Vicki Ruff has a lot of experience with colors and her suggestions worked out very well for us, including Spanish Olive for the master bedroom, a golden mustard color for the foyer and hall, and Floral White for the trim. Working with an interior designer is a new experience for me and rather intimidating. I wasn't offended by any comments she had about my choice of furnishings, as I understand she is simply instructing me on what she'd do to improve a room. A designer like Vicki is invaluable for her ability to visualize how things will look (something I'm terrible at). Of course, I could choose to follow her suggestions or not. I thought a dramatic cider color for the dining room would be too dark, but it does help to have advice that's different from my usual pattern of thinking. I'm calling her again for advice on colors for two rooms that weren't painted, plus lamp selections, a new couch and a different arrangement for the living room.
Description of Work: My husband and I had just moved into our home, and I was feeling overwhelmed with the challenge of placing furniture and choosing paint colors for the crew scheduled to begin work. Vicki is willing to dive in and work with the furnishings we have, hauling furniture into new arrangements. She figured out that I like autumn colors, and suggested ones that I could consider for each room. Our house is dark because of the many trees surrounding the house, and she emphasized how we need to get more lighting into each room.

we were interested in interior design and exterior design help with paint selection. we received a lot more. Vicki helped us understand our color palette through interpreting items in our home. She provided extremely useful info on furniture location and staged our family room to demonstrate her suggestions. IT WAS A DRAMATIC IMPROVEMENT! She helped us think in a different way regarding flooring and window treatments in the room. Accessory suggestions for our foyer and her thoughts on television placement were excellent. We also received useful information on colors for our outside door and house trim. We are very pleased and will continue to use Vick

Vicki was asked to provide general guidance regarding the interior design of our new house. Our primary need for her assistance involved selecting tile, carpet, countertps, and paint colors. Over the course of 2 sessions she helped us clarify our ideas and make selections that complemented each other. We are extremely pleased with the results.

Vicki was very helpful in picking a palette to match the furniture and few accessories that I have. She is very good at choosing colors and making sure that they flow from room to room which is what a I most concerned with. She also gave me some tips on how to update my kitchen cabinets. I will be consulting her in the future for lamps, pictures and ideas on where to place them. Just need to finish painting first!

I never thought I could afford a designer until now. Vicki has a truly unique and helpful business model. She she met with me and my husband and reviewed our home and tastes. Then she supplied us with a fantastic list of items to furnish and decorate our home with. She has a great eye for color and picked out things I would never think of - it gave the look of our home an amazing transformation. She chose great furniture that worked with our budget and added color and character to our home. She went above and beyond for us when I had a party I was hosting at our place. She made the house look wonderful and took time out of her days off to help me prepare! Guests walking in said they needed a Vicki - I could not agree more! She is also fun to work with! I can't imagine what our house would have looked like without her!

We purchased her services through a Groupon. We asked for suggestions regarding furniture placement in a new room, and suggestions for window treatments in other rooms. She did not take time to ask us any questions about our styles or color preferences. She, instead, was quick to make statements such as this furniture will not work, or we should consider painting rooms (we just completed painting). Most of her suggestions were not related to our initial request, and her communication style was rather abrasive. She offered several times to take us furniture shopping. Once she realized we were not interested in that service, her interest in the consultation seemed to wane. She said she would followup with us regarding suggestions for tables and lamps. That followup did not happen. Although likely a successful interior designer, we did not have a successful experience with her.

Response from VICKI RUFF INTERIORS
This review is misleading and unfair: This client contacted me AFTER she painted her entire house and purchased new furniture. She is perturbed because upon asking my advice on how to improve the look of her home, I suggested new paint colors, not realizing she had just painted her entire house. I also explained that a chair she recently ordered (which had not arrived yet) did not work well with the other new furniture, and offered to contact the manager and help her exchange the order before it arrived. The letter grades are baseless and undeserved: • I arrived on time and stayed an additional hour at no charge which indicates I did not “lose interest.” • I was energetic, professional, and polite. • We discussed specific concerns, preferences, traffic flow, etc. at length. • I rearranged furniture, provided detailed floor plans for three rooms, and addressed every question with specific advice. • I did not pressure her to purchase or commit to future services. • I invited her to contact me if she ever needed further design assistance. • There was no request for me to follow up on anything. • I had an interior design intern with me; this client received 3 hours of very sound advice from two professionals at a promotional cost of $50. I have been a full-time professional designer for 15 years. This woman and her partner purchased a $50 coupon for an in-home design consultation, with no obligation to purchase furnishings or future services. A one-time general consultation like this would normally cost $150. Upon meeting, the women solicited input regarding a new addition which they had just furnished, because they felt it did not look “complete.” We discussed functionality, traffic flow, desired “look and feel,” etc. I rearranged the furniture and they were thrilled with how dramatically it improved the room. I suggested lamps, throw pillows and area rug to “finish” the room, and offered my services to help locate/select/provide these items. (All designers offer this service, and many people want it.) They said they would think about it, I did not pressure them in any way, and we moved on. They had ordered a chair which had not yet arrived, and in my professional opinion it did not coordinate with the other pieces they had just purchased. I felt they could easily exchange it since it had just been ordered and not delivered. This was clearly distressing to them, so I offered to call the store manager myself (who I know). I did not stand to benefit from this assistance in any way and was simply trying to help them. They said they would think about it. They then asked for general feedback on how to improve the overall appearance of the rest of the first floor. It was apparent from my professional perspective that the paint colors were not quite right, and there was no consistency or flow from one room to the next. (A consistent and well-coordinated color palette is key to any well-designed home.) I offered to select paint colors for each room on the first floor, and they responded, “WE JUST PAINTED THE ENTIRE HOUSE”…which I did not realize. They were clearly insulted and/or hurt after I had made this suggestion. I dropped the subject and we moved on. They took me to their basement to show me a full-size carousel horse that they wanted to showcase upstairs. It needed some repair, and I offered the name of an associate who has worked on carousel horses. We then moved to the dining/living room, and they asked for my advice on window treatments and a better room arrangement. They complained that the dining room was far too small to entertain dinner guests, and the living room was a wasted space filled with old furniture that no one ever uses. I suggested they swap rooms: Move the dining furniture into the larger living room space, and move a loveseat, chair, etc. to the smaller dining room to create cozy reading/sitting room. (I also included a perfect spot to showcase the carousel horse.) I provided exact furniture placement and offered to rearrange the furniture myself. They responded, “We are not ready for all that,” and said, “It is too overwhelming to think about right now.” I provided specific recommendations for window treatments and detailed drawings to hang them appropriately. I offered to show them window treatment samples and rearrange furniture, and they said they would think about it. I was there for three hours at no extra charge, gave them a lot of sound advice, I did not pressure them in any way, I thanked them for their time, and invited them to contact me if they needed future assistance.

Vicki was the best combination of and quot;direct but sensitiveand quot;, pointing out areas of improvement in color selection and room design while guiding me through the process of selecting colors. She heard our opinions, working with them without trying to change them. When she left I had a general color palette for our first floor, with some specific paint colors chosen. It was amazing to me how quickly she was able to zero in on the colors that would work best, based on the items we already had in our house (rugs, artwork, fabric). I could not have done this on my own. It was money well spent. After doing some initial painting based on her recommendations, I will call Vicki again to move onto next steps in painting, room design and decor, including fabric selection.
Description of Work: Vicki helped with an initial selection of paint colors for our home that we moved into last year.

I really can't say enough about my experience with Vicki! She is amazing!!! I just moved into a much bigger house, had NO furniture, came from a house with ALL white walls, because I was too afraid to try any colors. With my new house, I wanted to make it incredible. I saw a coupon for Vicki's services, and decided to try the $50 for 2-hour consultation. When I thought of interior decorators, I thought only rich people could afford them. I decided to use my 2-hour time and get the most out of it. More than 10 hours later with Vicki...it only cost me $50. It's really simple, either pay her for her time, or get your furniture, or services etc, where she suggests, and then THEY pay her. Too good to be true???? Nope! Even better! My house looks AMAZING. We went to the store picked out the colors and fabric that I liked, picked furniture, she then came to the house and picked out the colors for my walls to be painted, gave me the name of an incredible painter (Gary Roessel). Even gave me a floor plan. Everything! She has a great eye for color and style. Everytime anyone walks into my home, they always say,and quot;WOW!and quot; I even ordered a library unit from her, I can't wait until it comes in, she picked the perfect style and unit for my wall! Vicki as a person to work with... she is very pleasant and friendly. Prompt and courteous. She needs to know right off what you like and what your budget is so she can accommodate your needs. The more details the better with Vicki. It helps her to help you get that perfect home! She is very easy to talk to, she didn't put down my colors or ideas, but nicely pointed me in a better direction when my ideas got off track or wouldn't work. For example, after all my paint colors were picked, I told her I loved cherry wood furniture. She said that cherry wood has red tints in it, and wouldn't look the best with my colors, but she will help me choose different paint colors if that's what I wanted, or I could choose more of a chocolate, espresso wood color. She was right on. I kept my original paint colors, went espresso, and it looks perfect! I would definitlely use Vicki again, and recommend her to everybody!
Description of Work: Helped me picked out fabric then furniture, which led to what color to paint the walls. Then a floor plan! I went from white walls in my old house, to colors in my new home that I didn't like... to a now AMAZING HOME!!!!

I contracted Vicki to do a complete evaluation of my home so I could finally have truly expert advice on what to do within my budget and still reach my goals. She spent 2 hours here and, after asking me the right questions, proceeded to go room by room and provide suggestions in detail. By the time she left my only regret was that I had not used her before. Her expertise and professionalism were far more than I expected. Now I'm happily putting together my plans and will utilize Vicki's services for her ongoing suggestions and her professional connections to the right vendors to get everything done properly and at the right price.
Description of Work: Vicki provided a very thorough, detailed evaluation of what needs to be done to make significant changes to the interior of my home.

Overall dealing witlh her was a big mistake. However, she did arrange for blinds to be purchased and installed and this was OK.
Description of Work: This was the most unprofessional experience I have ever had. First she determined the amount of fabric we needed incorrectly and so we were left with four times as much fabric as was needed which we had to pay for. When I objected she sent a scathing and insulting letter. She did not return phone calls and was aggressively defensive. Five years later and I still have very angry feelings toward this eperience. Do not consider using her.

Response from VICKI RUFF INTERIORS
In 2006, this client hired me to provide custom valances for his kitchen window. We agreed on a specific style (the Pate-Meadows "Catherine" valance), and agreed to a price which included both fabric and labor by my seamstress. He gave me a deposit, I ordered the fabric, and gave it to my seamstress for fabrication. A few days later, his wife called and told me to hold off, because she wanted a different seamstress (whom her friend had recommended) to fabricate the treatment. She asked me to pick up the fabric from my seamstress and deliver it to her seamstress, which I did at no charge. A couple weeks later, she realized that her seamstress was more expensive than mine, and asked me to pick up the fabric from her seamstress and take it back to my seamstress, which again, I did at no charge. This was awkward and time-consuming, yet I did not complain, and continued to try and please the client. I then received a call from her husband, who was mad as a hornet that his window treatment was not completed. I explained that I had been carting the fabric back and forth between seamstresses per his wife's request, and that my seamstress had just received the fabric back. He called my seamstress, yelled at her, and told her that the treatment "had better be done within a week or she would be in big trouble." My seamstress said she was afraid of him, and wanted nothing to do with him or the job. He then asked me if he could just purchase the fabric from me, and said that he would take responsibility to have the treatment fabricated elsewhere on his own. I agreed and gave him the fabric. I sent him an invoice for the fabric only. (I did not charge him for any of my design time, for carting the fabric around, or visits to his home). I then received a letter from him that he would not pay for any of the fabric because the valance had been made, there was leftover fabric, and I had obviously ordered too much fabric for the job. He threatened to contact an attorney if I tried to collect the money for the fabric. I went to his home to look at the treatment, which was nothing like the Pate-Meadows "Catherine" valance we had initially agreed to. The treatment was hanging on his kitchen window with the fabric I had purchased, but the style was much "skimpier" and clearly required less fabric than the "Catherine" valance, which was why he had leftover fabric. I explained this to him, and sent him a copy of the Pate-Meadows "Catherine" pattern, which clearly indicated that I had ordered the correct amount of fabric for the "Catherine" valance we had initially agreed to. (I did not send him a "scathing" letter.) He then contacted me to ask if he could return the leftover fabric for a refund, however, fabric manufacturers do not accept returns of fabric that has been cut. I received a check for the full amount a few days later, which indicated that he realized I had ordered the correct amount of fabric, and that none of this was my fault. I did everything the client asked of me, spent many weeks working on this project (going to his home, selecting fabric, dealing with two seamstresses, carting fabric back and forth, etc.) and maintained a professional attitude throughout the entire process. While I agree that this situation was challenging, I have no idea why this man decided to file this report six years later, or why at this point he is blaming me for the course of events that caused it to be challenging.
