We purchased kitchen cabinets from Cabinets To Go in Syracuse, and also ordered a counter top through their subcontractor, Top Fabricators. Shane and Keith were both very communicative and responsive through the ordering, measuring and installation process. Shane came to our home, and laser-measured a template. Two weeks later, our acrylic counters arrived, and the crew came to install. They were prompt, professional, and took the time to explain the whole process to us. Aside from a small measurement adjustment which they corrected onsite, the installation went smoothly, taking about two hours. They also installed a sink that we had purchased from another retailer, and gave us recommendations about installing our faucet. All in all, a very smooth process, and we love our countertops! I would recommend acrylic counters to anyone who wants the look of stone without the cost.

Shane and his crew at Top Fabricators were actually subcontractors to our general contractor for our kitchen addition. Despite that fact, my wife and I pretty much worked with Shane directly to: - pick out our new quartz countertops; - schedule a measurement date; - schedule an installation date; - arrange payments. Shane was always available to take my calls and let us keep his sample kit for quite a while. For measurements, Shane was accommodating to our vacation schedule, where he arrived early morning prior to our departure so that we could have our questions answered and concerns addressed. For install, the crew was late getting to the job due to a vehicle breakdown. And when they did arrive, our kitchen island was approximately a foot longer than the drawings that were made on measurement day indicated. However, they were able to cut it down to the propoer size on site. Moreover, the install crew was very friendly, courteous, and professional. One thing that surprised us a little bit was that the stainless steel sink was a bit small. We thought we had told Shane and our general contractor we wanted the biggest sink our cabinet could handle, but didn't really get that in the end. No doubt this was partially our fault for not following up more explicitly. And it wasn't really a big deal, but just follow up more explicitly to make sure you know what you are getting in this area. Overall though it was a good experience. This is a sound business that delivers a quality product at a fair price.
Description of Work: Installed quartz countertops in our new kitchen addition, as well as a new stainless steel sink.

Picked up my countertop on June 26, 2012, and I was immediately dissatisfied with the quality of workmanship. I had requested Formica's new Ideal Edge and the color match was poor. It looked nothing like granite, as advertised. The fit and finish of the edge was also notably rough. There are high spots, low spots and visible gaps where the deck meets the Ideal Edge. On top of that, my substrate had been spray-painted. The fabricators realized that using Ideal Edge was going to expose substrate, so they applied black paint to disguise it. Furthermore, I had been promised a 4-inch band of solid surface on the sides of my sink and they told me the entire material behind the sink would be solid surface. Instead, I was given only a 1/2 inch of solid surface around that entire area. After getting it home, I realized my pieces aren't even made to correct dimension - the material behind the sink was supposed to be 5 3/16 inches but on the left side it is 5 1/8 inches and on the right side it is 5 inches, and the cooktop piece is 1/2 inch too small. Regrettably, I paid in full on the 26th because the owner implied he'd make things right. He used his phone to snap a photo of the edge and said he'd get it right off to Formica. Trying to resolve my issues with Top Fabricators has been extremely frustrating. After initially waiting weeks, and listening to a woman there promising me that I would be getting the owner's personal work the minute he got back from his vacation, I have ended up with nothing I can use. You are told you can call the owner within a 15-minute window frame at the beginning of the day and if you call at that time and he is busy, you miss speaking with him for the entire day. Email communication can only be with the owner - no one else in the office has access to his email and the woman answering the phone has no real knowledge of where issues currently stand. When I ask the owner to call me and not hold things up with delayed emails, he does not honor my request. The last time I spoke with him, he accused me of throwing him under the bus because I personally contacted Formica. What choice did I have? When I brought up the fact that the substrate behind the sink varies by an eighth of an inch, the owner tried to fault me because I did not bring him my apron sink. I gave him the manufacturer's spec sheet, the manufacturer's drawing, and a photograph of a ruler being held to the sink. All that was needed was a consistent straight cut. (This was not for an under-mount application.) When I brought up the fact that my entire counter had been spray-painted, he tried to blame me for that as well. I requested backsplash around my cooktop piece where there are existing tiles. I asked him how thick countertop was so I could size the backsplash accordingly. He was the one who told me it was 1 1/2 inch thick. When he realized that Formica's new Ideal Edge was only 1 1/4, he should have called me so that adjustments could be made. Formica said that they would not do a claim on an uninstalled countertop. Both the fabricator and I found this unfair. Top Fabricators goal was to get Formica to pay for their mistakes. I do think they need to be retrained by Formica on Ideal Edge, because the edge does not blend in and/or look anything like real granite, but I shouldn't be dragged into that. The majority of the problems I have are fabrication problems ? not product issues. Top Fabricators refused to allow me to bring my countertop back in so we could examine it together, piece-by-piece, and when they were unable to get Formica to intervene, they dropped what little communication they had left with me altogether, leaving me with countertop I cannot use. I have had to pursue Formica for some kind of resolution. After reviewing my photographs, they have agreed to send me new product and new edge because they agree that the coloring/image on the edge was not properly matched up to the coloring/image on the deck; however, I will still need to pay another fabricator for substrate and labor costs. I highly recommend that you do not go to Top Fabricators because they did not supply me with what I was promised, dimensionally, fundamentally or esthetically.
Description of Work: Asked to have a countertop fabricated, which I intended to install. Owner suggested we put solid surface in a 4-inch band around the sink, which I thought was a very good idea and the reason why I went with him. He promised me his best work, and I promised I would pay. He did not keep his promise and now I am out $1,160.

Response from Top Fabricators Inc
Hi this is Shane the owner of Top Fabricators Inc. I take pride in my work and it shows after being in business for 10 years as of this past July. This client Member is a very nice individual who I had the chance to meet and work with. Member gave me measurements and drawings of his kitchen counter top that he wanted fabricated so that he could pick them up and install them himself. Member demanded a request that i do not and can not go to his home and measure the job at hand. So it took quite awhile going over his drawings to make sure there are no errors on his behalf. His measurements changed often, Most shops will make customers sign off on the final drawings so that there is no pointing the finger on who is wrong. I did not do this because I am known to go out and beyond and making things right at all costs. I can defend myself with every complaint that Member has but the underlying truth is Member researched this Formica FX180 he did all of his home work and when the final product was given to him he expected this to look just like granite. This is a laminate that comes in sheets of various sizes that has multi directional veining. Then there was bullnosed edges that is provided to me in 12 feet lengths that were made separate from the sheets of laminate that color match the sheets. When attached it is impossible to make the Veining line up from the "deck" to the front edge of the counter top. This was explained to him at great lengths ,However in the end this was the main reason why he was very upset. I had many discussions with Formica Corporate, and in no way did I say that Member threw me under the bus by calling Formica themselves. I said a third opinion is the best for both parties because first they are the experts in this field and secondly if I am doing something wrong it needs to be addressed so that I can service my past and future customers better. I tried contacting Member through email several times but he uses a company email that wont allow me to get through. I talked to him on the phone several times and I told him I wanted communication through email so that our conversations were recorded. I have been in contact with my distributors and Formica Corporate. They will give me free materials to remake his counter tops with no expense to me. Member only wants his money back. This is not fair. I suggest he install the counter tops, call Formica and submit a claim and they will take care of him.

When I visited Top Fabricators' shop the pros and cons of different surfaces were explained to me. I chose to go with a solid surface material with a high gloss finish. (My neighbor, a general contractor who does top of the line kitchen renovations, thought it was granite. ) TF sent one of their people to measure for an estimate. Once I agreed to proceed one of their people came in and developed a template for the top. Within ten days they had the counter top ready to install. However, I wasn't ready and they scheduled according to my needs. The workmanship is outstanding. The TF people are very easy to work with. I'm very happy that I chose TF and will consider them for any future work of the same nature.

Their customer service is excellent. They are very helpful and knowledgeable about the product. They were able to show me all of my options and they educated me about the entire process. Additionally, their turn-around time is just wonderful, and their prices are also reasonable.
Description of Work: I ordered natural stone countertops from them for my kitchen.
