The second day and third day wee dedicated to stenciling the walls, staining the molding to match existing wood color in the room. Cris and I kept in constant communication regarding the status of the job as well as any decisions that needed to be made. It was a pleasure to work with them. The end result was beautiful and the client was very pleased.
Description of Work: The provider was hired to seal, coat and paint a room in a home that was being redesigned. Two of the walls would be receiving a stenciling treatment. They were also adding a small molding at the top of the walls to ceiling.

I paid for the $99 special as advertised on Angie's List. I sent in 3 available dates. Several weeks later I got an email telling me he was very busy because of the special. He told what supplies to buy. I asked some questions. I gave some new available dates. And that was the last I heard. $99 down the drain

Response from York Deco
Hello Angie's List member, You're not providing accurate information. I emailed you on Mar 5 and you emailed me back on Mar 13th, on that same day I answered your email. You didn't reply back at all. I offered all of my assistance to make the work possible but I didn't hear back from you. And I honestly don’t understand why would you spend the effort and time in writing such a review without contacting us to complete the work on a coupon you have already purchased. Once I contact a member and I don’t hear back from, I don't chase them for an answer because I assume they're either too busy or not ready have the work done. You could've emailed again as other members do and I would've contacted you within 24 hrs and the work would’ve been done by now. Also, you have misrepresented the type of work coupon you purchased. The category is Ceramic Tile or Handymen, not Interior Painting or Plastering. Below I’m including the email thread for your reference and for the record. Chris -- from: Chris Escala to: Angie’s List member email date: Wed, Mar 5, 2014 at 9:55 PM Hi Angie’s List member, I'm Cris form York Deco. Firstly I'm apologizing for taking long to respond. We've been very busy trying to cover work, daily projects and office/communication. We are committed to provide excellent service as an Angie's List service provider. I'm contacting you, to know more abut the work you're looking to have done. We are currently very busy completing work for AList customers who bought deals 1-2 months ago. I'd like to know if you have any availability for: Fri 3/7 after 12pm or the week of 3/10 FYI-About the Deal What the deal is about? The deal covers only labor up to 3 hrs. It doesn't include any materials like grout, caulking, etc. If you live in a building that requests insurance documents we require a nominal fee of $XX for insurance submission and any other documentation related to building managers. Regarding the work itself, we'd like to know if this is for 1) wall tiles or floor tiles. 2) approx. grout space (space between tiles) and the approx. area 3) shower, bathroom or kitchen Materials? 1) do you have the grout? 2) if you don't have it, please acquire it. Here's a tip for about the type of grout you'd need For grout lines 1/8" or bigger use Sanded grout For 1/8" (about size of a toothpick) or smaller spaces non sanded Also it's very important to know if you want us to - do the work for the 3 hrs only or - if you'd like us to complete the work even if it takes more than 3 hrs. After the 3 hrs time we'll charge regular rate. At your convenience let me know the info requested above, and about the proposed dates. I'm also responding via the AList message center due to protocol/policy. And because I'm only able to answer from a computer and very late at night or the next day depending on how busy I am. It's best if you email me to info@yorkdeco.com as this works better in my smartphone gmail. Thank you and I look forward to hear from you. Best Regards, Chris O. 347 983 0309 yorkdeco@gmail.com Client info: On March 13: Hi Chris, I have 3 bathrooms that need new grout. My priority is a small bathroom that needs the area around the tub to be re caulked. The floor grout is dirty and needs to be replaced. A few a the wall tiles need grout, not many. The tiles are large with large spaces between them. The grout is white. I would like the main bathroom finished. How do I calculate the hours needed to do/finish the job? I have never had work done without an estimate before this. In the past I have had grout work done only for new tiles and the contractor always handled everything. I would like all 3 bathrooms done, depending on the cost. The other 2 bathrooms are larger and have small tiles on the floor. A few tiles are loose. Do I have to get someone to cement them in before you come? Where do I buy the grout? How much do I get? Can you get the grout and I pay you? I can be available almost any afternoon but Wednesday if I have enough advance notice. At this time t am available in the afternoons on Monday, March 24, Tuesday, March 25, Thursday, March 27 and Friday, March 28. Best wishes, Angie’s List member I emailed you back on the same day and I didn’t hear back from you at all On March 13 to Angie’s List member email Hi Angie’s List member Thank you for responding to my email. In my opinion, the best way to do this is to check the work in person then provide you an estimate with a total price for all the bathrooms, including fixing the loose tiles, and deduct the 3 hours work from the total. The estimate will include materials and labor this way you won't have to worry about handling anything. I have a few days available to meet with you: Tuesday after 10am or Thursday after 12pm. Please let me know if either of these days work for you. If not we will work out another date that is more convenient. Best Regards, Cris Escala

I emailed the company and asked if there was any prep that I needed to do before the work. They seemed to be cordial and helpful. I decided that I did not need the service and ended up having the deal refunded.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for three hours of grout and caulking restoration.
A bit delayed on both our parts. Very workers. They did the trim and didn't protect the floor.

My rating for punctuality is generous. It takes into account Chris and his helper did the job on a day that it snowed. They arrived about an hour late, but did call to say they were on the way. Chris also arrived somewhat late for the estimate. Chris and his helper were pleasant, and Chris was accommodating when I changed my mind about the method of hanging the curtain. Overall, the quality of the work was adequate, but did not quite merit an A. There were some small problems. The plate holding my door lock became loose within a week after the lock was replaced. This should not have happened. It was upsetting, because I worried about my security, but I managed to fix this myself. One of the snap catchers on my bottom kitchen cabinets that was replaced became loose after less than a week of use, causing that door to be permanently open and therefore a hazard. Chris agreed to come back to fix it, but I did not need to take him up on it, because one of my relatives fixed it in the meantime. The door was old and the snap catcher needed some kind of support before it was installed. I would use this company again and in fact requested a quote for the painting of my living room over the summer (including moving furniture and many small items). Chris agreed, but somehow I never received the estimate. Similarly, Chris arrived within a week after I asked for the original estimate for the work that was done in February in order to see what I needed done. But I had to ask for the estimate more than once, also because there was a tight deadline for the work. However, the work was done within the deadline, which was really important.
Description of Work: A variety of small jobs including installing 4 grab bars in the bathroom, installing a new shower head, changing a door lock, installing a curtain rod, installing new snap catchers on kitchen cabinet doors, etc. The work took approximately a day to complete.
