Mr. Kelly returned my message within 2 hours and he was able to schedule an appointment within 2 days. He was actaully very prompt - in fact he was a 1/2 hour early for the appointiment - impressive. He and his partner were polite and professional as we showed them the cracks in the retaining wall and limestones which were mainly caused by water seeping through. I also asked him to look at the upstairs porch which was causing water damage to the first floor ceiling and he said that someone specializing in roofing would be more appropriate for that job and he was kind enough to provide a referral. As for the outdoor tiles on the porch, I was surprised when he said they were indoor tiles. A handful have become loose, but it's only natural since it's been 18 years since that project was done. The rain, snow and salt throughout the years have caused them to loosen up - but the majority are still holding up very well. I have since asked other contractors and all have confirmed that the tiles are definitely outdoor tiles not indoor - I suppose Mr. Kelly's knowledge with tiles is limited. I found it odd that Mr. Kelly did not take any measurements, but at the end he promised to mail me an estimate. This Saturday will be 2-weeks and I haven't heard or seen an estimate from Mr. Kelly. I guess that's his way of saying he's not interested in the project.
Description of Work: Retaining wall in need of maintenance (some bricks and limestones cracked) and replace outdoor tiles on porch and stairway landing.

I can highly recommend Tim and his company did a fabulous job of re-doing the patio/brickwork around our pool. It was a complicated job and Tim did it in the time and on budget. He worked with us to make sure it would be done at the time we need to have it completed. Everyone who has seen it could not believe what a great meticulous job Stonewall did for us. I would definitely use Stonewall again for other projects.

We called Tim Kelly in late December after reading his strong reviews on Angie's List. He came almost immediately to the property. Along with the quote, Tim provided numerous references which was impressive. It took us a while to make a decision on what to do, and some time had lapsed since we had originally contacted Tim. However, once we called him, he was very prompt responding and assembling his crew to do the work. The project started and was completed in the time expected. The crew was professional and courteous. They took great care to ensure that they cleaned up after themselves. It appears that they did a thorough job and the chimney looks great. After hiring them for the chimney project, we also asked them to look at the foundation of the house where we had experienced some water damage. At a nominal cost, they repaired a few cracks in the foundation that they found. I would recommend Stonegate Construcution and plan to use them again for future projects.
Description of Work: After finding a leak in our chimney, we hired Stonegate Construction to repair it which included cutting and pointing all joints from the roofline up on the chimney, installing sealant between the flashing and brick, installing a new concrete collar and sealing the chimney with an anti-water sealant.

Stonegate Construction was one of three masons that I contacted based on their great reviews on Angie's List. Tim Kelly was very responsive. He came and did the estimate when he said that he would. His price was not the lowest, however his experience with building in this area, (and particularly in White Plains), tipped the decision in his favor. His team of masons showed up and rebuilt our leaning stone wall. It's a great looking wall and the rebuilt steps are wonderful. The drainage issue, which caused the wall to lean in the first place, was fixed. He also oversaw the re-paving of our driveway (asphalt). Tim and his crew are very professional. The project came in at the stated price. It was an excellent experience. He does a great job.
Description of Work: We needed to get our driveway re-done. It had been done when the house was built in 1957 and the amount of sealer that had been applied made it a slick, though cracked, surface. Before the driveway could be re-built, a stone wall next to it had to be re-built first. Improper drainage had forced the wall to lean toward the drive way. I was looking for a contractor who could rebuild the wall and get the driveway repaved with asphalt.

StoneGate Masonry was one of three masons I contacted to do work on an aging chimney which began leaking water into the firebox and saturating the interior wall above and floor near the fireplace. They came in at right about the midpoint on the cost and had the experience we needed to solve the water issue immediately. Tim Kelly arrived on time, was responsive to my calls and e-mail (however he stated that he was more of a "phone call" type of person) and very knowledgeable. During the survey we also asked for a quote on the demo and rebuild of a deteriorating walkway and stair landing for a possible future project. The price was on par with that of another company who we used to complete a new retaining wall but were not 100% satisfied with the process from proposal to work completion. Tim's estimate and proposal were both presented professionally, detailed, and included a number of references to attest to the work StoneGate completed in my area. We were very happy with Tim's responsiveness to our questions and his suggestions on keeping the scope of the project within our budget while getting everything we had on our wishlist. We first completed the chimney scope and were extremely pleased with the results. The workers were on time, courteous, and met with Tim each morning on site to ensure the details of the day's work were determined in advance. Since the repair we have not experienced any water seepage in our family room. We engaged StoneGate for the second part of our project which was the walkway and stair landing. Tim provided us with options on pavers, stone samples for the risers, and stucco color palate. He was very helpful with narrowing down choices and selecting a pattern that we were very happy with. The work was done over the course of a two week period due to intermittent rain however no detail of our discussions was left unattended to. StoneGate's work was beautifully finished and now showcases our entryway so much more beautiful then before.

Owner was very responsive at first, but then forgot who I was each time I called and lost the original quote. I had to fax it back to him. He said he changed his computer and fax and lost everything. Work quality was good, however, I had some issues with the color of the grout he used on my chimney since he used a bright white which stood out and didn't blend in. This was never discussed ahead of time so we could choose the right color before the job began. Now, after a lot of debate, we agreed to keep it as is and hope it darkens with age. While the masonry work was good, working with the owner was more challenging than I would have liked. I would not use him again for this reason.

I LOVE my new stairs even though Stonegate did not do the work.
Description of Work: I had my front stairs and part of a stone retaining wall rebuilt after last winter really did a lot of damage to them. (They weren't in the best shape going into that winter to begin with. We got a number of estimates before we had the work done - 3 of which came from Angie's List. We finally went with the recommendation of the landscape architect who drew up plans for the new stairs. Stonegate's estimate was probably the highest we received, but the estimate package they submitted gave me a very high comfort level that the job would be professionally handled. One problem that I had with them was that they would not replace the wrought iron railing that we had. We had to find someone who did that work. Not for nothing, none of the masons we spoke to were of any assistance regarding the railing; not even a recommendation of anyone they knew who did that kind of work. I would have thought that since they took they railing down, they would have put it back up; at least give us a couple of names to call given that stairs and railings tend to go hand-in-hand (pun intended.) The job took approx 3-4 weeks from start to finish due to a number of rain delays.

Called Tim's office and he returned my call in about 2 hours. He came over and looked at my chimney a couple of days later and I got a detailed proposal 2 days later. The proposal included about 6 pages of references as well. I faxed the accepted proposal back to his office and about a week later he called, set up a date and performed the work which took 2 days to complete. He showed up a few times throughout the project to check on his crew. His crew was very professional and spent a good amount of time each day cleaning up. After they finished I couldn't even tell they were here except for the fact that my chimney was fixed. I would definitely use Stonegate again in the future.

I sed this compnay for an estimate and we plan on using them in the Spring 2012 for the work. The owner Tim Kelly was very prompt and professional. When I called for an estimate and left a message he returned my call within a few hours. He came within a few days for an estimate and then returned a few days later to personally hand me the estimate. He spent a considerable amount of time speaking with me about my options and explained things that I did not understand. The estimate was well-prepared. There was even an attached list of people in the area that the company had completetd work for. To be claer, we have not had the work done so far so I cannot comment on the quality but so far I am quite pleased with the company.

Tim came to inspect and give us a proposal within a week when we first called him. When we agreed to do the job he expected to have it done within a month but job was completed about 2 and a half months later. This was not a problem as it was summer and we didn't need the chimney fixed urgently since we weren't using it. Once the job was started it was finished in 2 days as promised and work was done well as far as we could tell and area was cleaned up satisfactorily.

The roof has a very steep pitch, so am only able to look at it from the ground with binoculars. It looks beautiful! The works is very clean. Tim Kelly was very professional. He promptly returned my initial call and quickly went over and sent an estimate with the work clearly detailed. The work was done quickly and in a workmanlike manner. It only cost $300 more than I paid 13 years ago.
Description of Work: Repair of stone chimney - scaffold off entire chimney, cut & point all joints, existing mortar cut by grinders & chisel guns. All dust & debris removed, loose deteriorated mortar removed. Joints filled with new mortar using Type II Portland cement. Installed new concrete collar with adequate pitch for proper run-off. I spoke with 3 chimney repair firms and Tim's estimate came out in the middle. Tim struck me as very professional and competent and his proposal "made sense" so I decided to go with him. During the course of the work a large piece of flue pipe fell onto the fireplace damper inside the stone chimney and broke the damper off. Tim inspected the damage and promptly replaced the entire damper at his cost - this was a decent size replacement since it was a large fireplace and a large damper. This kind of professionalism is rare when it comes to dealing with contractors. The repointing and repair work on the stone and brick chimney also came out great. I would definitely use them again and recommend them for the peace-of-mind that you get from hiring a competent contractor.
Description of Work: I needed to have the following done: - repoint full stone chimney - repair chimney cap area that was damaged by previous chimney repair firm - repoint top half of separate brick chimney - replace/install fireplace damper on 20+ inch fireplace (not originally planned - see below)
