Dave the owner came by for the estimate and seemed very nice and professional. He said and did all the right things so I hired him. It took a week longer to get the tree work started but I was fine with it because his tree crew was very good and kept me updated on their progress. There were 6 very large pines that needed to be carefully taken down because my neighbors house was very close. The job took 1-1/2 days longer than Dave expected but I didn't mind because the crew was excellent. They made easy work with the commercial stump grinder or so it seemed. I'm not sure if the crew realized, but as they grinded the stumps the wheels of the machine rode up the pile and the cutter didn't go as deep as I was told. The crew left the piles of wood chips on top of each of the stump locations. It wasn't until I removed all the woodchips (several yards) that I saw that 5 of the 6 large stumps weren't ground all the way and I wouldn't be able to finish off the area and plant grass seed. I dug and cut out 1 of the stumps that seemed the easiest to get out and it was too much work for me. My neighbor had a tree guy with a smaller grinder working in his yard and I asked him how much to grind the remainder of the stumps above ground 6" below ground and was told $400. if it was $200 I probably would have done it but decided to call Dave to come back and grind the parts he missed. I've left 3 messages over the past month for Dave and he still hasn't called me back which I think is terrible customer service. He at least owes me the courtesy of a return call. Bob

The crew (three men) arrived on time. Worked diligently throughout the day and did the job as well as cleaned up nicely. However, when it came time to pay, I presented the ad in the local paper that attracted me to L.I. Lumberjack in the first place that offered a 20% discount for all winter jobs with no payment required until March. The foreman called "Dave", the owner, who had already quoted me $1,600.00 for the job, which I had accepted as the cost of the job. I had no reason to think otherwise. When presented with the "20% off" ad for all winter jobs, Dave claimed that the 20% was already in the cost of $1,600.00. That the job was actually $1,900.00. No other figure had ever been discussed between myself and the owner at any time regarding this job. (Besides, if $1,900 was the original price, 20% off would have represented $380.00 and the net cost would have been $1,520.00.) This is typical bait and switch, or flat out deception if you want to call a spade a spade. My mistake for not getting a written proposal, but it didn't seem necessary as Dave came off as a straight shooter. I have been a small business owner my entire working career. Rarely do I write reviews unless they are flattering, as I know it's easy to do and can be disproportionately detrimental towards someone's business and be quite costly. (One of my businesses was the restaurant industry...enough said). So this is done reluctantly. Understand, the work and the workers performed well. Hard working young men. My intent was to use as much of the 20% discount offered as I could afford to tip them for their efforts. I also had discussed with them future tree trimming between my property and my neighbor's, as well as replacing two trees we lost to a snow storm a few years back. They acknowledged that's what they do and we looked forward to the spring when I would initiate the work. After having the owner make an eleventh hour claim about the ad being built into the quote, without ever once mentioning it, I paid the full $1,600.00. Thanked the crew. Let them know that their boss now had their gratuity. And, in good conscience, I could not do business with their boss again, so the work planned for the spring would go to another company. We are a tight community where I live and I shared my experience with another 30 houses or so. Just so they should be aware. I do the same here. Buyer beware...and get it in writing.
Description of Work: I had overgrown brush, bramble and various shrubs. Designed by nature not landscaped as I reside on waterfront so sand only supports mostly brush. I decided after years of growth to have it cleared and then I will either let it return naturally or maybe help it along...but just a little.

I strongly recommend that you do NOT use this company. We hired Long Island Lumberjacks to take down three large trees, clear cut our entire backyard and grind down all stumps for $3,000 and signed a contract with Angelo. This job was supposed to take 1 day. On the first day of the job one of the machines broke and the workers spent most of the afternoon fixing it, leading to the job being unfinished. We were completely understanding and had no problem with them coming back the following day (while leaving a huge mess, a large truck, and all of their machines in our backyard). The following day, a Saturday, the job was still unfinished and they had to come again on Sunday (we had previous commitments on Sunday, so we were unable to be home. Due to that we paid cash in full on Saturday including a generous tip for each worker). When we arrived home on Sunday our backyard was a mess. Water and energy drink bottles everywhere, empty bottles of gasoline, 7 stumps around the yard remaining ungrinded, our entire wood curb broken and pieces thrown all over our front yard, and a giant pile of lawn debris left. In addition, a large portion of our yard was not clear cut and two pipes that were "borrowed" from me in an attempt to fix their machine were both left completely broken in the yard. I called Angelo and (when he finally returned my calls) he apologized and promised to be back the following Saturday. He never showed up, nor did he the following Saturday after more promises and apologies from both Angelo and Dave the owner. Most of our calls went unanswered. Finally, after being blown off twice, Dave the owner promised to do the job himself Monday morning before 11 so that we could get a fence installed. Yet again, no show, calls unanswered, until finally we got in touch with a secretary. Angelo (not Dave as promised) showed up at 11:30 Monday morning (we had to postpone our fence) to finally grind the remaining stumps. We were still left with a giant pile of lawn debris, cleaning up their disgusting mess, a broken and unsalvagable curb and pipes, and the headache of waiting 3 weeks for a project that was supposed to take 1 day and therefore pushing back other work we wanted done. Do NOT use this unprofessional company, unless you want a giant headache.

GREAT SERVICE
Description of Work: Took down a lot of branches (LOTS) all over the property. Left nothing overhanging the home or anything that could fall on the home. We walked the entire 1/2 acre together tree by tree and discussed what needed to be done. Fair price. They came on day agreed upon - full crew and lots of machinery. Did a spectacular job - cleaned up every spec of sawdust. Would surely use next fall again.

In 11/2012, I hired Long Island Lumberjack to cut ten trees for $2400. Had a signed contract with the amount and the number of trees to be cut. Gary the foreman took care of the business end of the transaction. They arrived, cut down 4 trees, and at 3pm, they came over to me and told me they would not be able to finish that day. Gary asked if he could come back in the Spring 2013 to finish up the job for the amount, and also asked if he could leave 2 of the cut up trees in the backyard, and told me that he would take care of the others, bringing it to 12 trees for $2400. I agreed to this, and updated the contract, then both of us signed it. I called them in Spring, and was given many excuses as to why they couldn't come, and this went on for several months. Finally, in August of 2013, Gary came and brought a crew. While the crew was working, Dave, the owner, came out and proceeded to argue with Gary. Dave left, and Gary told the crew to stop working, and that they were leaving. Gary told me that Dave thought that he was losing money with this job. I re-iterated that we had a signed contract, but they still packed up and left. in essence, I paid $1200 for 4 trees to be taken down, and 2 of them remained, which is not even half the job. We went back and forth for the next couple months, but we could never come to an agreement. They didn't come to take the 2 trees that they left. I would advise anyone wanting to use this company not to, and I believe that Dave is a crook.

Positives; David Cion (owner?) was quick to provide an estimate for the work following my request. Once the job began, the crew worked quickly and efficiently to complete the job. The final product was exactly as I originally envisioned, if not slightly better. Negatives; Job was repeatedly rescheduled due to weather. However, when good stretches of weather were available, work continued to be postponed. I imagine that larger projects took precedent over my job. David requested additional money following the 1st day of work. More debris (concrete, trash, an old rowboat) was encountered during the clearing activities than he initially expected. Additional money requested did only amount to $90.
Description of Work: Cleared a 40 X 100-ft parcel of land of all weeds, brush, small trees and debris, removed (1) large oak tree and dilapidated fencing surrounding the lot as well as graded/leveled the lot. Upon hire, a 10% deposit was requested .
