If I could give American Relocators 10 stars, I would. From the initial contact, to estimate, to confirmation, through the moving day -> PROFESSIONAL, CUSTOMER CENTRIC, RESPECTFUL, TONS OF CARE. Amazing people! I was in excellent hands from start to finish.

It went very poorly. Just before move, I was told the cost would increase because of some very murky issues that were never mentioned when the initial quote was often. AVOID THIS COMPANY AT ALL COSTS, THEY'RE DISHONEST!

Gary, the man who owns this company was cooperative, agreeable & reasonable until he arrived with the movers on moving day. He held me “hostage”for two hours until I signed a stack of paperwork basically signing away any responsibility on his part for my things. He wouldn’t even allow the movers into my apt to move things until I signed & threatened to leave several times if I didn’t sign. I had one item, a very fragile Venetian glass floor lamp that cannot be replaced I impressed upon him multiple times how fragile it was & he committed to them packing so it “will be perfect!” I watched it being packed & expressed my concern that it wasn’t enough to protect it but was condescended to telling me “we know what we’re doing.” I’ve moved this lamp 3x without a problem. The base of the lamp showed up cracked. It’s ruined. Almost every one of my boxes is crushed with grease stains on the bottoms. One was soaked in grease. I haven’t unpacked yet so don’t know the extent of the damage. My coffee table leg was snapped off & the shelf jammed so tight into the top it can’t be moved. Total loss. Also don’t expect to be compensated. I had a commitment window for delivery since this was long distance from CT to Charlotte, NC, which he also juggled. They’re coming, they’re not coming, they’re coming, they’re not coming. This went on for 4 days. He blamed hurricane Florence first but when it took longer for it to reach inland he would just say “maybe tomorrow.” We agreed on a delivery time when he finally told me they would deliver, 4 days later, 10AM, then he texted me the night before and changed it to “7:30-9:30AM” even though the movers stayed at a local hotel. They called at 6:50AM to say they were 10 minutes away, then showed up after 9AM. The movers were nice people but it was clear they were not going to mess with Gary or say anything that could get them in trouble with him. They claimed they had no idea why or how my boxes were crushed or what the grease was. They witnessed my unpacking the floor lamp & finding the cracked base. I have photos of everything but don’t expect to get any compensation from this company. Do not hire them! Bait & switch. I won’t ever use Angie’s List again & will spread the word they don’t vet their “certified providers” or vet the reviews. I’ll see whether or not this is posted.

American Relocators were easy to deal with. Gary always answered the phone and worked with me as I made changes in the inventory of items to be moved. The actual movers, Kenny and Loren, were very nice, polite, efficient and careful. They moved my most prized family heirloom and it arrived in perfect condition. They also moved several glass tops tables with no issues.

On the whole, I would recommend this vendor. I appreciated the responsiveness of the project lead, who respected my wishes to be contacted via email rather than on the phone. He offered a courtesy in-person estimate, on the house, which helped us to feel confident in their ability to perform the work without adding unexpected costs. On our move day, the movers elected last-minute to delay by one hour due to weather. Although they attempted to make up for this delay by bringing additional employees to the job, unforeseen difficulties added even more delay, resulting in an arrival at our new apartment 2.5 hours later than our scheduled loading dock time. The movers themselves were respectful and focused on the job. One additional piece of feedback: while these movers did wrap our key pieces of furniture in shrink wrap, they intentionally tore that shrink wrap to help them grab a hold of the objects (e.g. mattress and wardrobe). We were disappointed with this, as it partially defeated the point of shrink wrapping these objects.

Great 3 guys all friendly and attentive arrive on time NO WAITING FOR THE came when they said they would. It was also nice to have pros to help make sure everything was moved with no damage. I was really happy with the whole process
