Bill Jost, the owner, began to charge us for work outlined in the plans to be done by code. We had to have a few meetings with the local code enforcement officer to check the work and he pointed out several problems. B&E walked off the job after we did not pay the up charges. He left us with an expensive mess to repair and finish. The work is still not done. He was over time by more than double the estimate and tried to charge us extra. Our family was turned upside down by this outfit. After visiting the lawyer we found out this is a pattern for this company.
Description of Work: We contracted with B&E to build a garage and an addition onto our existing house. Contract included plans from an engineer to be done by code.

On the floor job, they came in on-budget, though I was initially dissatisfied with the clean up after the work was completed. Bill Jost, the co-owner, was quick to respond and we were happy with the ultimate outcome. The door was more complicated to install than originally thought, due to custom sizes on the original door and frame and walls that weren't quite true. Nevertheless B&E did a great job, and while I had thought we'd be charged more due to the extra work involved, again Bill invoices me exactly on budget again. I would definitely use B&E again.
Description of Work: We had a floor sanded, stained, and verathaned by B&E. we also had a new front door installed.

Our home was construction through the winter months. Because of the season, we had several changes of crews. This led to some small issues with coordination, but B&E was responsive, when the issues were brought to their attention. We installed a unique heating system, which required B&E to change their installation techniques. Again, some small issues arose, but B&E was responsive and willing to try to solve the problems amicably.

They were too expensive. It went underneath the window and they said it would take two days. The guy that did work took one day and $250. I like that they were very prompt. always here on time, the staff was always super friendly. I did not like that sometimes there price was a little high and their estimates were not always complete. They were very nice, they would always work with you. If they found something during construction they would give you options to cut costs. They were pretty good. More communication with the staff members. The boss did not always communicate with the workers, he did but sometimes it was miscommunicated. it is a little expensive but it comes with insurance so you get what you pay for.

It turned out beautifully. Better than we anticipated. The workmanship was quality all the way. Bill, the B in B&E, is a man of integrity and character. He did us a solid on the financial end. And Ryan, the finish man, did an incredible job working out all the intricacies of putting together a great functional laundry room. I would recommend B&E highly for any of your construction needs.

It went well. The project was started before the winter months, so there were a few months that I had construction debris (not garbage) in my yard and porch area, but as soon as the weather cleared, the project was almost completed. Now we are waiting for the pressure treated decking to dry before the painting is finished and the wood is stained. Also need to wrap up a few loose ends. These guys were very professional and courteous. They cleaned up their mess every day and were here on time every morning. I gave a "C" for the price because it was quite a bit higher than other estimates, but they have a large crew and they must pay their employees quite well.
Description of Work: Added 1" insulation to my house, sided the house, wrapped the windows to accommodate the insulation and replaced/repaired the front porch.

Description of Work: B&E added a 4 season room attached to our dining room as well as a cedar deck and storage space below. Because of the brutal winter we had up here in the north a few cracks appeared in the new room. B&E sent their finish man, Ryan, over to fix the cracks free of charge.

Excellent workmanship, professional, courteous. We moved out of state and they did work on the house while it was on the market. No problems dealing with them long distance. Very glad we found them!
Description of Work: They repaired damaged siding, painted the exterior and interior of our house in Plattsburgh.
Great!! Our home looks amazing!! We looked for a contractor for a while then met Bill and Eric Jost of B&E Development at the Civic Center?s Home Show. Our home was the typical 1950?s home and hadn?t had much done to it since it was built, not functional, very drafty and had a lot of wasted/useless space. We met with Bill very soon after giving him our contact information at the Home Show, I believe he called within 1-2 days and then came to our home soon after that. Bill was extremely professional, experienced and organized. Most importantly, both my wife and I trusted and got along with Bill, we trusted that B&E would be perfect for us! Bill, Eric, Ryan, Keith and Todd all did work in our home. Ryan and Eric were there for a majority of the project. I was also doing some work in the house at the same time; Eric and Ryan were very patient with me and made me feel like I wasn?t in there way while giving me pointers and educating me along the way. The whole team was very professional, timely, cleaned up after themselves, attentive to our needs and made for a very pleasant experience. There were a lot of things that we didn?t think of, with B&E?s knowledge and creativity everything worked out and looks perfect! B&E obviously did a lot of work in our home, renovating 70% of it, we had a very tight budget and B&E did more than we could?ve ever imagined making sure that everything was accomplished on budget. After the work was completed Eric came over to install new baseboard heaters that we purchased. On another occasion we contacted B&E on a weekend, Eric showed up on Sunday to see if he could help me with an electrical problem I was having, he then returned on Monday morning to help install the part I needed and explained that it was all part of customer service. This type of service is extremely hard to come by and we are very grateful for all they did for us. We are happy that we met and decided to hire B&E Development, the work they did was amazing and the quality of work is worth every penny! We are saving for them to return and tile our breezeway, ½ bath and possibly repair and install a metal roof. On another note, we did receive other quotes that were cheaper but with that came an uninsured, less experiences, works-for-beer kind of contractor. Thanks anyway, I?ll stick with B&E Development!
Description of Work: Work being done was in our Breezeway, Kitchen, Dining room and Living room (approx. total of 900 sq. ft.) as well as adding a ½ bath. Demolition in all rooms (removal of sheetrock, insulation, drop ceiling, multiple interior walls, electrical, plumbing, etc.). Studded existing exterior 2x3 walls to 2x6, adding insulation, wrap, sheetrock, mud, tapped and sanded. Updated all electrical, installed new outlets and lighting, installed 3way switches, installed hard-wired lighting for under/over cabinet lights, installed hard-wired smoke detectors and updated electrical panel box. Updated plumbing in laundry room and kitchen, adding quarter-turn valves, pex, washing machine outlet box, outdoor frost-free shut-off valves, etc.. A new ½ bath was added in our breezeway that is 4’x8’, framed, added and hooked up all electric, added all necessary plumbing including demo of cement slab to connect to drain waste vent system, sheetrock, mud, tapped, sanded and put down AdvanTECH flooring throughout bathroom and breezeway. In our kitchen installed all cabinets, removed kitchen window then reframed and installed smaller window, custom granite countertop, refrigerator water line, built wall that the refrigerator is recessed into, installed pocket door, installed over-the-range microwave and built custom vent, etc.. Customs shelving was added as well as other customs wood work. Repaired existing ceiling and other interior walls. Removal of all trash. Etc etc etc… Note: The price of our kitchen cabinets and granite tile are not included, we purchased them separately.
It went wonderfully. Job completion in reasonable time, cost around original estimate. Excellent talented crews and easy going management.

Both Bill and Eric Jost (owners of this company) were professional and friendly. Bill visited our home and did a thorough walk through, taking measurements and discussing the details of every job we needed done. He was confident and knowledgeable. He took his time with us and truly understood what we had in mind, and he shared our vision for what we wanted to accomplish. He promptly mailed us a detailed estimate/contract that was reasonable. He arranged to have his men arrive at times that were more convenient for us and our schedule. His carpenter/painter Ryan took great care to put down protective covers on our floors and clean up after himself each day. He was patient with our 6 year old son who wanted to "help" and watch everything Ryan did. He even bonded with our big dog Bear who howled to be out of his crate when he heard Ryan's voice each morning. Anytime we noticed something that needed to be done or changed Ryan took care of it. Keith arrived about a week into the project. Keith worked with Ryan in the kitchen, installed one of the storm doors, and did electrical work with Eric. He was a quiet and caring person who worked in a diligent and detailed manner. He was soft spoken and took the time to shake our hands and say goodbye on his last day here. Eric is a very knowledgeable licensed electrician who worked with efficiency and ease repairing and updating electrical outlets, light fixtures, and the sub-panel in our basement. He was very pleasant and courteous at all times. Everyone involved with this company is trustworthy and responsible. Each person took the utmost care to be as unobtrusive and non-disruptive as possible. If we had stayed in this area (instead of moving out of state) we would have called on them for more projects in the future. Wish we had known about them years ago when we first moved here and needed work done on our home. I hope people will read this and call on them for help.
Description of Work: Updated large kitchen including stripping, and repainting cabinets, adding new hinges and pulls, removing wallpaper, repairing walls, painting walls, building and installing decorative kitchen feature. Repaired and painted ceiling in bedroom. Electrical updates and repairs throughout the house. Installed 2 storm doors. Installed new light fixtures. Repaired damaged woodwork in Den. Ceiling repair in garage. Roof repairs.

Completely prompt, courteous, and professional. All work was done as expected. Very happy with the outcome, owner and employee. Very interested in doing job well.
Description of Work: Complete chemical strip and power wash of multiple decks, stairs. Complete re-stain of all surfaces.
Workmen arrived on time and final cost was very close to estimate. We were not charged for work not included in estimate except for what owner asked as extra.
Description of Work: House painting inside kitchen, dining room, hall, bedroom ceiling. Changed drain in upstairs bathroom. Painted porch & removed old kitchen counter. Installed new backsplash & cabinet knobs.
When we initially contacted B&E, we left a message. Within 12 hours we got a phone call back and within a couple of days one of the owners came by, assessed the situation, and gave us an estimate. When we decided to move forward with the project, Bill, one of the owners, e mailed us a contract along with a copy of his insurance certificate and worker comp policy. Very professional and much appreciated. Bill said it would be a month or so before he could get to us, but shortly after we signed the contract he said he could get to us early. ( we were on a very tight deadline to get this room done....Bill understood our urgency). When the work began, Bill appeared at the door with the first team, the sheetrockers. He introduced us and got them settled. Every day they worked, the guys were punctual, polite, and cleaned up at close of work session. When it came to the taping, sanding,,and painting, once again Bill took the time to accompany the new fellow and introduce him. Our taper, sander, painter always kept us apprised of his work schedule, and if he found himself able to come by early in the morning (due to rain out on exterior jobs) he called to make sure it was okay. Our new bedroom is finished, and we are tickled. We are very pleased with B&E's' workmanship, professionalism, and price. We will make them our "go to guys" for future projects!
Description of Work: Sheetrocked, taped, sanded, painted (2 coats ) sheetrock in an unfinished already insulated room. Installed a 3 way light switch, did trim work, (baseboard and window trim). Installed laminate floor (we provided floor planking). Also roughed in electrical hook up for two ceiling lights. Built a three foot knee wall near open stairs for safety. Painted steps, both rise and run.
I have used them 3 times and they are excellent. I used them prior to Angie's List existing. They are really good to deal with and are all professional. The guy who does the estimate is usually not the guy who does the work but the other guys are just as capable. They are all clean cut and are nice people. It does not look like I am hiring a bunch of lackeys. Their work is awesome. We have had a couple of issues with their work. As far as executing a vision that we had they fixed the problems on their time and we rehired them twice. The price for the deck was about $1,500 for labor and materials which was only about $300 or $400 more than the material cost. That saved me like two weeks work and they did in one day. They had four guys out there doing it and I was happy. In the past they did a renovation for our panty/utility room. They fixed a lot of concrete foundations and blocks. They encased it in this nice wood. This company used particle wood but I wanted plywood so they fixed it for free. They also did some flooring and tile work in that room. They also did a flower box in front of my house under very long windows. The workmen had to cut stone and put in the flower box. They did an amazing job and are excellent, but they may be a little more costly that some of the other contractors in town. However, they are the real deal. I would say if you don't use them you are throwing your money away.
Description of Work: I used B & E Development to build a 20-foot x 20-foot deck frame.

I had 90% of the materials including the tile, toilet, shower base, vanity, all fixtures, hardware, grout, thinset, wall covering and lighting. I needed about $750 worth of construction material and the estimate was for labor only. In short, the work included removing the existing tub and surround, taking out the toilet and vanity, and replacing all with new. Instead of a tub, I elected to have a shower base and tile up on three sides, install a soffit to run electrical and a light/fan unit to the outside wall, add a light above the toilet, resurface the existing small closet with cedar shelves and walls, tile the floor, add the new vanity, mirror and light, tile behind the facing vanity wall, cover the existing walls with cedar shakes, and use the proper underlayments (cement board, etc) on the tile surfaces. I had 4 estimates done within a 2 week time frame. I compared all estimates with a contractor friend's price for similar work to be done at a different house so I knew what the approximate cost should be. The first two estimates came in at a similar price of $6500 for labor plus some needed materials like concrete board, which I didn't have. If I hadn't talked to my friend nor if I hadn't any common sense, I would have thought these prices were fair. But upwards of 7k for labor to remodel a small bathroom (including a lot of tile work) seemed high. So I got two other estimates. The third one came in at a price in the ballpark as my carpenter friend recommended; $4000.00. I would have hired this person, from Malone, since it was a dad and son operation and he was as thorough, knowledgeable and professional as B&E. However, I happened to be able to hire a team of brothers who came highly recommended from the local hardware store in Saranac who did the complete job for half the price as the lowest bid.
Description of Work: I only received an estimate from B & E Development for a complete remodel of a small bathroom. He was punctual, friendly and professional. He took the time to go over all of the details and we established a good rapport from our meeting.

They had a positive "Can Do" attitude throughout the operation. I have already requested B & E Development for another job that we have sometime this fall. I highly recommed Bill, Eric and their crew to anyone needing home improvements.
