During installation, they didn't return the control to automatic so the lights weren't going on and off as they were supposed to. I reported that to them, they returned and graciously fixed the problem. The lights have been going on as programmed. I would certainly recommend them.
Description of Work: Canaltown Electric provided very professional service when I needed to have a remote control for outside lights installed.

Overall these guys are professional, and responsive, but they are pricey. Not sure if it is because they are from Pittsford, but they came in 30%-40% higher than most other electricians I worked with. I did not select them because I did not see the value in the premium they were charging.
Description of Work: Sent my blue prints and kitchen design over for a lighting and electric quote. Rep came out and did a site visit to install 8-12 can lights, 4 pendants, 2 island recepticles, a few lights in the new powder room and closet, install an outdoor coach light, security light and the remaining electric recepticles. Did not go with this company.

Mike and his helper, Michael were great!!! They arrived before the scheduled appt since the previous job didn't take as long as expected. Mike had to work in a crawlspace, over the ceiling, that was filled with fiberglass insulation. For 2 of the fixtures, he had to lay on his stomach in order to attach the boxes. Despite the tight and 'scratchy' working conditions, everything worked out perfectly. Michael positioned all the wall switches exactly where they were most convenient. The whole job took about 3 hours and I am extremely satisfied with the results. Since my ceiling fan is on back-order, I'll be calling Mike again to finish the installation.
Description of Work: Install new wiring and box for remote controlled ceiling fan (power only, no wall switches);Remove (4) existing, recessed, can-type ceiling fixtures; install new spanner boxes and wall switches; replace with new, flush-mount fixtures

Canal Town Electric are very friendly and professional and we will use them again
Description of Work: Alan came around to do the estimate and Patrick performed the work. We needed a center light fitting in our dining room and Canal Electric did a very clean job of cutting into the dry wall and around the crown moulding. They also took care of another wiring issue in the room that did not meet code!

Alan made multiple visits to our new home to assess the situation and advise us of our options for remediating problems we inherited. There was no extra charge for all these visits. He had to consult with our electrical supply provider (Rochester, Gas and Electric), meet with them at the house and make follow-up calls to them and to us. He developed four different options, answered all our questions and never tryed to sway us in our decision-making. We were impressed by his knowledge and experience. His response time was excellent. He supervised his workers, who were professional, polite, and neat.
Description of Work: Installed subpanel. Removed all circuits from main panel and installed in new panel. Installed gang outlet and GFCI outlet. Sleeved ourdoor service wire.

We were 100% satisfied with the work they did for us; they were professional, punctual and polite. They arrived exactly when they said they would, iintroduced themselves and gave explanations as they progressed. They were proactive by suggesting alternatives to our original requests which provided a better finished product. It was obvious from the initial contact to the end of the job that they ALL take pride in their work and our satisfaction was their primary concern.

Calls to Canal Town were answered or promptly returned, as was email. An estimate was done fairly soon after my initial contact with them. Alan came out to do the estimate. He was very professional, explained different options and seemed very knowledgeable. Once we agreed on doing the the work, a date/time was promptly scheduled. They arrived on time and seemed very organized. We had several people from Canal Town in the house to work on this job. All were professional and friendly. The work was performed quickly, and well. Based on my experience with Canal Town, I recommend them and would use them again. The final bill was exactly as estimated. I did receive estimates from several electricians. Canal Town was not the cheapest, but I chose them based on their promptness and how knowledgeable they seemed. Their estimate process and general communication was the most thorough, which made me feel more comfortable choosing them. Overall, I am very happy with them.
Description of Work: Canal Town upgraded the 150 amp panel in our house to a 200 amp panel. This included running new wire from the meter to the panel, and installing the new panel and breakers. They also ran a new 20 amp line to an office area.

I would give them an excellent rating. We were very, very satisfied. I thought the man was excellent. We used a coupon from Angie's List which saved us 10%. We were very, very happy. My husband was happy using Angie's List for the recommendation (we got them from the list). My husband had scheduled them to come very quickly on a certain from when we first contacted them. The man called and apologized that he had another job. He said they would be here early the next morning and that day they were right on time. We were impressed that they called immediately when they found out they couldn't make it and set up another time to come quickly thereafter.
Description of Work: We had an outdoor pool pump which wasn't working. They came and found the problem quickly. They found out they needed to replace a circuit breaker in the panel in the basement. It was a fairly difficult job. I had some other electric problems in the kitchen which they were able to fix as well. They saved us from having to do the whole box. They moved the breaker.

Alan (the owner) is very responsive and conscientious. There were two people who worked for him that came out to do the job and they were wonderful. They ended up needing some parts and Alan promptly showed up with what they needed. They seemed to take pride in the work they do. I do not have any context to measure the price as I have not had a lot of electrical work done before this, but in terms of quality and professionalism I can tell you that you won't be disappointed. I will use them again.

The estimate was scheduled quickly and was completed in a very professional manor. Details of work required was easy to understand and the estimate of cost was acceptable. I was a little surprised that the estimator was not the one that did the actual work but the work was completed in a very reasonable amount of time. Clean up after work could have been better. Overall the work was satisfactory and I would hire this company again.
Description of Work: Service requested was to evaluate electrical wiring for code compliance in the basement of a 15 year old house addition. In addition there was a known circuit breaker size/wire size problem and a hidden wire junction that was twisted and covered with tape. Work completed was replacing a circuit breaker from 20 amp to 15 amp which resolved the wire size problem. In the electrical sub panel neutral wires and ground wires were connected together and needed to be separated. And finally a juction box was installed for the twisted wire junction. All other areas the the wiring were acceptable to the Electrical Code.

Result, I finally found the ground fault outlet, pushed the button, and it was fixed. It would have been easy for a less scrupulous electrician to come out and do that for a fee. You can't put a price on having a resource who is trustworthy. I will call them as soon as another issue comes up.
Description of Work: I called because my bathroom outlets were not working. I had checked the electrical panel and no switches were thrown. The person who answered at Canal Town said, "I'm going to try and save you some money." Then he took me what to look for. It had been wet and he had me looking for a ground fault. It took about five minutes and he stayed on the line while I went upstairs and down to the basement a couple of times.

The electricians who came out from Canal Town Electric Company seemed to be very experienced and knowledgeable. They did a good job with replacing the electric panel but they did not solve several other minor issues. So, I felt in the end that I overpaid for their services. I wouldn’t recommend them because I think they are too expensive. They do good work when they do it. I would not consider using them in the future.

I will definitely use Canal Town electric again.
Description of Work: Due to a faulty outlet / aluminum wire for our dryer it created a burning smell. Upon a visit from the fire department and realizing it was a faulty outlet that the dryer was plugged into to they told me to call an electrician to replace the outlet. I called the Canal Town Electric on Wednesday and an appointment was made for Friday. Alan listened to my "explanation" and gave some thoughts as to the cause. Alan came promptly at 8:30am despite the bad weather and even made a trip back to Home Depot for the part. He diagnosed the problem and fixed the problem.

Two electricians showed up on time and got right to work. They first laid down tarps to protect our hardwoods, although multiple trips were made through the snow to their van for supplies, so some ice and snow got tracked in anyway. During their work they found some wiring problems that they fixed, and also had to come up with some solutions on the spot when confronted with an installation problem. They were both industrious and pleasant to be around. Due to some of the problems encountered, they barely finished after 8 hours on the job, which left little time for them to fully clean up behind themselves. But overall I feel they did a very good job and wouldn't hesitate to hire them again.
Description of Work: Intalled lights, ceiling fans, and a few other odd electrical jobs we had for them to do.

I left a message in the evening when the circuit breaker problem happened, and I received a call very early the next morning. This was my first time calling the company so I was pleased and surprised that they called back so quickly. After taking down my information over the phone, I was told that someone would be there in the afternoon. Shortly before noon, I got a call that they were on their way - another nice surprise. The electrician (Patrick) had to do considerable investigation to determine the cause(s) of the problem and did much of it working in a cramped basement (with a temperature of about 45 degrees) of my 100 year old house. Patrick and his assistant Mike never complained and were totally focused on solving the problem. With some rewiring, they thought the problem was solved, but as it turned out more investigation and work needed to be done to solve the overload. One hundred year old homes have their own special challenges. Patrick showed sincere concern that the job be done right. No problems since!
Description of Work: Investigate cause of circuit breaker which would not reset. Determined overload and rewired bad connections, . Also installed dedicated circuit for heat tape system with a new outdoor receptacle.

Given the weather conditions, I needed someone to evaluate and fix the electrical component of my roof heating coil system on a relatively urgent basis. Alan made time to come out and do a thorough analysis of the situation. He identified the problems, explained everything clearly, installed a temporary work-around and scheduled a time for one of his colleague to come back to make the permanent fix. Patrick arrived at the appointed time, was already well-acquainted with what needed to be done and got right to work. Now everything is working great. I will hire Canal Town for any other electrical work I need done in the future.
