I hired Rich in late 2018 and they worked over that winter to put on a front porch addition that included brick work and a complete re- roof on the entire house. I interviewed a previous customer, not on Rich's reference list. She was generally happy with the work. Because of some issues with her family she was not able to watch them closely. In the end she was fairly certain that she paid for some things twice. I hired Rich knowing that I needed to watch. We'll they did the roof on the upper part of the house. They had me go up to look a couple of adjacent bad sheets of plywood. I okayed the replacement. I noted that one of the roofers went to get some osb sheets and noted them return with the sheets in the truck. When they left at the end of the day, the same two sheets were in the truck. They had to disconnect the bathroom exhust vent through the roof so I wanted to make sur it had been reconnenected properly. I went up in the attic that evening and they reconnected the vent. I moved down between the trusses and discovered that the bad plywood sheets were not replaced. Same APA plywood stamps and dates as the rest and old rusty nails poking through with brand new nails. In addition, the plywood was bad enough that where the roofer stepped on the seam for the next sheet above, the plywood broke. So no support for the ice shield or shingles over 16ft between the trusses at the seam. When confronted with this information, Rich's roofing contractor boldface lied about replacing the plywood. Then I showed the pictures to him. I told Rich that I didn't want him back on the job. Rich told me he was the only roofer he had. All Rich did was make him replace the two bad sheets and re-roof that area. The mason was a good guy and the excavator was a good guy. The masons worked on and off over the winter under cover. In the spring there was a pile of cuts and debris as well as a large pile of dirt that had to be removed. About 10 yards. I wound up hand shoveling and hauling it out myself when HRH didn't return after being contacted several times. They were paid in full by that point. In 2020 we started seeing some water spots in our dining room ceiling. HRH sent a couple of guys out to look at the roof in that area. They laid in a heavy bead of roofing Tar in between the edge of the shingles and the side wall they butted to. The spots in the ceiling stopped growing, until 2022. I contacted Rich to let him know what was happening and the spots were growing again. I Sent him pictures so he could see how big they had grown from 2020. Rich said he had retired and offered to get me the names of some other roofing contractor's. Nothing else. We'll those contractor's weren't doing warranty work for Rich and wanted to be paid. So I let Rich know. And more nothing. I wound up paying $ 1,850.00 to another contractor to have them find out that no step flashing was installed when Rich did the roof and the roof shingles and ice blocker would have to be replaced in that area. The only negotiating was the price would be adjusted if they could save the shingles. None could be saved because of all the tar in the seam. I gave that information to Rich and he was basically saying not his problem because he was retired. Never said his son could do anything about it because be had taken over HRH contracting. So that's most of my story on a 50,000 project. Made all payments when milestones completed, on time, immediately on request. Even donated 11 sheets of 1/2in, 4ply plywood after Rich decided he was not going to give me credit for. I saved all documentation, pictures, voice mails, and texts.
