Alan (owner) and Michael (the guy who did most of our house's work) were extremely nice to work with, detail oriented, thoughtful and professional. Because they were a subcontractor from our primary crew I don't know exactly what their cost was, but I am definitely pleased with their work.
Description of Work: Rewired our kitchen, two bathrooms, replaced the service box, installed numerous fixtures and recepticals.

Description of Work: I called Canal Town to schedule an appointment to resolve an electrical problem we were having. He said there would be an extra charge for a trip to Canandaigua and I told him that was no problem. I described the problem and he said it sounds like it may be simple to fix. He told us what to do and lo and behold we corrected it at no charge. He was extremely professional and I would definitely call Canal Town again if we need the services of an electrician.

I have used theses guys for a variety of jobs and have never been disappointed. The workers are top-notch in their trade and are friendly and respectful (which is important to me since my wife any three young children are usually there while they are working). A special mention to Mike who has performed most of the work at the house and has done some really nice stuff. I will be using them again next week to install bath fans and for all future electrical work that we need.

 + -1 moreMichael (the electricain) arrived right on time, as scheduled. He introduced himself, and remved his shoes upon entering. We walked through all the areas where the work was to be performed. He explained in detail how the work would be performed/completed. He was professional, courteous, and personable throught the entire process. He checked his work upon completion, and made sure all outlets had power ... actually measured output voltage at each. He was very conscientious, especially when running the new wire and securing/dressing the new circuits in the panel box.
Description of Work: Repaired items found during home inspection: - double tapped circuits - uncovered junction box - unterminated/uncapped "Romex" wiring Installed (3) new circuits and associated wiring required to add three additional outlets to our basements.

Description of Work: I live in a house that was build in the 40's and lots of wired are placed into one circuit breaker. During the winter, the breaker for my room tripped a couple of times. So wanted to get issues like this fix. Had a conduit added and wires separated into different breakers.

 + -1 moreWe were very pleased with the work. Alan and his apprentice were courteous and punctual, and we appreciated how accommodating they were in scheduling their visits. They were knowledgeable, careful, and methodical in their work. They explained what they were doing, and Alan gave us very helpful advice and suggestions about future electrical work, including installing outdoor lights and adding new outlets. We will definitely be hiring Canal Town Electric again.
Description of Work: We moved into a older house in which all the wiring was modern and up-to-date, but the outlets themselves were mostly two-pronged. Since we want to be able to charge our laptops in any room in the house, we had Canal Town Electric replace all of the two-prong outlets with three-prong outlets. We also had them adjust a few light switches that control various outlets and fix a light fixture that was askew and coming loose from the ceiling.

 + 0 moreCanal Town Electric was wonderful. Terry came out to do an estimate and told me exactly what I would need to order for the installation. He came prepared to price out the estimate, and had dates of availability so I would know when the work could be done. Once I scheduled the work, the installation team was here on time, and did an exceptional job. The initial estimate had included the cost of renting scaffolding, but they were able to do the work with a large stepladder which saved some money. Mike and Kevin were polite, pleasant to work with, and extremely knowledgeable. When they were done, they cleaned up completely, including vacuuming up in the attic! Since I don't go up there, I never would have known if they didn't. I would definitely use this company again, and will recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Installed a new ceiling fan in the living room, including running electric from attic to installation location.

Gave me ball park price by phone. Scheduled the work to take place within one week. Workers worked on 2 houses in one afternoon. 2 workmen worked together. First House: Installed a tandem breaker in electrical service box to replace double taps. Second House: Installed electrical outlet high on a kitchen wall for TV install. Required running wiring from attic space above kitchen ceiling. The job could not have been any better. Workers were on time, neat, clean, personable, helpful, knew exactly what they were doing, completed the work quickly, properly, neatly, no mess.

 + -1 morePower surge on Tuesday, Wednesday woke up to no electrical service in 1/2 of the house. Called Canal Town in the morning they suggested calling RGE first to make sure it was not an outside problem. Once deteremined the cause was inside of the house -called Canal Town back. They arrived a couple of hours later. During their inspection of the circutbreaker lines they discovered some wiring issues in two junction boxes. Looked like previous owner was a self taught electrician--note: Duck tape is not for electric wires. To prevent any other issues in the future I opted for them to replace a couple of bad wires and hook up the wires with the correct supplies. It was determined a burned out sump pump was the cause---once unplugged the house had full electricity. Everything was completed and up and running in 2 hours. I had envisioned a hugh house re-wire and a very big bill. Not the case-did just was needed to correct the problem. Thanks for a wonderful experience,
Description of Work: Traced electrical circut lines discovered some bad electrical work. Replaced bad wires and found the sump pump was the problem for the circut breaker to turn off.

 + 0 moreWe were renovating our basement, and wanted to have recessed lighting put in through the basement. We've used Canaltown before, and have always received great service. Alan came and gave us and estimate, and worked with us on making recommendations on the best locations and how to utilize what we already had. He gave us a quote of $1350 to remove the old wiring, install new wiring, add 12 more recessed lights to the existing 5 already installed, and setup the switches the way we requested to zone the lighting. I think it was Mike who did the work, which took about 1 1/2 days. Mike did a great job, cleaned up when he was done, and actually did more than we had originally requested. He had to make a couple of trips to the store to get new lights when the ones he brought didn't work. At the end of the job, even with some of the small modifications and extra work, they stuck to their original quote. No doubt will use these guys for all of our electrical needs.
Description of Work: We requested to have old wiring removed, installation of new wiring, install additional recessed lights (adding 12 to existing 5), and zone the lighting in our basement remodel.

They were all business, got right down to work and completed the work in a short time. I found the two men who came to be very professional and very personable. They cleaned up after themselves and put furniture back even after I told them not to worry about it, that I would take care of it.

When i called to make the appointment, the owner took the time to talk with me about the track lighting problem i was having and troubleshooted with me so he could give me a more accurate estimate on how long and how involved the appointment might be. He even offered to look at pictures i took of the lighting system we had, so i texted them to him. They were very efficient and very friendly, which is nice any time you are letting men into your house with just you and your daughter home. Most of all, they were knowledgeable on the type of system we had, which was pretty outdated. They were able to take everything down with the least amount of damage to my ceiling and walls, which is saying something since the system we had was bolted in at several different locations and more complex than your average track lighting. All in all, they were great to work with and I will absolutely hire them again in the future.
Description of Work: I ended up having Canal Town gut my whole track lighting system and install a small chandalier fixture in the center of my ceiling. They figured out the problem was actually a damaged transformer in the basement. They also repair another fixture upstairs and several outlets that needed repair. They told me about the new style receptacles that are tamper proof and had enough with them to replace most of my outlets, which was a huge bonus since we have a 16 month old running around.

They explain options as they go along and make sure that they understand what you want. They give good advice when you're not sure of exactly how something should go. (Knowledgeable and professional.) As an aside, Alan has a great sense of humor!
Description of Work: I can't speak highly enough about my experience with Canaltown Electric! Alan got right back to me when I sent an e-mail to the business requesting an estimate. He gave me a very detailed piece by piece list of what they would do for how much money. The list was spot on and very accurate when the work was done. The entire crew was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. As they did the work, they were mindful of possible work that I might want done in the future and provided routes for ease of installation. They were extremely neat and cleaned up as they progressed. I have a house that was built in the twenties and when I contacted other electricians they immediately refused the work based on that alone. In contrast, Alan said that his company loves the challenge of working on these houses. I had three prong outlets added throughout the house. A separate switch for the back door overhead light was added. I had a motion detector fixture added to the back of the house for security. A cable was added up the back of the house to supply electric service by fishing wire down through the middle. Old wiring was removed and 3 cable hookups were neat . Everything was done in a neat and timely manner. I'm thrilled with the work and the fact that my house has moved into this century! I will be hiring them again to do some outside wiring in my Phase Two!

I had an outside pole light that had stopped working, and had some outisde lights that needed to be installed on the house. I sent the e-mail on a Saturday night and received a reply on Sunday, they came out and did the work on Tuesday. 2 people came out and they finished the work in a little over and hour. They were very professional and courteous. Very Impressed with this company.

 + -1 moreMy garage is partially drywalled as is the ceiling. So, Mike had to cut a rectangle out to get into fish the wires to drop the boxes in. He did so neatly and replaced the piece of dry wall when he was finished. The team work effeciently and were very professional!
Description of Work: Alan responded quickly to my e-mails (which were sent late at night) He had resonable quotes and I scheduled him for Monday, July 30th at 8:30am. Alan called, and said they were working in my neighborhood today;would I mind if the team came today. Not a problem. They began the job in my garage installing three outlets; in a timely manner and were finished by 12:30 today. Mike and his partner, cleaned up all debris from the job and left the garage as it was found. I would definately, call Canal Town Electric again for any electrical needs.
