occurred during demo. At the end of the job I pointed out the damage and asked that it was fixed. The contractor smeared some joint compound on the one spot that I had pointed to, but not to the damage they created that was one foot away. In many cases the new wood floors does not fall within 1/2" of the walls, so there will be gaps between the base molding and the floor.
Description of Work: removed a half wall, reinforced walls, installed a sliding glass door, sheet rocked a room, installed and finished hardwood floors.
