While the representative was fine on the phone, when I told him the cost was very high, he didn't respond other than to say "when you pick up your toilet and want an install, call us back and will schedule an installer.
Description of Work: I purchased an American Standard toilet from The Home Depot. They had At Home Services call me this morning for install and costs. THD was $80 higher than a plumber and $10 higher on removal of the toilet. I went elsewhere from Angie's List.

Two months ago (September, 2015), I looked at my roof and found a couple of gutters that were loose and what looked like sagging of the roof between the rafters. Home Depot had done my roof 14 years ago and the labor warranty expired four years ago so, at this time, there was no reason for me to go back to Home Depot so I choose to contact an independent roofer to examine the condition on the roof. When he got on the roof, he showed me that that the plywood was flexing between the rafters. The roof was sagging under his weight. He found some of the fascia was rotted causing the gutters to loosen. He told me that all the plywood sheathing should be replaced. I got another estimate from another roofer and decided to replace the whole roof, including the plywood sheathing. I was home when the roofer came to my home and started removing the shingles. I had to go out with my wife for some personal errands and when I returned home, the roofer told me that all of the fascia under the gutters was rotted and had to be replaced. In addition, all the gutters had to be removed and replaced. He then showed me a four by eight section of plywood sheathing, with the shingles attached, from the edges of the roof just above the gutters. It seems that the cause of my soft plywood sheathing and rotted fascia was the incorrect installation of a material called GAF Weatherwatch® granular surface leak barrier. This material is described by the manufacturer (GAF) to ?help prevent leaks due to water damming in your gutters, wind-driven rain, and in the North, damaging ice dams?. The problem was that themembrane (paper) covering the adhesive part of the material was not removed before installation (please see pictures and manufacturer instructions attached). Therefore the material never adhered to the roof. This caused water to get under the shingles and damage the plywood, rot the fascia and increase the humidity in the attic causing all the plywood sheathing to deteriorate. Unfortunately, therewas no way of knowing that when Home Depot put a new roof on our home fourteen years ago, that whoever they contracted with to perform the installation incorrectly installed the roof because the shingles above the gutters are the last to be removed. At this point it was impossible to have Home Depot come to see their installation mistake because the roof had to be immediately replaced to protect my home from the elements. Home Depot says that they will not reimburse me for some or all of the cost of correcting their negligent installation of my roof fourteen years ago. They said that they would have replaced my roof if they knew of the problem. Had I known of the problem, I would certainly have contacted Home Depot. The fact of the matter is this negligence on Home Depot?s part was not discovered until the shingles had been removed and, at this point, the only course of action was to replace the roof rather than leaving my home exposed to the elements. Of course if they had examined my roof before it was removed, they would not have seen their failure to remove the membrane from the adhesive because it was not visible with all the shingles in place. I am now stuck with a $22,000 bill to replace my entire roof, including shingles, plywood sheathing and wood fascia that was badly damaged by their blatantly substandard installation fourteen years ago.? I hired The Home Depot to protect my home with a new roof. Instead, because of their defective installation of the roofing materials, they destroyed parts of my home. I would like to be reimbursed for their incompetence. Their offer, after I filed a complaint with the Better Business Bureau, of a $500 home Depot gift card if I drop the case is insulting. The essence of this case is that Home Depot, through their substandard installation of my roof, caused a LATENT DEFECT, a hidden defect in material and/or workmanship of an item which may cause failure or malfunction, but is not discoverable through general inspection. Therefore, I would like the Better Business Bureau to take action against The Home Depot so that I may recover my financial loss due to The Home Depot's substandard installation. If I do not find any relief through the Better Business Bureau, I will have a lawyer litigate the matter.
Description of Work: In June of 2001 I hired The Home Depot to protect my home with a new roof. Instead, because of their defective installation of the roofing materials, they destroyed parts of my home. The essence of this case is that Home Depot, through their substandard installation of my roof, caused a LATENT DEFECT, a hidden defect in material and/or workmanship of an item which may cause failure or malfunction, but is not discoverable through general inspection. I have pictures and copies of contracts for Angie's list to examine. Please see letter to Better Business Bureau in details .

It was a lot of money. I had trouble with one of the windows, I called the representative, and he called me back the next day, and had someone out with a new window and fixed it. I was very impressed.

It started with the sales call. (Full disclosure: I had worked for about 13 months in the millwork department of Home Depot so I was familiar with the product line). He took measurements of all the windows we wanted to replace; discussed some options about window types that might better for us (e.g., replacing awning windows with double hung rather than casements because they would be a little cheaper and you could put an air conditioning unit in them as we don't have central air). He filled out the necessary paperwork and in doing so realized that the promotion Home Depot was running at the time capped the discount at $4,500, so he split the order in two, getting the maximum $4,500 on one order and an additional $700 on the second. He then went around and put a sticker on each window we wanted to replace to correspond to the paperwork to eliminate mistakes. Next a technician came out to remeasure. There were a couple of windows that looked tricky to handle so he called a manager to come to my home and they discussed it together and laid out a strategy. Once the second measure confirmed everything on the order, the order was placed with the Anderson factory. The install was originally scheduled for the last week in August but due to a delay on one of the orders, and I wanted both done at the same time, we pushed it back ten days. Throughout I was kept informed by Home Depot by phone and through their personal project website. A day before the installation the leader of the construction crew came by to look at our house and confirm which windows were being replaced. We were originally told it would take two days, but the crew leader said to plan on three days. We had no problem with that but such a last minute extension could be a problem for some folks who might like to schedule things tightly. They told us they would start the next day at 7:30AM and they were right on time. By the end of the first day they had eighteen windows installed and of those five completely finished with the exterior capping done. By the end of the next day they had the remaining thirteen windows installed and eleven more completely finished. They did need the third day but finished up by 10:30. The workmanship was excellent. They vacuumed every room as they finished the install. They carried away all of the old windows and any mullions they had to remove. They set up their saws outside to keep the dust out of the house. The only thing they didn't finish 100% was that they were short one handle for one of the casement windows. They did provide a substitute handle and said someone would come by to replace it, something I could easily do myself if they sent me the handle. The windows on my third floor look so good I felt compelled to order new hardware and screens for my older Anderson windows to match the new ones. I am completely 100% satisfied and would recommend them. I can't guarantee you will get the same installation crew, but having worked at Home Depot I can say, and it's one of the main reasons I chose them, is that they will stand behind the installation and they will be here tomorrow.

We scheduled the initial appointment for a Friday evening and were given a window of 2-6PM. At 6PM there was still no word, when I called to question this, they put me in touch with the consultant who said he was running late and should be there by 6:45PM. At 7PM, the consultant called back and said that his GPS said he was still 40 minutes away so he felt we would need to reschedule. We did so for the following morning (Saturday between 10-2PM). Home Depot at home services called in the morning to confirm the appointment so we felt confident that everything was in order. At 2PM we received a phone call saying that the consultant for our area was out sick and they would have to reschedule. When I mentioned that they called to confirm earlier, they told me that was done by their automated system and that had nothing to do with our individual consultant. We told them that we were not interested in rescheduling as they had already waster 8-10 hours of my time.
Description of Work: While shopping in our local home depot kitchen department, we were approached by a representative from their "at home services" department offering a free consultation for a kitchen remodel.

After being approached in the store we agreed to an in-home consultation on refacing our kitchen cabinetry. They insisted that both my husband and I be home for the meeting so, we agreed on a Monday morning. 10 minutes before they were supposed to show up, they called to reschedule. They said we had never 'confirmed.' I checked my VM history and they had called at almost 9 pm on Sunday evening, the night before. We have a young infant and were already in bed. We agreed to give them another try and set up a meeting for the following week. I was called 3 separate times over the week to confirm the appointment, and I confirmed it each time. On the day of the appointment, 15 minutes before the meeting, HD called again to reschedule, stating the appointment was never confirmed. Although I've been happy with other Home Depot 'At Home' services, I was very disappointed with their kitchen group. If they are this bad before even getting the job, I can't imagine how poorly they would perform once they had our money.

The estimate was fine but then we researched the product on the web and we were not crazy about their product or service. We didn't go with them. The gentleman that came to do the estimate was very professional and knew his stuff. We were satisfied with that. We would get another estimate from them for a different type of product.

I am very pleased with my Home Depot kitchen. The salesman came to my apartment with samples for the cabinets and counters. There was a little pressure to close the sale that day, but he wasn't too pushy at all. The cabinets were ready in the time predicted and the work took the time predicted. I felt that the salesman wasn't upfront about how long the counters would take to be fabricated, so I was without water in the kitchen longer than I anticipated. But the final product is great and all of the workmen were courteous and professional.
Description of Work: I had my cabinets refaced, which involved new cabinet doors and new drawers. The old cabinet boxes and the soffits were covered in a laminate to match the doors. The old countertop was removed and new quartz counters were installed along with a new sink/faucet.

Cris Nolan was our sales consultant. They were reasonable. We went with a brand that was not as well known, but they recommended them and we are very happy. The inside molding they replaced on the house was pine (it looked like oak it was a stain) and it didn't come out right and then their manager, Brad, came in, took out the molding that looked bad and replaced it with molding he had picked out himself, put it in, stained it and there was no additional charge for this. They said they were willing to do anything to make us happy. All turned out great!

The ordering process involved calling an 800 number for home depot and having someone come to the house to give the sales pitch, etc. The man was on time, knowledgable, and not particularly high pressure. In fairness, I have to say that we didn't do much shopping around to compare prices. There were some minor but annoying problems with the local store where they said we had an outstanding balance on our home depot credit card which would prevent the ordering of the windows. This was taken care of fairly easily after a few phone calls between the store and the sales consultant who ordered the windows. The two men who came to install the windows showed up at 7:50AM (HD said they'd be here between 8 and 10), and pretty much worked non-stop until 5 PM. They cleaned up after themselves and did a great job, from what I can tell (as I write this, the windows were just installed two days ago). So far, so good, in terms of the product. We will have to see how they hold up!
