Just Decks

This was a very small job, taking down a small porch, fixing post holes to bring up to building code, and constructing a new screen in porch. They said they would send me an estimate and I even sent them a reminder email for the estimate but they did not send one. I feel it was because my job was too small.

We were given estimates for two size replacement decks. Due to family death, we had to wait 6 months and then we reconnected with company. Leblanc informed us they costs went up and we were ok with that. I followed up to schedule a date to begin and I was informed they couldn't do the lower cost deck/smaller deck anymore because it wasn't profitable. I asked when the larger deck could be completed and the office manager was going to call me back and never did. Left a really bad feeling as I heard good things about them. Would never contact them again. Not very good business practices.

Our new deck looks great! We had a misunderstanding but Donald, the owner, he addressed our concern within a day and the end work came out great. The team that came did great work and completed the entire project in just a few days.

All went fine with the deck until the very last day, and this is why I have to give them the rating I did (and it's not the worker's fault at all; this is all about the owner, LeBlanc). I would have reviewed this much earlier, but didn't have an Angies List subscription at the time of this work. As the deck was being built, we were also having work done in the basement, which Donald apparently nosed around in without permission. We were re-doing the walls and lights. As they were still there, our local building inspector stopped in. I thought the timing was extremely suspicious, so I asked Donald if he called them. He didn't deny he did; he simply said, "why didn't you use us for this job too?" So, HE TURNED US IN!!! Not content with his $20,000 fee, which he was paid in full, HE WANTED IT ALL!! So, if you don't have the foresight to name your company something other than which implies you only do ONE THING, which is DECKS, why would you expect a homeowner to even ask you to do anything else? He has an angry temper, and I was so furious at what he did. He cost us more money and much more time...the whole basement project was delayed months. So, if you want an honest person, I'm afraid you'll have to get another company. By the way, the step down from our deck to the flagstone was set so poorly to this day it leaks into our basement.

Our old 14'x14' deck was still sturdy - but not very attractive, and it had a horizontal railing that interfered with the view of the yard that I worked so hard to make into an oasis. I got 3 estimates. Donald's was by far the most reasonable. We met and discussed the project. He answered all my questions and was very detailed about the process. The flooring, railing and steps were all removed. The new materials went down on the existing framework (which, fortunately, was built to last an eternity.) We chose a 2-toned wood grained, textured Transcend TREX decking with a black Reveal Railing/balusters. (TREX comes with wonderful hidden fasteners for the floorboards.) All in all - an elegant appearance to go with our bronze toned deck furniture. I can't say enough about how wonderfully this project turned out! Kelly and Dean's workmanship is AMAZING, their attention to detail EXACT!!! They did an excellent job of carving the space for the dogwood that grows out of the deck. Every concern I had was addressed. They were even careful not to trample on the plants along the baseline of the deck! Donald went beyond the original plan - making aesthetic changes that improved the look of the deck: adding new flashing against the house, and a taller facia to hide the girders under the deck from view when sitting in the yard. He also went beyond the project to assist with two other problems that were not related to the deck - which I appreciated immensely. Every day, Kelly and Dean cleaned up the work area. These guys are talented, patient, and very friendly. We now have a deck we are THRILLED with - have already invited friends over for a BBQ - just to show it off! Check out the before and after photos - and you'll see why I highly recommend Just Decks - for their professionalism, expertise, and all around pleasant demeanor. If Donald doesn't get back to you right away it's surely because he's in high demand. Be patient. Just Decks is worth every penny!!! I must admit, it took me a little while to get used to Donald's wry sense of humor! But - hey - he's a fun guy! ;O)

This existing 8 stair and platform installation was steep and shaky even though it was the primary entrance to the house. Just Decks retained the platform framing which was acceptable "as is". They replaced the old 8 step stringers, which were not to code, with six new 10 step stringers using pressure treated lumber. They installed new enclosed vinyl stairs (10 steps) and railings. Just Decks policed the work area and removed all construction debris. All work by Just Decks complied with local building codes. Jessie Taylor (owner) and Arnie (carpenter) were very cooperative and professional. The project was conducted on schedule (4 days) and at the agreed upon price. I am very pleased with the quality and value of the work conducted by Just Decks. I would not hesitate to use them again. I recommend them highly!

Excellent workmanship, very professional and fulfilled every commitment. On time and on budget. No surprises and all issues easily resolved. Went out of their way to be helpful and accommodating. Have used many contractors on home renovation projects and this company is by far the best.

Very bad experience...My elderly mother was very dismayed to find out that she had to pay extra for the staining, and Donald was very rude to her.

The initial meeting was great. In he beginning, their office kept in constant communication with us, which we appreciated, especially because Don arrived a few minutes late. He gave us good recommendations and the price was very reasonable for the work to be performed. Due to the fact that they specialized in decks, and because he gave us several pages of referrals, we decided to go with them. When we called them to have the work done, we would always get their answering machine and instead of calling us back, he chose to reply by email and it would always take him a day or two to respond. We gave him several chances and kept calling him and emailing him, but response was very slow to none. Finally, he said that he will be available to do the work at the end of June. But they didn't show up at all. We called them 2nd week of July to give them one last chance, even though we were very skeptical at this point, but again, no response. I feel like we've given this company enough chances and maybe because the work was small (we had decided to have the deck repaired as opposed to replacing), he was not interested. But I feel that he should have been professional enough to decline instead of dodging phone calls and not responding. Very disappointing. I would not use this company again and would not recommend them.

This project was excellent from start to finish. Donald LeBlanc (co-owner) came to inspect our old deck and listened to what we wanted to do. He then made some great suggestions which improved the overall finished product. True to his word, he was able to start the project within the time frame he estimated, once we had signed and returned the contract. His crew was very good, no troubles at all and the finished in just under the low end of his time estimate (5-7 days, they were done in about 4.5)

Called these folks twice leaving two contact numbers, they never returned my calls.

A very positive experience. The owner was very professional and was present at both the beginning and the end of the work. We had a variety of choices and felt that we were well-informed and never pressured. The company has a solid list of references and I had the opportunity to see previous and current jobs they were working on. The job went exactly as planned, and all the company's workers were polite, helpful, and on top of things.

THEY WERE VERY PROFESSIONAL. THE DECK CAME OUT VERY NICE. THEY MADE THE DECK BIGGER THAN IT WAS BEFORE AND MUCH BETTER THAN IT WAS. THEY WERE VERY NICE AND IT WAS DONE VERY QUICKLY.

I DID NOT REALLY SEE THEM, BUT BASED ON THE RESULTS THEY SEEMED TO HAVE DONE A GOOD JOB. I THOUGHT THEY HAD A FAIR PRICE FOR THE WORK DONE. THEY DID WHAT THEY SAID THEY WOULD DO.
